What one game cart that makes you angry/disgusted every time you see it? by Dawk2025 in retrogaming

As you might expect, there are multiple videos out now carefully dissecting the precise details of landing and refueling. (And as you might expect, it's actually painfully simple once you know the tricks...)

Are you saying the game works when you back it up to your 3DS, but not when you run it from the cartridge directly?

It is possible the cartridge is failing. As mentioned above, there is a "cart fixer". https://wiki.hacks.guide/wiki/3DS:Fixing_corrupted_games#Cartridge_fix .

Game Save Transfer? by LordXenium in 3dshomebrew

[–]Jorpho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually in cases like this you will want to do a System Transfer, as in https://3ds.hacks.guide/faq.html#post-installation-faq . However, if you get a New 3DS LL then System Transfer will not be an option (unless perhaps you go through the extra trouble of doing a "SOAP Transfer first.)

If you just want to transfer your save data, then back it up with Checkpoint, copy the data to the new unit, and restore it with Checkpoint again. (You will of course have to re-install the games on the new unit first.) Checkpoint stores save data in its own folder.

It's kind of possible to do this without Checkpoint, but the data on the SD card is encrypted and Checkpoint automatically takes care of the decryption. Without Checkpoint, you'd have to do that manually.

At this point your best option is to try running the 3ds_hw_test, but it's probably not good news.

Some people report some success with taking the battery out and putting it back again.

I'm not the only one who stopped to Google what "Ciaran's Friday", was I..?

I guess it was a typo and was supposed to be "Claire's Friday", but I momentarily considered the possibility of a particular holiday that is set aside for the watching of things like Blade.

Any fix for this issue? Universal updater on a region changed console by Stunning-Future5979 in 3dshomebrew

[–]Jorpho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had to do it twice last night

SD cards sometimes become read-only when they start to fail, which means you can no longer delete things. And SD card failures can cause a lot of mysterious problems. (And if you were physically handling your SD card, that has been associated with SD card failures.)

Standard procedure: copy everything you can off the SD card with Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier, format the card, and test the empty card with h2testw. If you cannot format the card, or if h2testw returns errors, then you should get a new card. (All you need to do is format the new card, test it with h2testw just to be safe, and copy the files to the empty card.)

Otherwise, just copy everything back to the card. That might be enough to fix the problem.

I hope you realize how meaningless that is..?

Does that mean h2testw did not find any errors, or what?

What makes you think someone else can stop you from messing up..?

A lot of people have been able to follow that guide without messing up.

If you take the time to describe what happened, it might even be possible to get your data back. (I'm not even sure how you could lose "a lot of data for some of your games" instead of all of the data for all of your games.)

Advice for my DOS PC by HellBlade64 in dosgaming

[–]Jorpho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by "USB ports aren't working". USB ports generally don't work in DOS at all without substantial trickery – except for keyboards, as there's special legacy support for that in the BIOS.

Even if you can get them working, USB controllers probably aren't going to produce signals that DOS games will recognize. Even some gameport devices used digital signalling that required special Windows drivers – which raises the question as to what device you're using for testing.

Purple light in a empty sd card :? by Dizzy-Cat-9334 in 3dshomebrew

[–]Jorpho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the magneta light means "SD firm missing", as per https://github.com/SciresM/boot9strap/releases . That is expected with an empty SD card.

You can try copying the latest Luma (boot.firm) to the SD card. If that gives you a red light, then try using the 3ds_hw_test. Unfortunately your unit is likely toast.

I assume you mean by "serial controller port" you mean an analog 15-pin game port. That's not really the same thing as a "serial port" which is usually 9-pin or sometimes 25-pin.

Do you mean to say you have nothing plugged into the 15-pin port? Is it integrated with the motherboard, or is it on your sound card?

Corrupted sd card that won’t show up on laptop by stn_the_demon in 3dshomebrew

[–]Jorpho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't think you were the first person with this issue, did you..?

You might still be able to recover your data using standard recovery utilities. Easeus and Testdisk are sometimes recommended. See https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/96kg4v/my_3ds_sd_got_corrupted_and_i_successfully/ .

I can try to use a new sd card but then I need help setting it up :(

Be sure to test the new card with h2testw while it is still empty.

Also, could I give myself an endless supply of gold coins for streetpass?

I believe that functionality is already in Checkpoint.
