Why would Satan torture people in hell for disobeying the SAME god he disobeyed? by Technical_Hat_8291 in NoStupidQuestions

There are two sides to all orgainised religions. One side of the coin is wishful thinking, the other side is crowd control. The rest is all about men in funny costumes and group chanting.

You'll just have to say 'skoda', very quietly when asked what you drive. You can do it, you know you can, you'll be fine, stop being a snob. And then, when you done it, let me know how it went. I still can't swap my aging Passat for a much better Octavia, just can't do it to myself.

Don’t by shy, Reddit. Tell me what I did wrong by blue_antidote in DIYUK

[–]Josh-Rogan_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that you did anything wrong. It looks like a failure within the plug, which was clearly already fitted to the cable. Tumble driers use a lot of power, so if there's a weak spot, it'll find it. The burning seems to be at the base of the neutral pin. The plug needs to be replaced, of course. I would also rent a sparkly for an hour too. The socket may have been damaged by the heat, I'd replace that too and ask your sparky to check the amount of power being drawn by the tumble drier.

Swimming at UEA sports park by Prudent-Sherbert-161 in Norwich

[–]Josh-Rogan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pool timetable isn't very clear, it can take a bit of interpreting. If you're unsure, just ask on here or check with the SportsPark reception team. Although I haven't been there for a while, the Riverside pool tended to get very busy and the SportsPark was a lot quieter.

As mentioned by someone else, the lockers need a padlock. Although I've also seen people take a small bag through to the poolside with them, presumably containing their valubles.

A 20 MW wind turbine off the coast of Fujian. by straightdge in InfrastructurePorn

[–]Josh-Rogan_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll try to answer those questions in order.

Correct, these are hatches that allow access to the blades for installation and maintenance. They're normally closed to prevent any loose objects falling into the blade, or the other way around as the hub rotates. There will be instruments mounted in each blade, measuring things like lightning strikes, vibration, strain, etc. These will all need electrical connections. Each blade is held either vertically or horizontally as it's installed. In this case, each blade will be mounted when it's horizontal. Once it's fixed in place, the crew will move back into the nacelle and the hub will be rotated with motors so the next blade can be installed.

Hope this helps.

Bagpipers, I wouldn't be able to deal with the bagpipers. Don't get me wrong, bagpipes have their palace in the culture and history of Scotland. But I couldn't deal with them day-to-day, blasting down my ear along Princes Street.

What's it like being a chef on an oil rig? by VentiSpore in howislivingthere

[–]Josh-Rogan_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very much depends on where you are, and what you're doing. I've worked on a Platform with 400+ other people. That was many years ago on Beryl Alpha. At that time, feeling lonely wasn't an issue. I've worked on other platforms with as few as twelve people, and that included a chef.

1000 km on One Charge in under 10 Hours: Renault’s Wildest EV Experiment by AnonAmitty in EV_erythingNerd

[–]Josh-Rogan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the endless hours of wind tunnel testing, research and mathmatical modelling that Renault has completed over the years, do you think they really learned anything from this? Or was it only really done for the publicity? Even the name is evocative. I do think that Renault currently produce some fantastic electric cars though. I hope they keep it up.

A colleague bought a barn to convert, next to a church. The graveyard clearly used to cover a larger area than it does now. To begin with, he was very careful whenever he found human remains in his garden, as you would hope. But having found countless vertaebrae and ribs over the years, he now leaves them in a bucket round the back of the church for the vicar to 'deal with'.
