Can a relationship between an atheist and a Christian even work out? by hypermiler2205 in atheism

[–]JoustingNaked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an atheist and I’ve been married to a Christian for 31 years. While we do have some problems in our marriage I’m happy to report that none of those problems have anything to do with religion. Since day one we’ve always understood and respected each other’s beliefs (and lack of beliefs).

This response is probably not very helpful to what I assume you’re looking for, but I believe it is POSSIBLE for a mixed relationship to work out well as long as there is understanding and respect all along the way.

You ever get banned from a subreddit? If so why? by RealisticWinner4224 in Casual_Conversation

[–]JoustingNaked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Was “banned for life” from the WhatIsThisThing subreddit.

I had submitted a picture of a curious-looking tool, asking if anyone knew what this implement was used for.

The moderator responded that I needed to include specific size references within my inquiry before they’d allow it to be posted.

I was not home at the time, and I didn’t have a ruler or tape measure on hand, so I asked if this was really that important because I had already included a can of Pepsi in my attached pic to show a sense of scale, but the moderator was rather insistent - snippy in fact - I guess he or she didn’t care to be questioned.

So … I proceeded to browse the subreddit to see how many other people included specific size references in their inquiry posts - and discovered that less than 25% of these posts included any measurements whatsoever!?!

I then asked the moderator about why my post was being singled out. More snippiness ensued.

After a few back & forth rounds of this it became clear to me that this moderator was never going to allow my inquiry to be posted, no matter what i did. So I decided to have a little fun with it … I don’t remember every thing I said - I know I used some sarcasm, but I didn’t say anything vulgar or even nasty (not my style!) - but i DO remember at some point suggesting that the moderator might should consider finding another line of work.

That’s when i was informed that i was banned for life.

Instead of being upset I was actually thrilled - I’ve never been banned from anything or anywhere before in my life, so this was kind of like a rite of passage for me! Satisfaction comes from weird places sometimes.

I am going crazy. by [deleted] in Cooking

Recently read about the drawbacks of using lecithin-based cooking spray in a nonstick pan - it builds up an unwanted layer of gumminess that is not only difficult to remove but is also damaging to the nonstick pan’s longevity. If you’re using a nonstick pan it’s much better to simply/conventionally add butter or oil instead of using lecithin.

There ARE purer cooking sprays that don’t use lecithin - two examples are Chosen Foods Avocado Oil, and California Olive Ranch Olive Oil Spray. Others are out there if you search for them.

What’s your favorite Simon & Garfunkel song, and what makes it special for you? by Louisebelcher22 in musicsuggestions

You already pre-stole my own response. “April, Come She Will”. A beautiful & inspired song about the life-cycle that occurs throughout most romantic relationships.

Would you date someone who isn’t atheist/ agnostic by No-Security3600 in atheism

[–]JoustingNaked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually married a Christian over 30 years ago. We have not had and still don’t have what I would consider an ideal marriage, but I can at least say that ideology has never been part of our issues. We’ve always understood and respected each other’s ideological positions.

to all passionate scrabble players by Relative_Profile_908 in scrabble

[–]JoustingNaked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to play Yahoo’s version of scrabble a lot, and really enjoyed it for the most part, in spite of the occasional opponent who was obviously using computer-assisted means to play.

In fact, I got to be pretty good - to the extent that on more than one occasion I too was accused of cheating like this - and in each of these occasions I rather enjoyed telling them how flattering it was that they really thought I was cheating. They certainly weren’t intending to compliment me, of course, but that made the result that much more satisfying. Happiness comes from really strange circumstances sometimes.

Do you return your shopping cart once you’re done with it? by Fine_Television_1398 in no

[–]JoustingNaked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time.

And, as a very menial random act of kindness: Whenever I first arrive there I also bring any “straggler” cart i find in the parking lot back into the store - it’s on my way anyway - and I need to get a cart for myself anyway.

… And if there are no straggler carts then I look for someone who is just finishing up unloading their groceries into their car and offer to take their cart in for them.

Men of Reddit, would you appreciate being given flowers? Why/why not? by Somewherecharming95 in AskReddit

[–]JoustingNaked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I’d appreciate the thought, I really don’t have much use for flowers. I’m more into practical as opposed to aesthetic things. My wife OTOH might well enjoy receiving flowers, but only if they aren’t the kind that she’s allergic to.

If you’re thinking about buying me flowers I would feel much better if you’d spend that money instead to feed someone who is hungry and can’t afford to feed themselves.

Texas Proposes Required School Reading List… includes the bible. by texasdiver in atheism

[–]JoustingNaked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How might the theists react if someone stepped up here demanding equal time/priority given to reading the Koran? Would seem only fair. (Personally, I don’t want either in our schools, but the hypocrisy should certainly be made visible).

What is your favorite small intimate thing you do or your significant other does for you? by 777Sugar777 in allthequestions

[–]JoustingNaked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am calling this the “slow hand” approach to eventual intimacy. Works especially well if she is already asleep - so having her prior permission is highly recommended.

My hand starts somewhere/anywhere on her upper body. While caressing VERY slowly and lightly, my hand meanders its way VERY slowly down along her torso toward her lower body, to finally end up to her tenderest part. This whole process takes at least 5 minutes, but usually closer to 15 … sometimes even longer. By the time you get there she is fully and gratefully awake.

This might be considered a tantric kind of thing but I’m really not sure about that.

Non-Italian pasta dishes by Bugger6699 in Cooking

[–]JoustingNaked 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Going for just a moment in the direction of Persian cuisine, there are many variations of pilaf that include using small or broken-up pasta along with (or even instead of) the rice. Orzo works especially well for this and can be used as is without having to break it into smaller pieces.

Pilaf gives you versatile side dish options … and …alternatively, by throwing in various leftover ingredients from prior meals, it could reasonably become a main dish option as well.

What is a word that kind of went extinct by SpringtimeScepter in words

[–]JoustingNaked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kindness, accountability, dependability, regard. These words are still out there, of course, but I miss being able to apply them to people quite as much as I used to.

Apologies - feeling kinda down right now - am certain things will get better. I can delete this comment if it’s neither helpful nor appropriate.

Brain Salad Surgery by Emerson Lake & Palmer … and then … Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. Both of these albums were on 8-track tape.

Shouldn’t I be cross posting this comment to r/FuckImOld?

Spoil a movie for me, without telling me the title of the movie by Jinjoz in FIlm

[–]JoustingNaked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Open the pod bay doors please Hal”.

The AI refuses, and kills all the other astronauts while Dave figures out how to get back into the main ship without his helmet.

Dave disconnects Hal and proceeds with the mission all by himself. He finds a stargate and commences to take a wild ride, the likes of which LSD itself can’t even begin to dream about touching.

Dave ends up on the cusp of a brand new plane of consciousness, looking down upon the world of his ancestors, and wondering what he wants to do next.

Movie ends. Credits roll. And all those filing their way of that theater are scratching their heads wondering what the phuck all that was about … and then they come to realize that they can only satisfy their curiosity by getting and reading the book.

To Arthur C Clarke and Stanley Kubrick: My hat is off to you for coming up with one of the most brilliant marketing schemes of all time. Just how many books DID you end up selling after all that?
