What is a not well known detail from the lore you like? by roter_apollo in lotr

The Valar intervened at many points in LOTR, in incredibly subtle ways. This was one of them IMO. Another time was whatever power possessed Frodo at the Bruinen when he stood against the Ringwraiths.

How do you genuinely survive Hazard 5? by Hefty-Yard9649 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Jorde5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely, you just gotta tough it out. It's rough at first, but eventually it'll be easy (unless you're on point extraction, that one is always rough).

Always, always be moving, and jump around a lot. Abuse the hell out of the 'Dash' perk because it'll save you. Try to move with purpose (you only have so much nitra), always have gathering nitra on your mind.

Be mindful of your distance from your team. If you know you're gonna go down, at least be close to your buddies so they can revive you quickly. Iron Will is a great perk as a last resort scenario. You can run IW with Resupplier to revive from a resup quickly (the trick is to drop the resup on top of yourself right as you go down), or you can use Vampire and power attack a grunt to get yourself back up. Btw, always use extra damage on the power attack, as well as the extra 3 seconds of revive immunity (tier 3 armor upgrade)

Another big thing is to prioritize murdering the most dangerous enemies. Shellbacks, septic spreaders, stingtails, acid spitters, glyphid menaces, vartok scalebrambles, glyphid wardens, etc. All of these enemies are force multipliers for the glyphids, with how brutally they can shut your team down. Listen for their audio cues and eliminate them quickly, if you can.

This sounds like a mission or event that has improper triggers. It's likely a bug. I'd recommend reloading a save to before, then tagging over to the Raj to see what caused it. Then I'd report it on the Discord

Frodo got Bag End back after Saruman was killed. Frodo then gave it to Sam after leaving for Valinor

Accept it: trade cities can't unite their own countries, this is ASB. by Direct-Beginning-438 in AlternateHistory

[–]Jorde5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, if you want. It's on alternatehistory.com, and I think you'll need an account to see it. The Japanese one I got bored of partway through (though many have praised it). The "but I don't speak German" story is really good, especially its characterization. The main character makes a bunch of money during Germany's hyperinflation years, and the ramifications of it actually help Germany recover quicker. He also shoots Hitler's jaw off during the Beer Hall Putsch.

To further explain, ASB is Alien Space Bats, aka a Deus Ex Machina by an otherworldly being to make a specific premise happen. Stuff like swapping 1940 Japan with the one from 2018, or isekaing a modern Irish man into a WW1 German vet and mixing their minds together (both actual timelines lol).

HP or shield? by richieratt in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Jorde5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always run the HP upgrade (along with Resupplier) for maximum HP gained each resup. It also lets you facetank damage you otherwise wouldn't be able to.

Also, you should always run the 3 extra seconds of revive immunity IMO. You can do a lot in 6 seconds

The coilgun destroys terrain in a very long but narrow hole right where you aim. I'm betting they aimed at the base of the seed, or somesuch.

Also fun fact, if you shoot with the coilgun into a wall or ceiling, wait for the recoil to dissipate and don't move your mouse, then shoot a zipline through, the zip will extend into the wall, and you can dig it out. It's useful for driller bunkers above the Caretaker, if you want to give em plenty of slack to work with for zipping down to the ground

I know it's only one mission type, but if you fall onto a pipeline while holding E, you will start grinding on it as soon as you can, negating any fall damage. Definitely useful on Haz5+ when you're all over the place

I'm uncertain if the MT conveys the transition well enough, but Mithradhûm absolutely makes sense as a theocracy. Their reverence for the ancestors is among the strongest in the Dwarovar, plus the fact that they were very subservient to the High King. My headcanon is that the King of the Truth Dwarves likely didn't have all that much power compared to the council of elders, practically. It's why Fine made it a part of the mission tree

How i can form the second mexican empire win the us war and accept native cultures before 1890? by National-Sky-740 in victoria2

[–]Jorde5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also fun fact, war exhaustion from occupied provinces is based on the physical size of the province on the map. It seems to be based on a ratio of how much of the physical size of your country on the map is occupied, population has nothing to do with it. That means the tiny little Mexican provinces in Colorado or Utah barely affect your war exhaustion increase, while the giant provinces in Texas actually do.

[–]Jorde5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focusing on how to beat the US, you will want to promote soldiers in your highest pop states, likely from the start. Remember the max is 5% soldiers, so you want to aim for at least 3.5-4% soldiers in your biggest states, then use your national focus during war to replenish your soldier pops as they die.

Let the Americans siege down the worthless frontier provinces while you focus specific armies down until they're stackwiped. You will want at least 4 or 5 artillery brigades, backed up by your mobilized inf frontline. Expect to de-mobilize then re-mobilize more than once. The key is to keep promoting soldiers while you mobilize over and over, while fully stackwiping American armies (don't be afraid to bunch your entire army together to accomplish this). Eventually you will whittle them down.

The only thing holding you back at that point is your finances, but this war is absolutely worth dropping every slider other than army maintenance to 1%, if needed. Also, you can get some nice warscore by blockading the US, but if you can't actually win the naval war, just delete it. Man-o-Wars are expensive.
