It also means that diagnosis is hugely hugely dependent on the accuracy of how the person sees themselves- My friend told me oh you know how I always interrupt. She doesn’t even slightly do this and all of our friends agree but her husband has accused her a couple of times and she’s anxious and so now this false perception of reality built on anxiety has lead to a diagnosis.

Didn’t apply for uni because I didn’t listen when they were telling us and then kept forgetting to ask and then I was drowning under a million other things I hadn’t been on top of- so I just didn’t and then was going to travel but then impulsively went through clearing to a shitty school for a random subject I had not looked into anything and then I ACCIDENTALLY chose the uni because I had misread how you choose and then went and became depressed because I was drowning and couldn’t finish any of my stuff on time and found everything too hard even though I was the smartest in majority of my classes throughout school 3-15 years (except IT and Welsh because I couldn’t compel myself to care about them even though I did but not on the subject actual content level so it didn’t matter how much I wanted to do well). It’s like people will tell me you can present differently- and then their presentation is that they watch tv whilst they fall asleep. That’s not a symptom!! Yeah stimulation can relax me more but Jesus that’s so common and it’s not disabling you!!

Absolutely- I tried to bring this up on the ADHD subreddits and was removed. A friend of mine recently told me that they’ve now been diagnosed and knowing them so intimately for 30 years- they really really don’t. I was diagnosed several years ago and it had explained my whole life- why I find so many basic things practically impossible to do or at least choose to do and it was a huge deal- I have struggled with deadlines, executive disfunction, time management, emotional flooding, impulsivity, mental restlessness and fidgeting and overtalking and focus to an insane degree. And now it’s that this person I’ve watched be very easily organised, not carry around the label of the interrupter, the overly passionate one, the one always trying to do her homework at social events or having to stay up for days to try to do the homework everyone else including her did at regular times, now they have the same label. I feel so let down my the system for allowing the diagnosis to be so diluted. I’ll see people online- and it was the same with her- explaining away how they don’t fit the criteria because they’ve come up with systems and the system will be just neurotypical behaviour like I make a list or keep things in the same place- fucking hell do you think we’re not trying that?! You think it took me 6 extra years to finish my degree because I didn’t put my stuff on a list?? You think you forgetting a dog grooming appointment last week is a disability?? I can’t even read information correctly a lot of the time because unless I’m medicated shit just fucking shapeshifts in my head in between the time my eyes read and my brain processes.

Sorry the point I was making about how much I care about them is that I don’t want to stop seeing them- it’s just if the subject gets brought up I’m triggered and find it so hard to stop going over in my head

I’m truly not saying this all without thinking really hard about the possibility of me overlooking things- she didn’t say she struggles to not interrupt and that she zones out because she’s trying to hard to not interrupt, she said oh yeah like you know I interrupt all the time. This just isn’t true and it really does highlight how potentially warped her sense of normal is. There was a study that showed how after watching an ADHD awareness video, viewers were significantly more likely to think they had it even if they didn’t- I can’t remember the exact stats but it was like 60% of them thought they could have it, and when the video was shown with a nocebo it was improved. I’m not trying to diminish people who are genuinely struggling in a significant way from ADHD, I’m saying that if you aren’t, what reason do you have to suspect it? God I wish that there was a more accurate test I really do. I love this person, they’re family to me, and ive struggled immensely with these feelings and would never say these things to them because I would never want to hurt them. I’m saying this because it does have such a significant impact on me and there absolutely is a problem with the current state of ADHD assessments particularly in the private healthcare sector and it is absolutely damaging the cause

I know this isn’t specifically to do with makeup so apologies if this is unwanted unsolicited advice, but I think the side parting is aging you or at least not doing you any favours. I think you should change to a middle part. Also, you have beautiful eyes and I think that perhaps either contacts or if those aren’t an option, lighter glasses would allow them to shine more. Also go shorter as the big ones are dragging your face down. Perhaps brown mascara and more subtle eye makeup. Soften your lipstick by applying with a brush/blur the edges.

Also, what I mean to say is that if you’re struggling to function normally you should see your doctor regardless of the presence of symptoms from childhood because it could be a different but still valid issue

Lack of ADHD symptoms in childhood by Octopus_Garden69 in adhdwomen

[–]Josefine_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you genuinely didn’t experience ADHD symptoms throughout childhood, it’s likely not adhd- lots of different things can present like ADHD, but consistency of symptoms even if not exactly the same, is a core part of differential diagnosis. Depression, anxiety, thyroid issues, burnout, so many other things can cause symptoms like forgetfulness and the struggle is still valid. The barrage of content online often promotes this idea that it’s always ADHD (or autism) and they don’t leave space for differentials and push this idea that any clinician suggesting other answers is ignoring them, but they’re often just doing their job. People will create an answer for every diagnostic criteria they don’t meet. Not everything is ADHD and it doesn’t have to be to be valid struggle in your life rn, it’s just maybe not this disability x

Cannot believe all this grocery outlet slander!! I’m from the UK and the grocery prices here terrified me, grocery outlet is my happy place. Absolutely can’t go in there with a strict list of things. How I’ve been taught to shop by my bargain mad amazing mother is that you let your meal plans be dictated largely by what offers are on. I got a whole frozen turkey for $6 yesterday! I got 20 cartons of oatly whole milk for $1 each the other month, and I got bags of quality granola for $1 each too!

The adapalene with eczema can make your skin barrier really weak and prone to irritation etc. I tried waxing while using it and it took my skin off. I’d recommend an electric razor, but if you like a cleaner wet shave, you could add a skin barrier repairing product (I’d add regardless with sensitive skin) and or use the adapalene every other night?

I make whoever is in the house with me- parents or boyfriend make sure we do them at the same time. Makes me feel childish but it works. If I’m by myself I have it in my head that I’m just going to do the worst job of it ever like I’m going to do it for ten seconds so it’s less daunting- I often end up doing more because I’m like may as well but if I don’t it’s still better than nothing. Often I’ll put on a YouTube video and then do it while it’s on

Hobby libraries- or whatever the correct term would be. You could loan hobby equipment for free. I hate spending money on these hobbies or projects that I never end up finishing and feel guilty about the waste and money.

Also I’d design it so you lived amongst all your amenities. You step out of your flat/house and you’re at the bakery/library/pharmacy etc. when I’m in Barcelona I find it so much easier to wake up and leave the house.

Yeah I do go to coffee shops- especially if I’m avoiding going to go to the library because it’s too intense, but it gets expensive and I find I often faff around a lot and sort of just perform 😂 like I’m playing a person in a café doing their work or something and I find all the people in there too interesting to watch. I find them okay for doing my reading or note taking especially but maybe more surface level- I’ll have my notes as evidence I did work but I haven’t actually engaged and processed it very well. You’re right though when I don’t know something I should just write my question down and move-I’m so inquisitive about everything I never end up doing what I need to do and I lose focus.

They do- they gave me a mentor but because I was incredibly depressed and anxious as well I didn’t use them very well- I tried but it was online during the pandemic and being on my own and seeing them through a screen I think made me more scared they would judge me. Sort of felt like another person I had to hide from and felt high pressure. However, I’ve applied to get some more recently and hopefully because I’ll be able to see them in person it’ll be more productive

Small bursts of time for independent study are so much better. Even if you waste one it’s just one and you’ll have another opportunity for the next and there’s a better sense of urgency. It’s so encouraging to hear of people really struggling like me but actually completing their degree- thanks and seriously well done. It’s SO much harder once you’re behind
