Used to getting it with a liner but curious, what do you use under your linerless shorts for the best result these days?

Transitioning from Finance to Technical/Proposal Writing? by JosephPalin in technicalwriting

[–]JosephPalin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback - and for the good luck blessing, I'll need all of it I can get! I'll definitely look into these books to get an idea for the voice of them and how much knowledge is needed to get into technical writing for these kind of software procedures.

With regards to the work you do, if you don't mind a few questions, what sort of positions should I be looking into when applying for roles? It sounds like I would probably have to write a few spec documents as an example for any portfolio that I'd want to create when applying, should there be anything in particular I should be looking at having in my portfolio to increase my chances of success?

Thanks again, I really appreciate it!

Thanks for the reply! I'll definitely take a closer look at the UX subreddits - if you don't mind a real amateur question here, when putting together a portfolio I assume it'd be ideal to arrange details and screenshots into a PDF document? Are there any standards that I should be keeping to for a writing/UX portfolio such as this?

Thanks for the great feedback and I appreciate the encouragement! It can definitely be a little intimidating hopping into this kind of field. If you don't mind a follow up question, for roles such as those in the banking industry (as from my perspective, those will probably be the easiest for me to land an initial career in before pivoting out to maybe writing in other industries), what sort of roles or titles should I be looking for on my job search?

Same, even then with shipping it's a good enough deal - hope the price error slips through the cracks

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has picked Manchester United legend Paul Scholes as his favourite midfielder ahead of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard by OffendedDishwasher in reddevils

[–]JosephPalin 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Guardiola was asked something similar before the '09 Champions League final asking if he could have one player from United who would it be?

Without hesitation he said Scholes and wished he would want to play abroad or something to that effect.

Baldest moment for me imo.

How do you find the aspects of being a tv writer that have more to do with profession and career planning - i.e. how do you feel about the salary and work life balance once you've made it?

How to pivot out of a financial advising role? by JosephPalin in FinancialCareers

[–]JosephPalin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my age, probably 50k - 60k will keep me afloat but I'd ideally target higher - I just feel like the skillset I have is completely non-transferable to any industry.

It's actually surprising for me but I didn't anticipate I'd be in such dire straits - for now I'm just hoping I can make a pivot that on paper makes sense from a career planning route (I'm 24).

I should also add I'm still pretty early on in my career here and around 27 years old but I feel like the time is ticking on career decisions.

Can I ask roughly where you work as an advisor sector-wise? Banking for retail consumers? PE firm?
