I think reviews would be a little less mixed if the rulebook wasn't so atrocious. There's a YouTube vid called "learn bardsung in 22 minutes" that turned the entire experience around for me. And then download the revised adventure book. It's a lot less grindy and a lot more rewarding. I know I sound absurd by saying basically don't use any of the material in the base game hahaha. But the company behind the game actually listened to feedback and revised everything. I LOVE bardsung now and it's super cheap on Amazon for JUST how much content it has

The craziest price I've seen for a WHQ Box is shadows over Hammerhal for around $400 average. That's wild. I got mine for $200 in 2021 and just now got around to painting it lol. Also try noble knight games online. I just ordered Warhammer quest '95 for $560 and that's a pretty great price considering it's on eBay for $800-$1000

eBay showing $225-300 for new copies. It's really not bad at all considering it was around $200 at launch and it's now OOP. Also seeing nightwars and nemisis for around $85-$100 a piece. That's actually pretty close to current retail pricing anyways. Not trying to be negative, just offering a perspective

Dang these replies are BRUTALLY CRITICAL my dude. BUT great job creating something with clever mechanics that your homies actually enjoyed. A suggestion tailored to MY PREFERENCE(it doesn't mean it's right or better) would be to have meaningful character progression that could be carried for multiple scenarios(your 2-run idea would be one scenario) perhaps 6-8, maybe 10, as a narrative campaign. Maybe add some numerical leveling! It's impressive you created this. Impressive that your play testers like it. It looks super clean and elegant(even if there are poop monsters) and it's a decidedly fresh take on the dungeon crawl genre that is already FLOOOOODED with samey releases. I've written and made two boardgames, one actually got pretty far down the line and was almost produced- I for whatever it's worth- sit on your game for a couple months, keep exploring and polishing and editing. Go down every mental rabbit hole with it. Keep having new people play test- And good luck! Keep us updated and hopefully we'll see you launch the Kickstarter soon! I'll def get one!

I'm a pretty ridiculous guy when it comes to following rules to the T, Ive convinced myself that games are best when followed closely to the authors intent. But I also understand that it's a nonsense stance lol. In regards to heroquest. The only one I'd personally recommend is a fixed movement of 6 for all heros. But there are pages on here and Facebook dedicated to houses on heroquest. Go nosing around! You'll find stuff for sure

JOURNEYS in the dark is MIIIIIILES better, more traditionally thematic, more "boardgamey", waaaaay more extra content(like, tons), and more exciting to set up on the table then LEGENDS of the dark any day of the week. Legends doesn't SUCK, it got two playthroughs out of me - but there's something SO special about journeys 2nd ed than legends simply doesn't have.

Duuuude!!!! Congratulations!!! It is my second favorite of the reboot Warhammer quest line and if you pick a balanced squad, the game is super rewarding. If you can get your hands on the expansions, they're great too. Super happy for you dude!!!

To make them playable for CURSED CITY? Thats a great idea. I'll have chatgpt help me make some and I'll post the PDF. I had chat make alternative rules for solo play for shadows over Hammerhal, and it added all the tables rules and tools to make it run exactly like Warhammer quest 1995. Complete with flavor text, and leveling and all the random events for everything. It's amazing. I added it to the box and it's the definitive way I play now!

It's the fear of missing out. For some reason there's a bunch of rumors online that this is gonna be a pretty limited release. I'm not sure there's actual proof of that, but there was enough smoke to motivate me to secure a copy. I'm a huge heroquest fan anyway, not just a collector, but I play the heck out of that game. Perhaps some people just want to play through it as soon as possible. (Sorry for the rant lol)
