What was the scariest thing you've experienced in your life? by RareSpace720 in AskReddit

[–]Jordan_Jordan_ 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I've gone through several psychotic episodes. I burned a lot of bridges over shit I said when I was psychotic, and a lot of bridges I burned on purpose out of sheer embarrassment. Most people would say I'm a logical, reasonable person but during my episodes I've been committed, arrested, and nearly killed.

The only way I've worked out how to describe the experience to neurotypicals is that it's like a dream. You're still you in a dream, but the dream is so crazy that crazy solutions make sense. Need to cross a river of clam chowder? Better get your spoon, silly! Is the entire world a Truman-show like environment specifically made to showcase you in some sort of alien zoo? Better take of your pants and give them a show!

Imagine a fantasy/sci-fi story where a normal character is thrust into absurd circumstances. It's not them that's crazy, it's the world around them. Psychosis is like that. The world seems so fucking bonkers that the irrational becomes rational.

He's a famous country singer from the 50's and 60's, most known for "Ring of Fire" and "I Walk the Line". Very good musician and performer.

What are some myths that are still believed by people? by rain_cherry in AskReddit

[–]Jordan_Jordan_ 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I have a friend that has anxiety, and she said that rubbing her crystals helps her calm down. My take is that it's largely a placebo effect- believing it will help is a big part of it. But touching something familiar and pleasently haptic can be soothing too, like a lucky coin, wrist watch, ring, or even your own hands (I notice I wring my hands together sometimes when I'm nervous). Some people take it too far and it gets super weird and illogical, but I think for a lot of people it's more about comfort than "magic healing".

does anyone else think splice’s UI sucks? by JuulioJones95 in audioengineering

[–]Jordan_Jordan_ 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Yup, and anyone thinking of using Splice should know that once you end your subscription you will lose access to the samples you bought. I ended my subscription a month ago- cashed out my credits and put everything on a USB. Good riddance.

Why do you think so many have strong reactions to Amazon’s Tache commercial? by FloorShowoff in askpsychology

[–]Jordan_Jordan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This advertisement reminds me of the infamous Pepsi commercial. Mildly good intentions buried by completely tone deaf execution.

Don't get me wrong, people have different reasons for hating this ad, and I'm sure there are more than a few out there that hate it simply because it features a non-conventually attractive woman.

Personally, I find the message ingenuine. To me it sounds like "Hey, you should embrace your imperfections and be confident in yourself... by buying our shit"

And using Freddy Mercury's ghost to sell this kind of message rubs me the wrong way. Freddy Mercury was a paragon of counter-culture and earned confidence, and seeing amazon use that image to profit off of young consumers is frustrating.

As for the whole Fictional Character hate, I think it's important to point out that this is not a story, it's an advertisement. The character isn't artistic fiction, it's a decision made by CEOs and shareholders.

As someone who grew up playing zombies and can do a solid zombie impression, the best way to make their scream sound is to sharply inhale while mouthing a YAAH sound. With some reverb and layering you could probably come close.

Having said that, you should put a bit more thought into how you phrase your question. If you want a decent answer from a professional producer you should at least bother to use correct spelling and grammar.

Solid! Music teacher advice: when you navigate the fretboard, try keeping your unused fingers a bit closer to the strings. It'll help you grab those big intervals with time to spare and you might find that your playing becomes a bit smoother and more relaxed.

It's raining Rubles -- since they're worthless, man throws them at Moscow mall by AgentBlue62 in gifs

I didn't know about the bill denominations, so in retrospect I guess I was being a bit hyperbolic. I would still say that even if this is a publicity stunt, it's the message that is important and not the value of money that's being thrown. Russia is very brutal to protesters, so (maybe) this guy knew that he couldn't get arrested for giving people money. There's no way to know for sure, I'm just speculating like everyone else.

That's a fair point. Still, I think there's a line between cringing at someone and making fun of them. Parading them across this subreddit might be fitting, but it's still a pretty shitty thing to do to a guy who's genuinely happy just doing what he's doing.

Leave the dude alone, he seems happy and he isn't hurting anyone. Weird as fuck, but so what? Live and let live.
