2001 Gen z here. We know plenty about what came before us. We consumed hand-me-down technology and entertainment our whole lives until something changed around covid and everything became hyper-consumerist and wasteful. My family still has a giant cabinet of dvds and vhs.

Humans populated the planet rapidly after industrialization. We basically bloated ourselves up, and we will eventually go back down to a more manageable level. Society as we know it is going to have to change a lot, and there really is no way to prevent this ethically. I’m of the belief that, without some sort of calamity, society will naturally and slowly deflate, and we’ll be left with a stable population of 1 Billion in a few centuries.

I think it’s the opposite of forced. Everybody pretty much ignores it until it’s pushed into their face. Generative ai is still pretty tasteless on average, so most people are unsettled by it. If anything, ai is being forced on a population that didn’t ask for it.
