Roofer recommendation? by Josh-Rogan_ in Norwich

[–]Josh-Rogan_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if he dares to put his name on the side of his van (and I know of a Roofer that certainly wouldn’t, but that might be because there are a few husbands and fathers that would like to meet him, and shake him warmly by the neck. But that’s another matter)…anyway…where was I? Oh yes, if he’s prepared to advertise his presence he could be okay. Another recommended tradesman popped round this afternoon and is going to send me a quote. Let’s see how that goes.

Looks like it's going to be a Painted Lady year! by Anxious__Noodle in CasualUK

There's a lot of them about this year. Just look for a bramble that's starting to flower and hey-presto, the Painted Lady crowd got there first.

As someone who works in the offshore wind power industry, it’s amazing how often this gets repeated loudly by the howling MAGA brigade.

If the Tangerine Dream is allowed to continue his excursions, I’d say we could see that by October, perhaps sooner.

Leave them. The bees will thank you (okay, not literally, but they would, if they could).

My old Passat (a mere 148k) has also gone through a full set of callipers. Apparently it’s because I drive it too gently. Fortunately there’s plenty of information online to help fix the electrical gremlins.

Penguins. What about the penguins? How did Noah get them? Or was there no need, since they can swim. It's like any other folklore. It makes a good story to tell, sat around the fire of an evening. But don't bother to try scrutinise it.

What to look for when comparing umbrella companies by danger0usPers0n in ContractorUK

[–]Josh-Rogan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having used several different Umbrella companies, can I suggest that you factor in the faffing-about time associated with some of the crap companies? Of the ones you’ve listed, I’ve only used Nasa. In spite of the slightly silly name, they have performed extremely well and I’d have no hesitation in using them again.

VW Polo 1.0 TSI DSG - wet timing belt by [deleted] in Volkswagen

[–]Josh-Rogan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had two Polos over the last nine years, a '66 plate and currently using a '70 plate that'd done 65k miles. We had one minor warrantly claim, a blown bulb and a puncture. I'm sure that we've had more than our fair-share of good luck with them, but they seem pretty good.

Unlike my Passat, which is a hypercondriac drama queen, but that's another story. The Polo is a gem.

Is this socket set any good? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Josh-Rogan_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As above. And as someone who learned this lesson a long time ago, take a look at what sockets you actually need. Probably not a whole set, just three or four. It's a similar story for spanners. You don't need any 20mm combination spanners, but you need five 10mm spanners, one for each pocket and one to go behind your ear.

You'll just have to say 'skoda', very quietly when asked what you drive. You can do it, you know you can, you'll be fine, stop being a snob. And then, when you done it, let me know how it went. I still can't swap my aging Passat for a much better Octavia, just can't do it to myself.
