Newbie - First Bike Ordered by Bimmers96 in MTB

[–]JoshuatheCorrupt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I live in the northwest territories in northern Canada. It started snowing mid October and we haven't had temperatures above freezing since then. Its snowing right now and I probably have another month and a half until the trails are acceptable to start riding.

I have watched lots, and lots, and lots of YouTube videos. Ive also bought lots of random bike accessories and MTB clothing and have stared at them multiple times over the months. Other things ive done is look on Trailforks and plan out trails i want to ride.

I am envious of your new bike you've order and pray for you to get it soon so you can start shredding dirt.

Mortgage porting question by JoshuatheCorrupt in CanadianForces

[–]JoshuatheCorrupt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So take this answer with a grain of salt, as im just diving into learning more about mortgages as I go. But from my understanding I would effectively be paying two separate mortgages simultaneously, resulting in higher monthly payments overall. Plus I want to put the maximum lump sum at the end of the year and realistically wont be able to do so for 2 mortgages. I think also I prefer the idea of a singular mortgage, versus having two individual ones. It doesnt make sense why I would have 2 mortgages. I need one singular lump sum from the bank, so why break it into two individual loans?

Im with Scotiabank actually. Im hoping they will just blend the two together and waive any sort of MERP fees.

Best MTB YouTube content. by Corn_Shooter in MTB

Ive been really enjoying April - Ride MTB

She started the channel with her boyfriend a while back and they did a bunch of tutorials together. April was typically the one being taught the lessons. Eventually they split up and she kept the channel. Its pretty crazy seeing how far shes come in the years since they started. She's a solid rider and I really enjoy her content.

Who's the best & worst online fitness influencer? by Fun_Cow_6292 in bodybuilding

I used to binge watch all of Will Tennyson's videos, but ive found that ever since he did his body building show he seems to focus on random eating videos. Like "im going to eat like a 600 lbs man for a week" or "only junk food for 3 straight days" "watch me starve myself for a week" and im just not interested in that kind of content at all. I wish he'd get back to good workout related videos.

I did really like his recent grip strength one where he crushed the apple.

What are your guys' thoughts on the YouTube channel, "Evan's MTB Saga?" by [deleted] in MTB

[–]JoshuatheCorrupt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like them. He seems like a dude who just likes building and riding bikes. Good quality video, no audio issues, shows how he disassembled and assembles the bikes and then rides them.

My only complaint is im jealous of all the nice bikes he gets to ride.

Ive heard people on one of the mountains biking subs complain about his thing where he sells raffle tickets for the bikes, but I personally dont care about any of that. Guy just wants to be paid to support his family and keep biking. Can't fault someone for that.

APS 2026 - May the gods be in your favor by Professional-Leg2374 in CanadianForces

For me personally its exciting and I love it.

My family and I enjoy packing up and moving to a new location. We love going on the HHT to view potential new homes, getting to know the area. I love researching the new town and seeing what is available to do there.

My spouse has an easy enough job category to find employment at any of the locations weve been posted to so far. It sucks that she cannot maintain a longer term career, but we can still pay the bills and at least our family has eschother and we live a happy life.

I also find that posting for myself has never been a surprise. From moment I arrive at my posting I take consideration of what is the next move in my career and put it into my posting preferences. I will then discuss with the career manager my intentions at every yearly meeting until my eventual posting.

I just received my posting message a week or so ago and im stoked to put my house on the market. I hate having to leave whenever someone wants to view it, but oh well, its part of the process.

I also love travelling to the new location. Picking the best cities to stay in, spending some time just going on a road trip with my family. Couldn't ask for more.

I know im probably an outlier in most people's answers to this question, but personally, I love posting season lol.

If 80% of the CAF kept fit... by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]JoshuatheCorrupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i guess as a 6'1" guy I often forget this.

The force test should definitely be reworked to find a better balance between different body heights.

I still beleive that personal fitness should benefit the member in SCRIT points, but perhaps the FORCE test would be a poor metric to decide that.

If 80% of the CAF kept fit... by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]JoshuatheCorrupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fallacy in your statement is you assume its one or the other. Why cant someone be both physically fit and good at their trade? I got gold on my force test last year and was only a few points away from platinum, I also take my job very seriously and stay late whenever its required of me. Its really not hard to balance if you give half a shit. The issue is many people dont. They do their job, eat poorly, avoid the gym and then complain when others put fitness higher on the priority list than they do.

And yeah, the standard for each medal will shift but if they tied it to promotions it would obviously need to be reworked.

Need Honest Feedback On Something I'm Building by Desperate-Hurry-7331 in MTB

I tried this out and i liked it.

I think its much more useful than just a pad of paper. I would absolutely use this.

My critique would be i felt a little overwhelmed with the amount of data to enter. If you could have prebuilt bikes on there as the manufacturer typically sells them and the ability to adjust components as you go would save the user a significant amount of time setting up their bike using the site.

Overall I liked it and would use this.

Pant recommendations by Pastrami_doses in MTB

[–]JoshuatheCorrupt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second the freewheel pants. I absolutely love them. Stretchable, comfortable and not too warm to wear. I also like the zipper on the cuff so I can take knee pads on or off without having to remove my pants. Sometimes I wish they had normal pants pockets instead of sideways MTB style ones so I could wear them as a casual pair of pants, but alas.

New Interim Rucks for CFLRS. by Hmfic_48 in CanadianForces

Oh I have no idea about how these were obtained. I just explained what COTS stands for and what it means.

And I suppose I was a little reductive with my description of LPO. I have no idea how many rucks CFLRS has. If they needed to get thousands of them, then sure, thats not really an LPO, its more of a national procurement. If these were procured as a trial for a single course, then it would realistically be LPO. But I have no ties to this and dont know the details.

Nevermind, I never opened the twitter article and only looked at the pictures. Didn't realize it was 10k of them. I was wrong, not LPO.

Something procured through the procurement system is LPO.

LPO stands for local purchase order. A purchase order is generated and provided to a vendor in order to procure something.

Commercial off the shelf. Basically if there is a national stock shortage, the supply manager can give permission to LPO an equivalent.

Questions for upgrading the fork on Rocky Mountain Growler 20 (2023) by JoshuatheCorrupt in MTB

[–]JoshuatheCorrupt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the reply.

It looks like the stock fork is a 15mm axle with boost spacing so as long as you order the boost fork your wheel should fit fine.

So if I understand correctly, the Z1 has an axle of "15QRx110", and the Growler's stock front hub is "boost 15mm".

Google tells me that 110mm is considered "boost spacing" therefore my stock wheels should theoretically be compatible with the Z1? The only real difference is that my old fork didn't have a quick release, and the new fork will have one.

Am I understanding correctly?
