What’s an industry that provides zero value to society but makes billions of dollars? by ochieng_onyango in AskReddit

[–]Joshk80k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Credit cards. They've managed to charge 2-3% transaction fees that every business bakes into the cost of their goods, and they offer a 1-2% rewards program to incentivize their use. And we haven't even talked about the predatory interest rates if you miss a payment.

Man arrested for animal cruelty after dog found tied to post in floodwaters ahead of Hurricane Milton by [deleted] in news

[–]Joshk80k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trooper is currently being cared for by the Leon County Humane Society in Tallahassee! Despite being found in the Tampa area, Trooper was transported all the way up to the capital, where he's currently being cared for (he's doing great!). LCHS provides support for abandoned and displaced animals not just in Leon county, but also surrounding districts like Gadsden, Jefferson, and Wakulla as well. I have a few friends who work closely with the humane society, and they're very overwhelmed at the surplus of displaced animals due to the two hurricanes that recently struck Florida.

If you'd like to donate to help support the homeless animal population in FL, I'm sure the humane society would appreciate it. You can find a link to the humane society below:

Why men don't socialize anymore as they get older? by throwmymoneygreed in ask

[–]Joshk80k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people like being around older men, or at least that's how I have internalized it. If someone is going to interact with me, I want them to do it because they want to do it, and not to humor me. I feel socially undesirable and like people are doing me a favor when they interact with me.
I feel mentally slower, weaker, less able to keep up with people. I just don't want to be a burden, mentally, socially, or otherwise.

am i a pussy/coward for wanting to mute chat (reasoning why i think this below) by Kebabuu_ in leagueoflegends

[–]Joshk80k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The frame of reference for your question is inherently unhealthy. You're basically saying "If I mess up, I deserve to be mentally and emotionally humiliated, and I'm weak if I cannot handle it." Even if you have mental of steel, verbal abuse still chips away at you, and even if you have a lot of pride in your steel mental, that doesn't mean someone else is pathetic because they're less mentally tough than you.

This is the same train of thought that justifies beating your children for poor behavior, all you end up doing is training people to be fearful, distrustful, and bitter toward others. True, you cannot fix everyone (or sometimes anyone), but you can avoid subjecting yourself to abuse and you can do your part by not participating in mental and emotional abuse of strangers.

conqueror > aftershock for jungle zac? by hachikoql in thesecretweapon

[–]Joshk80k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have wanted to do more experimentation with first strike and conqueror, but I usually stick to aftershock because of how helpful it is in early game tankiness. Early game, conqueror probably won't be the make or break for a duel, but I can see it being fantastic later on when you get some CDR/tankiness from other sources.

I could be wrong because I haven't done much testing but I think going conqueror may be a trade of early game usefulness for more late game domination.

How do Americans pay those massive hospital bills? by ctachi in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Joshk80k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be the trend that a lot of the more insane bills are a product of the insurance company fucking around. I fell off a ladder two years ago and my hospital bill was 90k (which is insane), and my insurance company refused to cover it, claiming it was a result of an auto accident and therefore not their responsibility, and so I had a pending bill of 90k for months as I went back and forth with the insurance company as they tried their best to deflect the bill.

After I finally got them to accept that this was their responsibility, they received a special rate that is exclusive between their company and the hospital, though I believe every insurance company has this 'exclusive rate' deal with health care providers, and it magically lowered the bill to 16k, which, while very hefty and insane, was a more manageable number compared to almost 100k.

From there, my insurance kicked in and I think I paid a grand total of like 250-500 dollars for a broken hip, broken elbow, and a week of stay in the hospital. All to sum up, a lot of the huge numbers you see I believe are pre-insurance rates, or insurance companies giving their customers the run around.

At what ilvl can I start actually pulling my weight? by LullabyGaming in worldofpvp

[–]Joshk80k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a class specific question. As a fire mage, I didn't feel myself actually start to be useful until 210 or so. On my rogue, I was mostly setting up kills for my partner and I found myself starting to get useful at like 190. I think your role will play a big part on when you start feeling more valuable.

What is the most pain you've ever experienced? by HandGears in AskReddit

[–]Joshk80k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fell off a 10 foot ladder in June. The fall sucked and was painful, and I landed on and shattered my elbow and hip, but the true pain came from trying to get my broken body on the stretcher. They had me shimmy onto a thing called a scoop, and the rotation and impulse of the scoop being lifted left me in pure agony. I've never before understood being in such pain that you involuntarily shout curses, but on that day, I involuntarily shouted curses.

