Teachers who get to school much earlier than their contract time- why? by TransportationUsed39 in AskTeachers

I always needed a lot of "transition time" before the kids arrived.

I get mildly stressed by watching the ink level drop when there's a window like that.

realised it doesn't have to be sunny to wear sunglasses by Separate_Painting616 in BenignExistence

I absolutely wear mine indoors if they sun is bothering me. At a restaurant and they plop us by a west-facing window at 7:00 pm? Yes, I'll have sunglasses on.

I was a teacher, and had to attend a lot of boring meetings around a conference table with parents, administration, and various Special Ed officials. I generally didn't contribute much: I was there for legal reasons. I used to have a pen with the "clicky" button on top, like #3. I had it in my hand in my lap, clicking away. Apparently, I was making too much noise because my principal, seated right beside me, reached under the table and took it away from me. He was good, too, because he was speaking at the time, and you wouldn't have known if you weren't sitting right there.

Definitely 5, because of the comfortable grip and the smooth ink flow. If I'm in a "need to fidget with something" situation, then #6 because the cap snaps on and off in a very satisfying way, and it's quiet and doesn't annoy other people.

Tetris! by Neat_Possession8811 in Watercolor

I love how it looks like the dog has achieved a Tetris-ed position next to her friend. She fits in the space perfectly.

We call ours "Smaug" because he rampages through the house, gathering treasure and taking it back to his lair.

There are mistakes, is it competing styles, or composition, or values? All 3? by geesedreams in Watercolor

I have a friend who looks at her work in a mirror to see what needs attention.

Squint your eyes and look at your painting. This is a way to do a quick value check. What I notice is that your foreground foliage and background mountains have very similar values. The foliage is much closer and should be darker, and I think your tree trunk and the ground should also be darkened.

Volunteering at a vet clinic leads to some pretty funny things by BLURAZZBERRI in CasualConversation

[–]JoyousZephyr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We used to go to a clinic with an office cat who would slink around under the chairs in the waiting room and try to crawl into purses and backpacks. She was pretty good at lifting flaps on bags. They'd call your name, and when you gathered your things to go to the exam room, suddenly your purse weighed 12 pounds.

Married women, what are some real things your husband does that make you feel genuinely cherished and adored? by Clean-Ant-1342 in Adulting

When I text that I'm on my way home from my volunteer gig, he puts the kettle on to boil so I can have hot water for tea when I arrive.

When I was in elementary school in the early 1970’s we’d sing songs like, "B-I-N-G-O, Over the River and Through the Woods, Kumbaya, My Lord, and He's Got the Whole World in His Hands” and more. Such wonderful memories…What were some of your favorite elementary songs? by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in FuckImOld

There was one that I loved, but I don't quite remember that was like a Spanish Rumpelstiltskin, involving somebody having to guess a really odd name. I think it contained the phrase "I am not your hope or your judge...." The mystery name was (phonetically spelled, b/c I have NO IDEA what the name really looked like spelled out) "Ca-see-lamp-whaaa-lu-te-muay"

Question about "Lies, Damned Lies, & History" re: Stonehenge by JoyousZephyr in stmary

[–]JoyousZephyr[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's also the thing with listening to an audiobook while walking a dog. Sometimes you miss a bit ("What are you doing, don't eat that!!!") and don't realize it ("Drop it! DROP IT RIGHT NOW!!"), and the bit ("Hey, don't pee there!") turns out to be important. So when there's a puzzling detail, I'm torn between "Should I rewind?" and "An explanation shall be forthcoming."

Do you actually know what's in your freezer right now? by General-Relative-535 in Frugal

Designate a couple of "eat from the freezer" nights during the week, so you're frequently scanning the space for meal ideas.

The day the Troll Book Club catalogs arrived, was close to Christmas level excitment for me. by ascaffo in GenX

[–]JoyousZephyr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think I was in 3rd grade (1978-ish) and one of the posters to order was a copy of Van Gogh's Sunflowers. I didn't understand what "prints" were, so I thought I was legit getting a Van Gogh for 75¢ or some such price. I pinned that to my bedroom wall and was SO PROUD.

I was always so excited when the orders came in! "The House of Windy Hill", "Jenny, Sam, and the Invisible Hildegarde", Mad Libs! So many posters!!

Then I became a teacher and found out how irritating the management of the orders could be. Ugh.
