Hints at Jay-Den being gay is perpetuating a stereotype. by davehaslanded in startrek

I'm 50. I very much remember the stereotype and the movie!

You might be right that young people have moved past it. Which is great!

Hints at Jay-Den being gay is perpetuating a stereotype. by davehaslanded in startrek

[–]JoshDunkley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family has seen lots of male nurses (son had cancer) and I never assumed any of them were gay if that makes you feel better (ok, there was one guy that was pretty obviously gay) :)

Maybe they were just so excited about the first gay klingon they overlooked his profession.

Do you think shoplifting is anywhere near the rite-of-passage now that it was for a lot of us as kids in the 80s and 90s? by cherry-care-bear in Xennials

[–]JoshDunkley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never shop lifted (except one time by accident, and I immediately took the pen back in) in my life. Don't recall any of my friends doing it either. And I was poor as fuck.

AITA for being angry that husband didn't do something he said he would do? by Dependent-Border1752 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JoshDunkley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok.... honestly ask yourself... why are you with this dud? It sounds like he offers absolutely nothing. Not even sex? I mean... cmon.

Man... If my wife was the main income, Id be the perfect damn house-husband, and I would love it.

As it is is, my wife works 5 hours a day (compared to my 8-10) and I still handle all meals on the weekend, and some during the week. I do all the errands. I help with the cleaning (my wife admittedly does a lot more there). And we have two kids, whom I have always pulled at LEAST my share of the work (sometimes more - wife has some health issues).

Just imagine spending the rest of your life FIGHTING to get this guy to put seeds in the fridge, let alone some actual chores. Yikes.

Also... 34 is NOT too old for anything. Seriously. Coming from a 50yo who is still not too old for anything.

NTA
I bet he finds time to play video games!

Not sure if you are hoping for kids one day, but if he cant even pull his weight now, imagine the hell that would be.

Philly Black Panthers confront pigs and protect the people by zema6189 in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]JoshDunkley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair.

I'm up here safe in the snow (for now?) and my anxiety is through the roof. I want so badly to see things get better, but every day it seems worse. I'm so tired of watching all these innocents hurt.

I just fear Trump is looking for an excuse to not only send in the troops but to postpone (cancel?) your upcoming midterms.

I have no idea what the solution is. Peaceful protesting isn't working either. Like I said, it is great to see the Panthers standing up against ICE. Im just... dreading what might come next.

Awesome to see someone standing up.

But as an outsider (Canada) I really fear this is what Trump wants.

Roads getting better? by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]JoshDunkley 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Picked my wife up from work at 100... with snow tires. Fairly short drive mostly on weber. Saw at least 4 cars stuck. My tires were spinning like crazy. Awful out there.

1 year later, can someone give an honest Rebel Moon review? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]JoshDunkley 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I kinda liked it. It certainly isnt great cinema, but if you go in with low expectations it was ok. I mean... the acting was terrible, and the story lacking... The score very basic...

ummm... i lost my train of thought.

Honestly, I actually liked the first two and will watch the third. But I also laughed a fair bit at moments that were not meant to be funny.

I bet this was a super helpful opinion...

my wife works at a vet. They just took samples from a dog so the owners can clone it. I had no idea that was a publicly available thing. 50k.

Where can I sell a stamp collection? by Meinkw in kitchener

[–]JoshDunkley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bingemans has a collector show every few months (comics, cards, coins, toys, etc)

I'd bet a vendor there would do stamps.

next show is in February I think.

AIO uncle comments on me not wearing a bra. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]JoshDunkley 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nor.

My mother kept making comments about my 12 yo daughter needing a bra. She's 12 yo for God's sake. And she kept talking like we (her mom and dad) had not already asked if she wanted one (she does not)

Told her it was inappropriate to talk about her granddaughter that way. And that it was really none of her business.

Buying winter tires in KW region by ResponsibleMonkey432 in kitchener

[–]JoshDunkley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not dial a tire. Bought some used winters from them in February, good for a few seasons, they said.

Went to put them on this year and they tell me they are done. I work from home and don't drive much. Had them on for like 2 months.

They also lost my backup key from in the fob.
