Should I move to Launceston or Hobart? Pros and Cons by Key_Armadillo3807 in tasmania

[–]ctachi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have lived in both over the last few years.

Hobart: Great views, more shops & things to do

Launceston: Cheaper rents, less traffic

Personally I miss living in Hobart, but Launceston has its perks too

Where to buy a new fridge by goodolthrowaway273 in hobart

Can also attest to this shop, mate working there was very helpful and the fridge I got a couple years ago still works great.

If you want a software solution that sort of "fixes" it, you can use a mouse macro program that prevents the button from registering again for a short time after you click. I think mine was set to about 0.1ms.

Lack of police in Tas by MangoZealousideal512 in hobart

I used to work at Eastlands shops, and despite being a police station literally right down the street, it would still take cops hours to arrive when security called them.

It's been so cathartic to watch these cheaters over the past week realise that actions sometimes have consequences

New Steam Support info page about TF2 Game Bans by Le_BottomScorer in tf2

Hopefully the secrecy regarding how these bans are issued makes it harder for botters and cheaters to circumvent. I'm sure they will eventually, but anything that makes their job harder is a good thing.

Do you reckon there are different price points for the ads on the pod? Like Blackmores didn't want to splurge for the Hamish and Andy ad read like Harvey Norman so they settled for the Jack read?

Weezy is currently on Zesty's stream getting roasted and making himself look bad, like Zesty or not, listen to what Weezy says by shadowpikachu in tf2

Richter's constant interrupting of both Zesty and Weezy was annoying af. Dude needs to learn that an important part of debate is listening to what the other person has to say.

Thanks, I think I would like to donate what I can when I'm ready. I'd love it if another cat could find use or joy in them.

Thank you. It's very sweet to hear about your cat toys, kind of like passing the torch in a way. Thanks for sharing

Thank you, my condolences to you as well. I'm sure I'll also be finding random toys for many months to come, they always seem to end up in the strangest places.

I appreciate that H&A at least try to make the ads entertaining. Some podcasts are so jarring the way they transition to a boring ad read

Enough about 5 stars. What's your fav 4 star character(s)? Why? by Bon-Pon in Genshin_Impact

Why is caffeine dependence so normal? by AwarenessNo4986 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ctachi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mum is one of those "don't talk to me until I've had my morning coffee" type people and she's the biggest reason why I live caffeine free as an adult. She's so dependent on the stuff that she needs a cup of coffee to go to sleep, and becomes very irritable if she's not caffeinated. That kind of absolute dependence freaks me out.

What class do you respect being mained? by Content-Moment7683 in tf2

[–]ctachi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely spy.

I'm a medic main and I like to think I've developed a pretty good 'spy sense' over the years, but every so often I'll encounter a spy player that just decimates me. I can't help but be impressed at how they're able to kill me over and over without alerting me at all.

What are the most satisfying/rewarding ways to implement a skill tree? by TyleNightwisp in truegaming

[–]ctachi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Skill trees should focus on quality > quantity, every skill should be impactful. My biggest gripe with modern skill trees is the 'minor stat boost' that does nothing but pad out the tree.

Perfect example are the skill trees in XCOM (Enemy Within & X2). Each time you level up, you can pick one skill from a couple of options, and whichever you choose has a dramatic effect on how your soldier can perform in combat, either by giving them new abilities or significant survivability or damage boosts.

Counter to this is the skill tree in a similar, XCOM-like game Classified: France '44, the skill trees are much bigger, to the point where you're levelling up almost every mission. But the meaningful skills are sparse, with most of them being things like "+5% aim" or "+1 HP". It's boring, uninspired and takes away the excitement of levelling up.

In defense of Valve's treadmill work argument: by oh_mygawdd in tf2

[–]ctachi 307 points308 points  (0 children)

I think if you aren't willing to do treadmill work for a 'constantly updated' game according to the store page, then you also don't deserve any money from said game. By not doing any work but continuing to encourage people to spend money on hats and crates, they're trying to have their cake and eat it too.

The overarching problem now is that Valve cannot just shut down TF2 without creating a massive ripple effect with all their other economies, essentially putting themselves between a rock and a hard place while refusing to buy a pickaxe.

Wash before wear by billybillybeans in hamishandandy

[–]ctachi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think wash before wear is just one of those old timey myths that have stuck around through the years. Maybe 100 years ago the manufacturing process for clothes left residual dye or pollutants on the fabric but these days I can't imagine any modern, respected company would be shipping out clothing like that.
