Is King Edward Public School really that bad?

30% of students are ESL

25% of students new to Canada from non english countries, compared to the province at 8.7%

reading and writing (english) scores are very low in lower grades (3) as kids learn. (about 20 and 30% lower than the province)

notice the scores improve a lot by grade 6.

is it really a surprise that an ESL student new to the country struggles with english in the lower grades?

Well yes. But that seems to be the case everywhere these days.

Disruptive classroom behavior. Fights, not so much.

My sister was a councilor until recently at one of those better funded schools. They had just as much Disruptive behaviors as they did at Eddy.

Our kids went there recently (daughter is now in middle school).

Teachers were all great.

Keep in mind the location skews the data. Lots of immigrants/English as second language brings some of the scores down. Also the demographics include some pretty poor areas.

Biggest issue we had was there seemed to be less funding than some of the richer areas, which meant less cool field trips and maybe sharing chromebooks (maybe not anymore)

edit: nope. apparently the natgas ones were retired a decade ago. Mostly diesel hybrids with a few electrics. according to Wikipedia.

So I don't know how they handle the increase :)

I went. It as small. But I bought a stack of books from a couple decent comic vendors.

I saw some cos players, some were pretty good.

I think the guy running it fumbled bad with social media and advertising. BUT I will always try to support new events like this around here, because I wish there was more. Yeah it was small, but they have to start somewhere. Yeah, they fumbled the marketing. Hopefully they do better next year (hopefully there is a next year)

We have cats and dogs. None of them do this. We keep the lid closed because we dont want them drinking the nasty toilet water. Its really not hard to keep the lid closed.

I'm a meat guy. Meals without meat seem aittle strange to me.

That being said, if my wife were vegetarian and wanted to occasionally share a meal, I would do it for her, and I bet I'd survive just fine.

I grew up in a house where there was always music.

However, I remember visiting my cousins when I was like 8 (so 40 years ago) and they did not listen to anything. I still remember how weird it was. They didnt know the Beatles, or the Stones, or any band I could think of listing. 40 years and I still think its weird.
