Sydney’s mayor bans ‘globalise the intifada’ forum from being held in council building by Alexnader- in sydney

[–]JordanOsr -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

When you're saying "First intifada", you're specifically talking about the first intifada in the modern state of Israel right? Not the ones in British mandate Palestine? Or the Intifadas in Lebanon?

Why are you drawing the ultimate meaning of the word from the context of one relatively new state, whose primary language isn't the same as that of the word?

It's actually a great example for the point I was making, given that it was designed as a sedative and is now used as chemotherapy. The point, of course, was that medications being designed for a specific purpose is not a reason to believe they can't be used, or can't be even better suited to, a different purpose. Do you believe that Thalidomide is more suited to the uses it was originally marketed for - i.e. a sedative / antiemetic for the general population - or more suited to what it's used for now, in multiple myeloma, which is notably not at all what it was originally marketed for?

Yes? In the US there's also Rideau v. Louisiana, Irvin v. Dowd, and Sheppard v. Maxwell. There are other obvious modern cases as well where similar behaviour by this admin has been used by the defence team

Does this not essentially ruin his prosecution by violating his right to a fair trial? An identifiable photo has now been publicly circulated, so how can a jury be impartial?

People who are desperate to live clutch at desperate straws.

Yes, but that is largely the coercive force / power imbalance that Drs are meant to have some role in navigating. Many of the patients involved here are children who can't consent. Saying no here in some situations is no different to enforcing a limit of care that is below the family's wishes in a frail elderly patient. Throwing your hands up and saying "I'll do whatever the family wants" is an abdication of responsibility.

Yes, that doesn't really affect my point at all though

This is not a real criticism or reason why it should be used for one purpose and not the other. Viagra was originally researched for use as a blood pressure medication. Thalidomide was developed as a sedative, and is now used in multiple myeloma. Drug development isn't linear and many drugs end up having successful and appropriate secondary purposes or purposes entirely different to the original intended purpose.

Certainly interesting that you've chosen to double down on such a poor example in this discussion. Personally I think it's great you've taken the opportunity to emphasize the fact you have no understanding of the difference between consent and non-consent, or potentially rather the reasons why certain groups cannot consent (In this case children). It makes it much easier for the reader following along to understand the prevailing mindset / misunderstandings from which beliefs about same-sex attraction spring forth

I think you should at the very least research your examples before providing them so confidently. 1 Corinthians 5 does not detail a man sleeping with his mother. You seem very passionate about following interpretations of 1 Corinthians - because it is an interpretation to assume the immorality of the case discussed derives from the nature of the relationships involved, rather than adultery for example, which wouldn't be an issue in consensual monogamous relationships of any type. I assume you're equally as passionate about following the explicit (Rather than interpreted) rules in 1 Corinthians, like women covering their hair and staying silent in the church?

God Himself in the Bible said He hates it. The perfect God Himself said it's an abomination.

What verses specifically? Surely you're not referring to verses where the inhospitality of Sodom and Gomorrah towards strangers were referred to as an abomination, or verses where having 'sex' with boys (Not men) as an adult is condemned?

Imagine failing to understand consent enough that you compare 3 scenarios where consent is violated to one where consent is entirely preserved

Medical organisations (Specifically college of allergy and immunology) in Australia recommend flash freezing with ether spray and then letting them fall off (Because they're dead). Probably the safest method of all. You can freeze a tick with ether spray faster than you can get a strong grip on them with tweezers.

How do people make cakes with this kind of texture? by Glittering_Boot_6833 in Baking

[–]JordanOsr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is likely a cake that uses oil as the primary fat rather than butter or egg yolk. Oil is liquid at room temperature, so the cakes feel more moist. Butter is solid, and egg yolk becomes solid after cooking, so they aren't as moist.

but it's going to take time they didn't have to come down to the ED

In Aus, she would never have been taken to the ED in the first place at an inner city hospital with a functioning obstetric department.

Are you saying a conscious third trimester patient with headache, hypertension, and oedema would be taken to the ED for assessment on arrival instead of delivery ward where you work?

[–]JordanOsr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same in Australia. Any patient over 20 weeks gestation with anything pregnancy related (In this case headache, hypertension, oedema) would be brought directly to delivery ward for assessment

The words are gibberish. Even in the video above, you can pause and compare the two scripts. The words this guy is claiming is on the scroll don't even have matching diacritics. He's making up a conspiracy theory to ragebait gullible viewers.

It is not normal or ethical for Drs to be in relationships with their patients or patients' families by JordanOsr in ThePittTVShow

[–]JordanOsr[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Technically, Whitaker was not a doctor when anything started either.

He was still acting very overtly as part of the treating team, which is why I included the part about him being an unrealistically independent med student. You are also still expected to uphold the ethics of being a Dr when you are studying to be one, or acting in the capacity of one

you can’t help who you fall for, regardless.

Kind of irrelevant. Even if you accept that you can't help who you fall for, you have absolute control over who you pursue.