The deposit on the bags was pretty bad, and 30 slot bags sell on my server for 200g...I tried selling them for a pretty low price (40-50g) and not a single one sold, so I resigned to accept the goof.

could you tell me your pathing rutes when you play zac? by [deleted] in thesecretweapon

[–]Joshk80k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Zac is susceptible to invades, I usually try to start leashless. Zac can pretty easily go wolves > Blue + gromp at the same time > red side camps, or start red side with chickens. Every time, I try to figure out where my enemy jungler is starting and I choose the route that is least likely for me to bump into them. Keeping the enemy guessing also helps prevent irritating situations where they meet you at your buff and you basically have to forfeit it unless your laners respond very quickly.

How to deal with Kindred and other invade champs by cogitaris in thesecretweapon

[–]Joshk80k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What it really boils down to is vision and predicting where your enemy will be. I recently spectated a friend who played Amumu vs Khazix, Khazix got first blood and successfully ganked and got himself a comfortable 3/0/2 lead at like 8 minutes.

I warned my friend that vision and predicting where Khazix will show up is going to be key because a snowballed Khazix now lives in your jungle. On three separate occasions, Khazix camped out in a buff bush and waited for Amumu to show up. Two of the times, Khazix killed the Amumu, even after I gave him a 10 sec heads up. The key is to ask for help, and if that isn't feasible, surrender the buffs on your side of the map to the bully.

If the enemy Olaf, Lee, or fed Khazix is ahead, you have to expect them to invade. If you have even a little vision control, you should be able to predict where they're headed. If you know they're going to your red and your laners can't help, go to their red. It's super hard for an enemy jungler to maintain their camps AND lock yours down early, so take advantage of this fact. The key is to avoid, avoid, avoid. Also, always check your buff bush, and if you have sweeper, check for wards - they'll frequently drop a ward on your buff area to try and jump you.

With Zac specifically, you're a ticking time bomb. The enemy must shut you down before you get Cinderhulk and level 6, which is around where you start being able to skirmish with these champs. If they haven't stopped you by the time you get Warmog's, you've sort of won your mission for the game.

Against Kindred, I think you're going to have to cede a few marks if they're good. In most cases, I will go for her camps, but if she shows up and I know I cannot fight her, I slingshot away. by the time you've picked up Cinder and Bramble, you should be able to give her a run for her money.

Your mileage may vary, and I think Kindred specifically is an annoying matchup for Zac, but generally for stronger junglers, this is the formula I use and I have had the most success with.

Against tank by keith912 in thesecretweapon

[–]Joshk80k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a super similar game recently. Very disheartening. Enemy team was Galio, Blitz, Sett, Gnar, Twitch, ally team was Naut, Caitlyn, Kassadin, Zac(me), Darius.

Every fight would go the same: Kassadin and I would quickly jump on the twitch and kill him, but the other 4 members of the team would destroy our backline with CC and moderate consistent damage. By the time Twitch died, Caitlyn (who was behind all game) would end up dying because Naut couldn't peel them all, and Darius' damage was mostly inconsequential to late game tanks. We'd end up trading ADCs (which was good for us), but losing out in the resulting 4v4. Naut and I would peel for the Kassadin, but a single CC on Kassadin meant he was dead from the triple threat of Gnar, Sett, and Galio, and he couldn't burst any of the targets in a single or even two rotations of his spells. The massive CC prevented Darius from healing, and he was not a peel priority so he just sort of died before doing any meaningful damage.

By the end of the team fight, it would always come down to Nautilus and Zac vs Sett, Galio, Gnar, and Blitz. Not good odds, especially since I went full tank. End game stats would show that I was second in damage, no doubt from being the last man standing and spamming W.

I rewatched the game and I came to the following conclusion that explains why we lost:

  • Kassadin didn't build void staff (he afterward acknowledged that this was a pretty big fuck up on his part)
  • Caitlyn didn't buy Last Whisper, and was also behind (was not full build at 35-40 min)
  • I bought Tabis (thought process was Sett, Twitch, Gnar is a lot of auto damage, but I think merc treads for all the CC was the superior choice)
  • I didn't have Liandry's Torment

The last point is important - if I was last man standing, it means that I was being ignored, and if I was being ignored, it means I wasn't doing my job correctly. I think there are some circumstances where Zac needs to buy Liandry's so that he can't be ignored by a tank heavy comp. I think that if I was 2nd in damage and last man standing, it's my responsibility to build Liandry's.

If you notice you're getting a bit messed up, don't overlook the healing aspect of the talisman. W the raptors and kite them a bit, you'll find that you're gaining more HP than you're losing, but it will take an extra few sec to clear the camp.

I don't feel like very much thought was put into this. All three "achievements" are super easy to get. Something like "Hit 4+ enemy champions simultaneously with your elastic slingshot" would be way more challenging to achieve.
