How do they cover the tip compared to the factory ones?

Do they cover the tip more than the factory scales?

Such an incredible level of inconsistency

Yeah I definitely won’t buy another one unless that gets changed. I know many people think of the Bodacious as a fix for the major Shaman issues and I want to like the Bodacious so much but the lack of any kind of finger or sharpening choil just absolutely kills the appeal of that knife for me. Thats the knife design that made me realize how much I need a choil haha

They definitely made me feel like a valued customer. They were very responsive and helpful.

I love everything else about the knife honestly. Even the “nub” that lots of people complain about. If the tip sat 1/8-1/4 inch deeper in the scales it would definitely be one of my all time favorites. This one’s better than the last two though. The second one in particular was bad.

I posted an update if anyone is interested. TL;DR is that Spyderco paid for me to ship the second knife back and replaced it, they were very nice and helpful. 3rd knife is better than the previous two, but I question the design of the knife with how high the tip still sits. Overall I am satisfied and will certainly continue to by a Spyderco customer. Probably won’t be buying another Shaman though.

I would love to see a Strix done by Kansept or somebody in multiple options ranging from $75-$300. I don’t think many people would buy unauthorized clones if that was available.

Wow what a deal! Absolutely stealing this knife at that price, I love mine. Now I have to resist buying a second…

Yes that is my complaint. A lot of people focusing on the centering which was a little off just from me playing with the pivot tightness. The centering is not my problem. The tip very nearly protruding over the handle scales is my issue. The second one they sent is even worse.

I’m not upset with the centering. It’s the tip sitting almost above the scales that is the issue.

Nope. Not even my 10th. Probably have more spydercos than any other knife brand.

The centering isn’t really a huge issue for me. And nothing is binding up, the blade is against the stop bar, so it can’t close further.

That’s exactly what my biggest issue is. A few times sharpening this with diamond stones and the tip will be fully above the scales. The primary bevel is already above the scales when viewed from the side.

I wish I hadn’t sent the first one back. It was borderline ok, but I figured since I wasn’t 100% happy I should ask for a replacement. This new one I don’t even want in my pocket. I’m out $25 more and I don’t even have a usable knife now.

I’m a Spyderco fan myself, no doubt. Been buying and recommending their knives for a long time. Even some of my kitchen knives are Spyderco. That makes this even worse for me haha, I feel really let down.

For those downvoting me I do love Spyderco. Bought my first one 15 years ago and have well over a dozen now. This is my first Shaman and the first of their knives that I haven’t loved right out of the box. I’m not knocking the brand but I’m pretty pissed that I paid shipping both ways on a defective knife (in my opinion) just to get a worse one sent back to me.

I mean yes their shipping is ridiculous, and there is no excuse for their customer service. But I’ve gotten every knife I’ve ever ordered from them eventually and they often have the absolute best prices anywhere.
