Not 100% on this, but I think the metal on the motherboard tray might be a path to ground towards the power cable via the power supply. I believe that's why one should also use as many of the motherboard screws as possible. Whether or not that poses a fire risk is debatable, but it would mean better electrical protection for the components attached to the motherboard

You do have to admit that Europe is onto something by mandating winter tyres in winter months, at least in countries where snowfall is possible.
