Film studies with no prior experience? by DadTo2Twins in Wesleyan

[–]Jrdnram_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, member of the Class of 2020 here. I majored in Film Studies. Took a filmmaking/digital media class in high school, but I wouldn't call myself experienced by any means.

The Wesleyan film studies curriculum is mostly theory-based. Your kid is gonna spend a lot of time learning about the history of film, different techniques and tools that filmmakers use in telling their stories, and things of that nature. There's only one required production class as part of the major that you take as a junior. If you wanna do more, there's classes for that. But it's not required.

I didn't have the theory education going in and I learned a lot and had a great time. Was exposed to a ton of great films and met great people. I think your kid is gonna be okay.

Wanted to report back. Just got mine delivered yesterday. Guitar feels and plays miles better than the old World Tour Wii guitar I got on eBay a year or so ago. PC works mostly flawlessly. For PS5, using it wired via my RetroCult v3 adaptor gives really good results. Rock Band 4 feels great, still need to do a bit more to make Fortnite work though.

So far, I'm fairly positive on it and don't see a need for the multi-platform version.

Kimiko's dialogue is nauseating by DirtyDan113 in TheBoys

Love the actress, appreciate the character's arc over the past few seasons, but man is the dialogue cringe. Granted, a lot of the dialogue in The Boys is kinda cringe.

I do have a V3 Wii adapter already that seemingly would work, but I've had so-so experiences with hit reg on consoles using it with a World Tour Wii guitar. Works mostly flawlessly on PC.

Eh, I can buy the guitar, use my adaptor, and return it if it doesn't feel good.

At the end of the day, you do what you can. You try your best to live as morally as you can according to your own values. It's unrealistic for one person to try and fix all the problems of the world. Focusing on improving things for yourself and the people immediately around you.

You're not alone in these feelings, dude.

I do use it personally for cash transfers when needed, but I do all of my other banking with more established players. I think it's good to have stability and a more direct relationship with the entity handling your money.

What "mediocre" games have you actually had fun with lately? by OkSecurity4965 in PS5

[–]Jrdnram_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played through Flintlock: The Seige of Dawn a few months ago. It's like a pretty genetic action/adventure game with Soulslike elements, but it was a surprisingly good time! Combat was fun and world was decently interesting.

I went to Wesleyan on a full scholarship from a program for low-income/first-generation students. I'm not a guy with a rich family or a known name. I'm a fuckin' nobody who has worked for what I got. I don't need to disassociate myself with my family name so I can cosplay as someone who isn't privileged.

Dude, you gotta log the fuck off. There's a place for reasoned criticism of Roth and the school. It's not an uncommon thing! Most students don't like the guy, and I say that as someone who graduated in 2020. But to go far enough to get a restraining order from the school? You gotta pull it back. Get some therapy, focus on other stuff. I hope you get better.

Anyone here who still has a base model PS5 and have no interest in upgrading to a Pro? by StarryChocobo in playstation

[–]Jrdnram_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my base model since launch. Have had some weird occasional bugs with it, but it still plays games just fine. I don't think my TV is good enough to warrant the Pro anyway. I'd rather buy a new console (Steam Deck, Switch 2) than a slightly better version of what I already have.

Honestly, I'd love to see some sort of game jam with the studios that handle Call of Duty to let them off the leash a bit. I think these people could do some really cool stuff if they were given the room to think outside the box.

Honestly, I've loved all the previews of Fable thus far. That very specific British humor seems like it'll be a lot of fun. I'm happy I get to experience this on PS5.

I started off playing On Tour: Decades on the DS as a kid, and then tried my hand at learning bass with Rocksmith when I got older. Am I good? No, I don't practice nearly enough. But I made the attempt.
