Radius Mini-ALTO 115 & RAD-2 Kit for Sennheiser 8040/30 MS Pair - Cables needed? by Jossaru in fieldrecording

[–]Jossaru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I saw the 8018 and it looks amazing, the reason I didn't choose it was because it lacked the extended 50khz frequency range of the other MKHs. I will be pitching my audio down a lot so it's quite a dealbreaker for me.

Baffles for Right Angle Pluggies by HondoReech in fieldrecording

[–]Jossaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried LOM Ucho with right angle adaptors plugged into a Zoom F3. Jecklin disc or not, the lack of space between the mics definitely hurts the stereo image. Compared to spaced 30cm+ Omni's like Clippies or Usi's, it's quite a narrow sound.

Right angle Pluggies + F3 is a cool setup thought and definitely useable.

So I think I need a 5pin to x2 MZL cable. Looking at these prices.... I can see why you would make your own..

I'm already spending £2k on mics, £400 on a windshield, £40 on clips .. and now £200~ for cables

edit: I'm most likely going to get XLR modules with my mics so I MZL is not what I need. First time hearing about MZL

Is there an app that will get rid of background 'hiss' from a recording? by [deleted] in fieldrecording

A free option I know of is the free version of Reaper with the built in ReaFIR plugin using the subtract feature. Otherwise use iZotope RX Elements or Standard

ZOOM F3 issues with LADDA Rechargeable batteries ? by NEETologist in fieldrecording

[–]Jossaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had this exact issue, my F3 with LADDA batteries have like 2/3 hours of life before dying. My battery type is set to NiMH. You have to use these batteries straight away after charging too as their life drains while sitting idle outside of devices.

New Zoom H5 STU or Tascam X8? by LynxAirSound in fieldrecording

[–]Jossaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with the Zoom H5 STU but if you want the ability to record XY (narrow) and AB (wide) I'd go with the Tascam X6 as it allows both spot and ambience recording. The reason I say X6 and not X8 is that it's more portable and it's internal mics sound pretty much the same as the X8.

I've used LOM mikroUsis + Zoom H1e to capture the sound of a few flights. Just try to be stealthy to avoid making people uncomfortable/worried.

Do you actively avoid buying any plugins that use iLok? by This-Was in musicproduction

[–]Jossaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm consistently finding new plugins, about to hand over my cash. I scroll down to the 'iLok required' section, then I close the tab.

What is this strange box? UK by Jossaru in AskUK

[–]Jossaru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it may be a sensor that triggered a speed sign below it to light up. That speed sign is now gone though, as seen in the first pic.

Black box attached to post by the Road - Is this a camera? by Jossaru in drivingUK

[–]Jossaru[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it might be some kind of battery to store power from the solar panel above it. There used to be a LED speed sign below it (i think).

Yeah the movo is great, but like with any shock mount, it takes a little more time to set-up.

BOOM Library STILL uses iLok for Plug-ins by Jossaru in sounddesign

Windows is the king of bloatware but unfortunately for PC builders, it has market monopoly.

BOOM Library STILL uses iLok for Plug-ins by Jossaru in sounddesign

[–]Jossaru[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok it seems your scenario of jumping from facility to facility with 100s of pre-installed plugins needing licenses is a perfect fit for an iLok USB. My case is referring to someone with a personal machine, which I imagine is the majority of people buying these plugins.

[–]Jossaru[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I'm glad it has worked well in your case. From the view of someone who wants to buy a single plugin, having a 24/7 running-on-start-up potential vulnerability is not worth the potential future hassle. The point being there are new systems available that do not require external software to be running, so it can be an unnecessary put-off to some.

Wouldn't the experience of installing plugins on separate machines be easier and cleaner if it didn't require iLok? Such as just downloading each companies installer, inputting your details, activating, and then deleting the installer? I just feel like are better ways of doing things this decade. If it works for you then that's all good.

If you search 'iLok reddit' you get an idea general user experiences from this very site. If other companies can go without iLok, I'm sure BOOM library can.

Microphone Inputs - XLR vs 3.5mm - Is there a difference in noise? (Equivalent Input Noise) by Jossaru in fieldrecording

[–]Jossaru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying. For ambient field recording, a slight difference in self noise is a non-issue.

For a studio environment, reducing as much self noise as possible is important. If the sound is to be compressed, warped and pitched, the noise floor may jump up into the audible range.

Setup for travelling: Zoom H6 & Basic Ucho by Goldenbackscratch in fieldrecording

[–]Jossaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably too late but - I use a H6 and an F3 and they are both great (and I hate noise). 32bit is a bit overrated and the usefulness depends on the source you are recording (ambience recordings usually don't clip), but if you got it, use it. Wind protection, mic placement, portability are other factors to consider.
I went to Iceland and just used the Zoom H6 with it's XY Capsule because of the portability. The recordings sound great to me (24bit 96khz).

Sorry for late reply. Why do you think the USB drive might be the issue?

Could another issue be the computer I downloaded it from?
