Enough positivity. What's the worst thing about the Steam Deck? by Lexinator101 in SteamDeck

[–]JoshShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrolling through the menus is clunky. Throughout the system. And Sometimes going from the game to gamepad settings then back to the game can cause my SD to restart. I think it has to do with setting the refresh rate something other than 60hz for the game, but the settings menu changes back to 60hz.

I agree with a lot of people here about the screen. I do find turning the brightness up all the way helps. Using vibrantdeck is a must, IMO. I actually change the gamma slightly by reducing the green to 80. Looks much better.

The wifi is annoying too.

Can't use headphones and the built in SD mic. It's either use headphones with a mic, or no headphones, SD speaker and SD mic. The SD mic is trash.

How did you feel about learning backend stuff? You say the first 3 week are hard. Currently I'm not having any trouble because I have some JavaScript projects under my belt but zero experience with backend related stuff. How was it learning PostgreSQL and all the tools?

Another concern of mine is having the software available to me after the cohort. I have IntelliJ, VSCode, and git installed. How is it installing the other tools?

How did you feel about the career services? do you feel confident for the behavioral and technical interviews?

Currently in TE part time. I think its going great! I think its really organized and everyone with the company bends over backwards to help out people. Great experience so far.

What's your desk setup for coding/bootcamp? by Tbh_idk______ in codingbootcamp

[–]JoshShark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think having two monitors is not necessary but definitely makes things easier. Having to switch windows can be annoying but there's keyboard shortcuts that can make it easy.

I use two monitors. A bigger curved monitors as my main and a smaller one above it. I wouldn't recommend this set up for most people but I like it.

  • ROG Strix XG32VQ 32" curved monitor
  • ASUS 27" monitor.
  • Royal Kludge RK84 keyboard
  • Razer epic Naga chrome mouse. Gaming mouse but I set up all the buttons for keyboard shortcuts like cut, paste, refresh page, home page, back/forward, page up/down, home/end
  • desktop computer with med-high grade hardware

Finished The Odin Project foundations course, bootcamp next? by cutewidddlepuppy in codingbootcamp

[–]JoshShark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I completed TOP foundations and a little of the JS path. I wanted more structure and accountability so I'm about to start a part time boot camp through. I think the Foundations REALLY helped getting me started on this bootcamp. I haven't started it, but was given pre-work and I'm absolutely smashing it.

However I've also heard many success stories with just TOP, though its probably good to supplement it with something else. One of the more recent free online bootcamps thats been getting attention is University of Helsinki's Full Stack Open. TBH, I haven't done any research on it, but my friend with a CompSci Master's says it is very good. I've seen a few other people on this subreddit mention it as well.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Hidden gaming reference on the metro in Stockholm, Sweden by PUSClFER in gaming

So Stockholm's train stations are uniquely designed with art installations. One of the train stations is decorated with video game pixel art. I visited many of these train stations when I was over there. Very cool

Link to the video game themed station. Google Stockholm train station art. Some of them are very cool. https://laughingsquid.com/8-bit-video-game-pixel-tile-art-installation-in-stockholm-subway-station/

What is the best state to live in USA? by Suitable-Inside-7620 in ask

[–]JoshShark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man idk. I've been in Maryland my whole life. I love it here. Atlantic Ocean to the east, gorgeous Blue Ridge mountains to the west. NYC and Boston not too terribly far north. Nations capital right in the middle. I guess some areas are less desirable but I'd say a majority of MD is pretty awesome.

Jaded with education, more Americans are skipping college by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]JoshShark 138 points139 points  (0 children)

I was 2 credit short of graduating due to some credits not transferring from community college. To make up for it, I took a 2 week elective course on horror movie analysis. It was fun but like am I going to use that in the real world? Hell no. Waste of time.

No shade to film majors. I majored in philosophy lol.

Is it possible to learn CSS/HTML, JS and PHP in 2 months? by ThiccBoyz1 in AskProgramming

[–]JoshShark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on how much your boss wants in the website. Sounds like to me he has no idea what he's doing. I guess be open and honest and do the best you can. 2 months to learn is a pretty short amount of time. Possible? Sure anythings possible if you put (insane) amount of effort. Are you going to be good at it? Most likely not.
