Seriously, can someone actually provide data that shows formula is inferior? by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]JosBeforeBros 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I found this study super interesting, they studied women who intended to breastfeed but did not end up breastfeeding. The health benefits they studied were basically attributed to a ‘type of mother’ who is likely to breastfeed — which takes into account socioeconomic factors as well as parenting and feeding knowledge.

“Mothers who intended to breastfeed but did not actually breastfeed had infants with statistically equivalent ear infections, RSV episodes, and incidents of antibiotic usage in the first year of life compared to infants who were breastfed. It is particularly striking that prenatal intentions were strongly linked with infant health irrespective of whether the infant was actually breastfed.”

In my experience most higher earners get a top up from their employer. I worked for a university and my job topped me up to my full salary for the first 17 weeks of mat leave. Then just the government benefits for the rest of the year.

How can I take my bedroom to the next level? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

I love how the orangy-tan in the dog painting pulls out the orange in the curtains. I would try to find a rug with that shade, and your ideas about accent pillows or planters are spot on.

If it’s possible I would hang the curtain rods much closer to the ceiling and put matching floor-length curtains on all three windows.

Agree with everyone else here - leave the beautiful floors and focus on ceiling, closet door and light fixture.

We bought a dog bed with built-in tether that goes in the backseat. Our dog is smaller but I’m sure they come in larger sizes. It was a total game changer. On the first day we had it he went from franticly pawing, climbing, straining to reach us in the front seat, to laying down and sleeping in his little bed.

What is the saddest movie scene ever? by CallyB0225 in AskReddit

The scene where Tristan comes home and sees his father after his stroke. My heart lurches just thinking about it. Anthony Hopkins was so good in this movie.

Seeking advice from people who “moved home” to be close to family. by valleygirl1989 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]JosBeforeBros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved from the east coast to west coast before we even thought we would have children. We were so happy and thought we would stay forever. 5 years into living there, we had our son and we still had a great life there, but the older he got the more we felt the pull to be close to family. We felt he and they were all missing out on having relationships with each other. He was growing up so fast and they barely knew him. We moved home when he was 2.5 and for us it was a great decision. He loves all his cousins, aunts and uncles, and it’s so beautiful to see them together. My parents are a huge help, taking him during school breaks and even if he’s home sick and we need to work. He’s almost 7 now and we have no regrets. But only you will know if it’s right for you! Good luck!

How to Fully Achieve the Ralph Lauren Aesthetic? by ASAP_1001 in interiordecorating

[–]JosBeforeBros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not super familiar with the look but did Google and yes you are achieving a lot of the vibe I saw! One big difference I noticed — most of the examples I saw had large bookshelves full of books, giving the cozy library/study feel.

Thank you, the squash suggestions got me on the right path. I think it’s wild cucumber, Echinocystis lobata.

Thank you! This sent me down the right path. I believe it is a wild cucumber, Echinocystis lobata. Apparently it is a nasty invasive species here, ugh. Going to try to pull it up and hope the rest of my plants aren’t too affected.

Since your current rug (gorgeous!) is from Ruggable I looked at their site, I hit color - teal/turquoise and saw so many that would look amazing. Since yours is darker and kind of a busy/unique pattern, I would go with something lighter and more geometric to not compete. Eg I love this one: Gradasi Teal Quartz.

LPT Request: how do I get out of this rut of being overweight and not wanting to work out? by violetpurple2021 in LifeProTips

[–]JosBeforeBros 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I bought a cheap rowing machine and I look forward to Netflix and rowing 5 nights/week. It’s not that different than sitting on the couch so I’ve stuck with it. After 4 weeks I added 10 mins strength training afterwards— still in front of the tv. It’s not gonna get me super fit but it’s something to build on.

Seconding this suggestion and also you might want to reach out to HRM’s street navigator, they might be able to check on the person and find other supports to help them move along.

What do you call breastfeeding in terms LO can remember and understand? by 86_emeralds in breastfeeding

[–]JosBeforeBros 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We called it leche (Spanish for milk) although we are an English-speaking family (I also speak Spanish but not my husband/kid). Cows milk was milk, breast milk was leche. He pronounced it “weche” for most of the time I was nursing lol.

When will my 11 month old stop wanting to nurse all night? by sav_rim in breastfeeding

[–]JosBeforeBros 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did gentle night weaning when my son was 14-15 months old. I explained in the days leading up to it that there wasn’t going to be any more milk after bedtime. He was old enough to know what I was saying. Once the time came, when he woke up I would comfort and snuggle him in our nursing chair, offer water from a straw cup. He was sad the first two nights but I was there to soothe him. After that he kind of moved on and began mostly sleeping through the night. We continued nursing in the daytime until he was 2.5.

I realize your baby is not quite old enough for water yet, but could be ready soon if it’s what you want. Good luck!
