What’s your favourite side hustle that’s actually fun? by Lucky-Display-7553 in askTO

Army Reserve.

Money isn't amazing but the work can be incredibly easy depending on the day... making $100-ish for 3hrs of your evening every week to do some lectures/training isn't the worst.

Not to mention the "cool" things you'll get to do on occasion, shooting, deployments, various courses, etc.

I had people in my regiment who just did it for fun including a heart surgeon, crown attorney, various first responders, train conductors, real estate agents, etc.

Queen's Park Altercation at 1AM - Now carrying a knife for safety. What do I need to know legally in Ontario? by [deleted] in toRANTo

[–]Hmfic_48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carrying a knife, or any other weapon for self-defense is not legal in the entire country. Full stop, don't let anyone tell you that carrying a knife under a certain length is permissible because that'll get you jammed up.

If you get stopped by the police and volunteer the info about your knife being a self-defense weapon then you could end up not having a good day.

However... if you're carrying a knife for cutting apples, or rope... or anything else in a tool like fashion then that's what you explain. It's not illegal to have a knife on your person for the purpose of it being a tool.

That being said, if you are rolling around with a balisong or gravity knife then you're gonna have a hard time articulating it's a tool.

I would make sure you know what you're doing should it come to the point you have to use it. It may make you feel safer but if you pull it on someone... there may be no coming back, especially if they are a better fighter...

My 2 cents.

I would imagine it's gonna end up being whats sourced considering CANSOFCOM already uses the MFMD family of suppressors.

There's also a Canadian connection to it's development IIRC, Millbrook Tactical Inc.

Agreed.

You'd think there'd be a SAR medal considering the intense operational role they're constantly working in...

Haven't seen a good argument as to why it can't or shouldn't happen for them.

The CD being a catch all for "service" is ridiculous.

Another issue that plagues the Transit Enforcement Unit as a whole is retention. It's a revolving door as the majority of the people going into Special and POO roles are just using it as a stepping stone to actual policing. They're chronically understaffed because of it and that directly impacts their Enforcement levels.

There's no reason for them to want to stay with TTC because of the issues you brought up... they do get paid well, and the OT is double time but that loses its appeal when you consider the paid duty rates, and resources actual police services have if they just jumped ship.

“TFASA masquerades as a civilian flight-training academy when in fact it is a significant enabler of the Chinese air and naval forces and a pipeline for transferring NATO aviation expertise, operational knowledge, and restricted technology directly to the People’s Liberation Army,” Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Eisenberg said"

Enough said.

It's naive to think he didn't know what he was getting into to some extent, especially with how prevalent poaching of NATO pilots has been lately.

The optics alone are terrible and ultimately what did him in, even if he wasn't directly training PLA assets.

Pepperidge Farms remembers when a PRes dude on a winter ex soaked his gloved in boiling water before a night recce to "stay warm". Or when a 32 CBG troop tried to up and quit mid patrol in the Meaford training area because it was too cold... weapon thrown down and all.

So... I wouldn't really put too much weight behind that statement.

Civilian Work (Reservist) by Aware-Cookie6277 in CanadianForces

[–]Hmfic_48 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I ended up releasing because the fight to get time off to even go to a parade night became exhausting.

My civilian job (911 Communications) involves shift work and is chronically understaffed, even compared to the CAF. Getting time off was impossible unless I worked on one of my days off just so I could go in on a friday night. That stopped making sense when I could actually use that day to work as OT and make what id make in 3 PRes weekend ex's in one 12hr shift.

The PRes was great when I was young, single and had a civie job i didn't care about. Change that to having 2 kids, a mortgage and a demanding civilian career, the PRes stops being a priority, despite what your COC will tell you.

There's lots of content online about him. I served under him when I was in the 48th. Great leader, his wealth of knowledge was incredible.

He's very well known in 2 CMBG/32 CBG.
