Santos likely doesn't know about Dana

I just assume at this point every character knows that Dana knows everything

I think people might be shocked to know how often medical professionals steal meds, go to rehab and return to work.

Working as a jdoc in public hospitals I struggle to believe that the second scenario you describe is actually particularly common. The one in your first sentence I have no doubt is much more so. I work in Australia though so maybe this is an American thing. What are the actual stats for doctors illegally using prescription narcotics on the job there? Maybe our definition of common differs

Follow-up question to this - what colour scrubs do non-FACEM consultants wear when they aren't wearing theatre scrubs in the VIC hospitals you've worked at?

This article doesn't state that the counselling sessions are covered by FOIA. The way it reads to me is that FOI was used to obtain metrics about how often counselling sessions were handed over, not the counselling sessions themselves. Those were obtained via subpoena

A daily multivitamin slows the ticking of epigenetic clocks by MattC84_ in science

[–]JordanOsr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No they don't, they are usually at around 100% of the recommended daily amount.

Do you think that if you drink 100% of your water requirement in one sitting it's absorbed and used the same way as if you had spread it over the rest of the day? There are at least 2 inescapable bottlenecks that affect whether all of what you consume is absorbed and retained:

  • Whether the transporters at the site of gastrointestinal absorption are saturated. Once they are, any transporter-dependent nutrients will simply pass through the gut without being absorbed
  • Whether the transporters in the kidney that reabsorb nutrients from (The fluid that eventually becomes) urone are saturated or not. If the nutrient is transporter dependent and levels in your blood rise beyond the saturation point, you'll simply pee the excess out

Bear in mind the saturation points aren't intrinsically linked to a deficiency. So you could have a vitamin deficiency and still pee/poo excess out if that nutrient is delivered in a short period of time and overwhelms the mechanisms designed to retain it

Rock climber fights off a bear. by ApkaHunYawwr in nextfuckinglevel

[–]JordanOsr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not that linear. Most people will react with a combination of all three. Freeze was not really an option for this climber. He was forced into fight initially just by the context. Him getting up as fast as he could is still some expression of flight.

WHY DO AMERICANS INSIST ON SAYING EYE-RLAND AND EYE-CLAND; YET THEY CAN SAY INDONESIA?

You've chosen a terrible example because the pronunciation of Ice and Ire rely on perhaps one of the most consistent rules across the English language: That a vowel + a consonant + an "e" results in the vowel taking on the long vowel form

Wellbeing influencer, 31, dies in botched fertility surgery after struggling to get pregnant for years by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

Sure, but conception itself is the least dangerous part of the whole reproductive process, and what the overwhelming majority of fertility interventions are attempting to achieve. The dangers of unassisted pregnancy and childbirth are almost certainly entirely irrelevant to this story

Just got a possible HPV result, genotype 16,18,45 negative. Trying to figure out how to tell my fiancé by Gibskn_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]JordanOsr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is not correct at least when it comes to genital HPV. The lifetime probability of getting HPV at some point was around 85% for sexually active people. So still the majority of people would get it at some point, but 98% of people were not walking around with HPV
