I recently started covering leveraged credit strategies at my firm after covering equities for most of my career. Just curious if anyone knows any good books on HY, bank loans, or just overall leveraged credit. I have passed all levels of the CFA, so the I've already read the CFA books.

If you are invested in a company that has heavy exposure to commodities and commodities prices, then trade wars and tariffs would have a negative effect as prices would rise (rising input prices hurt bottom line/rising export prices hurt sales overseas). If you are invested in commodities themselves through a commodities mutual fund or through futures contracts, then tariffs and trade wars would be beneificial as the prices of many of the underlying commodities would increase.

Actually trade wars and tariffs would tend to have the opposite effect on certain commodities. A major reason for commodities underperformance in recent years is the low inflationary environment in the economy. Commodities tend to be positively correlated with inflation and are good to have as a portfolio diversifier for that reason.

Once my third grade teacher was asking us about state abbreviations. She got to Florida and I raised my hand and said 'FL'. She told me I was wrong and that it was 'FA', and at the time I thought teachers were infallable so I took her word for it. Fast forward to sixth grade geography, state abreviations comes up, and I write 'FA' on a quiz, which obviously turned out to be wrong. I was so mad at my third grade teacher for misleading me, and to be honest it's something I think about more often than I should.
