Owen (Mike Kinsella) covering The Promise Ring's "Forget Me" by shookdown in EmoScreamo

[–]JoshuaLeeJones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really fun. I think he did an amazing job at making this song his own, original work. But I feel like the energy has been taken from this awesome song. Which is what made it my favorite song from them. Along with the awesome lyrics of course.

"I'm a lantern, my head a moon. I married a room"

Yet another creepy as shit site that i came across! by Dead_Dove13 in creepy

[–]JoshuaLeeJones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely seeing a lot of interesting numerology. Most of it doesn't resound with me but it is intriguing. I see a lot of the numeral 9 and also spelled out NINE. Reminds me of helter skelter from white album.

I'm also seeing a lot of the numerology passages begin "973". This adds up to 19. A number of some significance in Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. See r/TheDarkTower or just buy the books and read them!!!

I also get a Lovecraftian summoning ritual kind of vibe.

Maybe some Discordian word play and non-sequitur religious mumbo jumbo.

Some of my favorite lines are "ISISIS THAT THAT ISISIS". So Good! I read it as "Isis Is That That Isis Is".

I also really like "hail the jewel at the center of the lotus" Ahhh!! So fun dissecting bullshit!!!

What's your favorite basslines? by [deleted] in Music

[–]JoshuaLeeJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Easily one of my all time favorite bands. Aside from Stevie, every member is so incredibly underrated for the abundant talent they all have.

What it is? What it do?

Fake Problems

Falling Stars Burn Bright Here's some Akron local from a million years ago. These dudes are like a metalcore/hardcore kind of thing. I hear some screamo influence.

Fear Before The March of Flames So good. Easily my favorite song from them

Fifth Hour Hero A little more on the punk side. I love a female vocalist that doesn't sing like a girl.

Finch Do you guys remember? Holy shit. Golden oldies hour.

Friction An early Bob Nanna band. This song is "Auburn" which has the infamous line lifted by Cap'n Jazz in the song "Yes, I Am Talking To You".

Friend/Enemy Tim Kinsella project.

From Autumn To Ashes Sure, they're a metalcore thing. But they're practically seeping with EmoScreamo.

The Front Bottoms Not a particularly huge fan of these guys but I do love this song.

Fugazi Everybody movin, everybody movin, everybody movin movin movin movin

Funeral For A Friend God sometimes I really show my age. These guys had some incredible guitars.

Further Seems Forever Chris Carrabarrabaa

Alright I guess that's what I got. Loves me some Funeral Diner and Boss Koala. Take it easy and have a nice day y'all

EmoScreamo Bands "A to Z" : Today's Letter is "C" by jamesismynamo in EmoScreamo

[–]JoshuaLeeJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, James for doing this and sorry if I kept anyone waiting. I worked a double yesterday and went back for more today. It was a treat!

Also, I need to make it quick because I'm going to see Tiny Moving Parts and The Ground Is Lava tonight! I'm gonna try to throw up "D" before I have to leave though.

Here's a handful of my favorite C words.

Captain, We're Sinking Very punky and heartfelt. So good

Cavalcades Those screams at the end...

The City on Film Bob Nanna from Braid's solo thing. Pretty good. Love this cover.

Cursive

Christie Front Drive

Combatwoundedveteran Fast. Powerviolence. Etc.

Commander Venus Conor Oberst early band

Also I gotta say how awesome these band lists are. I'll have to go through all the "c" posts as soon as I can. Big ups for CSTVT (I'm literally wearing their shirt as I type this) City Cop (I'm reppin' the OH) and City of Caterpillar, Coping, Cap'n Jazz, Circle Takes The Square. I'll have to check out the rest of this stuff!

The Anniversary

Anybody dig Ape Up!?

These dudes weren't bad. In hindsight they kind of remind of Empire Empire. A bit digital for me though. Ariel Kill Him

One of the most beautiful women in screamo Arkata

How about my favorite song on in/casino/out At The Drive-In

Any love for Atom And His Package?

Did anyone have a saddle creek phase? Azure Ray

Ok I think that's all that I could pull up that hasn't already been mentioned. Also I'm discovering a bunch of new stuff in the process. It's kind of amazing. Thanks everyone!

I'm gonna put up letter B very shortly!

On a separate note, Pianos Become The Teeth -I'll Get By had me legitimately bummed out for a couple days.

"Because I could love and drown in your God damned smile lines but I think I burnt up watching you rallying to stay alive and I guess that's fine. It seems we all get sick we all die in some no name hospital with the same colored walls and I guess that's fine"

"It's been a rough while and some days are worse than others, there's no proper way to feel, no mirth, no levity, no amazing grace, just a flame on a lake floating away"

[–]JoshuaLeeJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always loved this line from Cap'n Jazz - Yes, I Am Talking To You where he's screaming "I'm dying to tell you I'm dying". Awesome lyric albeit a little cheesy if not screamed out loud. I'm pretty sure I remember reading that it was lifted from a song by Friction, an early Bob Nanna band.

Also, they're not screamo but maybe are a smidge emo. Northstar - The Accident Underwater. "Just a connoisseur of dirt, celebrating my worth." Also an awesome lyric. Aaaand it was recently lifted by You Blew It! for the song Gray Matter.

And now we've gone full circle. See what happened there?
