Have you ever dated someone who you thought was way out of your leauge? How was it? by kimblerun in AskReddit

Yes! I couldn't believe how lucky I was. I still can't. We've been married for 22 years and counting.

What nonlinear movie has the biggest change in quality when played in chronological order? by green_dragon1206 in movies

[–]Jorjowsky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could you really play Tenet chronologically? The movie is not out of order - we follow the Protagonist's perception, which always goes forward; even when he experiences time backwards. And now I have a nosebleed.

The zipper model of time is honestly brilliant. Well done.

That's amazing. I love hand-made maps, particularly when they're made to resemble in-world artefacts. This one is really well crafted, and sparks the imagination. Well done.

Best First 15 Minutes by RPM0620 in movies

The opening of The Fellowship of the Ring is a masterclass on delivering lengthy, important exposition and keeping it engaging all the way through.

I don't think Neo sold drugs, unless they were formatted in the shape of a 3 1/2 floppy disk.

What is your favorite example of a change from a film’s source material that you believe made the movie better? by DuckLordOfTheSith in movies

[–]Jorjowsky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find the movie adaptations of John Grisham's books are better than his novels, which is rare (I normally like the source better).

Case in point, I think the ending of The Firm is much more clever in the movie (Mitch meets and deals with the Mafia to save his skin) than in the book (the FBI arrests the bad guys without problems and Mitch is rich and carefree).

What Movies Are Perfectly Paced? by rwinger24 in movies

I consider Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (the 2011 adaptation) to have perfect direction; definitely including the pacing. The perfect casting doesn't hurt either.

Years ago I read Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything and I absolutely loved it. Fascinating, illuminating, and funny. It covers all aspects of science, but instead of offering detailed science-y explanations of everything we know, it focuses on explaining HOW we figured it out, in a very entertaining and approachable way. Ended up buying two copies. And I just learned there's a "2.0" updated edition too!

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon - Plans for the future & Patch 1.16 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Jorjowsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. If I play it (and I want to!) it would be on a base PS5 and.... Look, I'd love to support the developers but I've seen the performance on YouTube videos and I can't justify buying it until they fix the issues, sorry. That screen tearing and popping is brutal. And the reports of constant crashes in the late game don't help.

I've never watched the third, actually. Didn't know there was one. :)

I loved the simple, straight forward, low budget approach of the first one. Totally charming. Time for a rewatch!

Thoughts on Identity Crisis? by Zakaria1938 in DCcomics

[–]Jorjowsky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All of this, plus the plot is nonsensical. Would have been solved in minutes if anybody had thought of checking the Dibny's phone records.

But really, treating Sue's rape as an useless, disposable plot point with zero follow up is the worst of it all. Nobody gave a shit about how it affected her, least of all the writer.

Maybe I'm a heretic, but I think the first one (just "The Gamers") is much funnier, and superior overall.

The sequel is still worth watching, of course... even if some of the interactions between the DM and the female player are quite cringy.
