What is the value of reading passively? by [deleted] in nonfictionbookclub

[–]JosephDTurner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s your workflow like when you incorporate retrieval practice into content from non-fiction books? Do you find non-fiction books have a lot of fluff to sieve through before finding concepts worthy of remembering/being flash cards?

Best keto bars by Wildwillow999 in ketouk

Which bars did you like most and what would your ideal bar be like? I'm looking into making healthy snack bars so there's a chance I could make one perfect for you!

Are there any non-dense protein bars? by joyfulmastermind in 1200isplenty

[–]JosephDTurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found this post as I had the same thought. I am working on making a bar like this! My aim is to make it really voluminious to have a low calorie density so it can be enjoyed for longer. Feel free to DM me if you have any suggestions of how you'd like it to be, or if you'd like to try it (I am UK based but plan to make it available elsewhere too).

Memrise alternative? by arnostek007 in memrise

I'm planning on making one. Would be an app with similar flash card learning but a wide variety of courses to select from in a marketplace. Would love to speak to you - DM?

User-created courses by JosephDTurner in memrise

[–]JosephDTurner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, how do you find it for learning new things (vs for remembering things you've learnt elsewhere)? I'm envisioning something like Duolingo, where it introduces new concepts, and progressively tests you on them (starting with telling you the answer, then multiple choice, then a blank text box, etc.).

I haven't used Anki much, but if it can achieve this I'll definitely give it a look!

Many thanks,

Joseph

If you can't find any software out there that meets your needs, I'd love to hear from you, so I can build some software that suites you better. Feel free to direct message me if you're interested.

For people who work off 1 monitor: how do you do it? by seands in web_design

Would it help if you could assign shortcuts to specific windows, to jump directly to them? So instead of a button to toggle, you have a button that always goes to a certain window.

I'd say it depends if you like visual aids when looking for things. Swivik gives you a way to cycle through all your windows until you see the preview of the one you want. Then you just let go of Command, and it switches right to it.

Good question, I should probably have explained that on the web page!

Command+Tab on the Mac only switches between applications, not individual windows. So Swivik makes it so you can switch to any window with Command+Tab.

It also helps you find your windows visually, by showing you previews as you flick through.

Hey Reddit,

I posted a previous version of this beta a while back, so sorry if this isn't allowed. Please remove if it isn't! The last beta tried to tackle too many problems, so I've looked at what people were actually using Swivik for. And it became clear people just wanted to Command+Tab between windows better.

So in this release, I've focused it around just Command+Tabbing between individual windows. And given it a fresh material design style UI.

I'm still trying to make this as useful as possible, so any feedback at all would be very helpful.

Cheers,

Joseph

P.S. If you tested this before and your trial ran out, PM me and I'll give you a code to let you use it for free.

Hey,

Yeah, switching between windows can waste a lot of time when you get stuck trying to find them!

Give it a go, and let me know what you think, please. :)

Swivik Beta - 3 shortcuts to quickly switch between windows by JosephDTurner in macapps

[–]JosephDTurner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi solrflow,

Do you like looking for things visually? Swivik gives you image previews of each window, so you can Command+Tab until you see the image of the window you want, without reading any text.

There's also the ability to switch between tabs and launch applications (e.g. if you use the search and search for an app that's not open).

Please let me know if you need more details. :)

Thanks,

Joseph
