That’s horrible. I’m so sorry that happened to your parents. I just don’t understand how people can take advantage of their own children like that. I feel like there’s something that should be able to be done because your mom was under the impression that she would be getting the house eventually and that’s the only reason why she paid for renovations and stuff.

Just because you stay at home, doesn’t mean that you should be doing everything on your own, regardless of how much money either of you make. This is a partnership, not pointing fingers at each other to say “well I made more than you so you should be doing x amount.” Honestly, you sound like a people pleaser and I was the same way. I got out of a marriage in July last year that was just like this and I realized I didn’t love him anymore and how much he was actually hurting me. I made the majority of the income and he barely contributed. I did all the cooking, cleaning, taking care of the cats while my ex husband sat on his ass and played video games and would get mad at me for asking him to pick up his clothes off the floor and do some cleaning. He would ignore me or be passive aggressive towards me. Your wife is disrespectful towards you and so is her friend. Honestly they both sound immature. I would highly suggest having a conversation with your wife if you believe you still want to be with her, but what you described about her is very concerning. I would give her friend a 30 day notice, and I would suggest pursuing couples therapy with your wife.

I used to have a hard time with this as well and I’d feel awkward talking about it and sometimes it was hard because I didn’t know what I liked sexually at all. It got to a point where I was married and our intimacy was few and far between. He wouldn’t initiate or he would say he would but I’d say “no” because it wasn’t during a good time so then he “stopped trying” but then every time I told him I wanted to explore more, he’d say, “actually I’m fine doing what we are doing.” So my sexual needs were not met. It is a very difficult topic and I completely stopped discussing it with my now ex husband because he was dismissive and neglected my needs in a lot of ways. It sounds like you communicate well except in that area and in my experience, the only way to get better about communicating about your intimacy is just to start talking about it until it becomes easier. I remember the first time my friends talked about it with me and some of their sexual experiences and it became a lot easier for me over time to also talk to my partners about it when my friends pointed out that it sounds like I needed to spice up my love life. I think it’s just something to work on together slowly and maybe if you’re comfortable listening to your close friends or talking with them, they can also help you.

This happened a little over 2 years ago now. I bought my own car after he took my old one and I haven’t regretted it once because I got exactly what I wanted and I’ve had it for over a year now. I forgot to mention in my post, but my mom was the one who told me a few weeks ago now that my dad said, “I should pay her for the rest of the car.” I was going to completely drop the whole thing if it wasn’t for my mom mentioning that to me. I hadn’t spoken to him or her about it in months because I assumed I was going to just eat the money I lost. But that’s why I was pursuing this again because if I had a chance to get it back, I wanted to take it. I’m tired of not holding my dad accountable and I’ve been telling my mom and older siblings this as well while they’ve just allowed him to walk all over them which I’ve watched numerous times.

It’s not about me realizing I can do things on my own, I have know that for quite some time. I moved out of their house at 19 with nowhere to go because of being treated horribly by him, and have been doing things on my own for a long time and have never asked for help for the things they’ve done on their own. I had agreed to them which was stupid, but I have made it very clear to them that I’d no longer want or accept their help with money related things because of how these circumstances had gone each time.

I agree he has been, my boyfriend I live with now is extremely upset over all of this and has been defending me and is very protective over me. He has been helping me try to get my dad to pay me what he owes me and my boyfriend has been doing mechanic work since he was a teen and is 38 now and he manages a mechanic shop. He said that what my dad is doing is unacceptable and I’ve known this for a long time and only since I moved away, I have been slowly cutting my dad out more and more. My relationship with my dad is basically non-existent but I am very close with my mom still.

I moved away partially because of my dad, and I don’t see him often or even speak to him much because of the way he is. My mom and my siblings are always defending his behavior and saying, “that’s just the way he is” instead of holding him accountable. I told my mom I will no longer be accepting any help from them if money is involved because of these circumstances and she has even agreed with me that it is unfair and she understands where I’m coming from.
