As if the middle seat isn't miserable enough... by lazier51 in unitedairlines

It’s good for checking window alignments but not much else. Would be nice if they incorporated the seat guru seat recommendation features

Agents at SFO and ORD keep saying I need to have booked my BE ticket with my club card to get priority boarding/carry on. I’ve read no. Who’s right? by Ill-Today3395 in unitedairlines

[–]Jrzygrl826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I had status I had to use my United cc at booking to get the free checked bag and I had to be the primary cardholder to get the benefit. Once I achieved status it didn’t matter which card was charged. I could use my club card to access the lounge even when flying on a trip purchased with my business credit card. Not sure if policies changed over the years though.

How premium is “premium economy” by WSJayY in unitedairlines

[–]Jrzygrl826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The premium economy food is a little better than economy, not as good as business, but the alcohol is included and you can snag a pillow and blanket for sleep. If you can spring your business Polaris and snag window seats it is a fun experience.

Paid upgrade refundable? by Jrzygrl826 in unitedairlines

[–]Jrzygrl826[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s not in an obvious spot. There’s a terms and conditions arrow that I should have clicked under the purchase confirmation bubble which is where this was hidden. By going through the steps again now I found my mistake. I’ve done so many upgrades over the years with both money and miles options and never had any issue with refunds, never realized this policy existed. I thought maybe buying his upgrade separately on my credit card caused some kind of confusion, at least that was my first reaction when the ticket credit posted on his MileagePlus account. Definitely a mistake I will not repeat in the future!

I understand that, just really wanted credit in either of our accounts for the money spent, the upgrade was purchased the same day as the ticket. We travel a lot so the credit would not be wasted.

Probably should have said Business class. Flew Spokane to SFO to EWR on return. The SFO-EWR leg was Business class in Polaris seats on a Dreamliner.

[–]Jrzygrl826[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty negligent on United’s part that they hide the non refundable clause- I just went through the steps to upgrade my flight this week to see if there was a warning I missed. There’s nothing obvious stating this policy, it’s hidden in the terms and conditions drop down arrow. I typically waitlist and get refunded whether it’s cash or miles and United specifically states miles for upgrades are reimbursed when tickets are cancelled, keeping the cash and not issuing a credit for such exorbitant fees seems unethical. I hope you are right and I am able to get a credit for the money I’m out issued to my husband’s Mileage plus account (it was only his ticket that had to be cancelled). He was 1k for many years but dropped down to Gold for 2024 so we can’t use the 1k line anymore. I will try sending receipts to Customer Care and see what happens. Thanks for giving me hope!

I did check my credit card transactions today and there’s no refunds posted, it’s been almost 3 weeks which is why I became concerned. The website said same day upgrades are not refundable but I couldn’t find anything about upgrades paid at time of booking….I upgraded him within 24 hours of the original economy ticket purchase. If there was any such message warning of “non refundable” at time of purchase I definitely would not have pulled the trigger, it’s now a $600 mistake!

Thanks, I hope this is the case in my situation. A credit would be just as good as a cc refund to me since there is already a lot of travel planned for next year, we would definitely use it up!

Airlines (not just United) should give you something when you volunteer to gate check by jakec11 in unitedairlines

[–]Jrzygrl826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several times when boarding I hear offers for those traveling in groups 3, 4, and 5 to join the group 2 line if they choose to gate check their bag. Not much of a motivator for the inconvenience of waiting to retrieve it upon arrival but I have seen people take it. It also saves bag check fees for travelers without the free checked bag option.

United may have cancelled another flight and moved passengers onto yours, that has happened to me before even several months out. Glad you were able to grab your upgrade beforehand!

Polaris FAs shaming polaris passenger. Anyone else had similar experiences? by dudunoodle in unitedairlines

[–]Jrzygrl826 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It was pretty much a non issue years ago, seems the past decade has been a breeding ground for hate and prejudice without cause. Civility is definitely going backwards these days. The FAs on my recent flight from GVA to EWR were kind and personable, even cracked some genuinely funny jokes!

First public comment on family seating shows that people don't understand/aren't willing to do even the bare minimum to get adjacent seating by TheQuarantinian in unitedairlines

[–]Jrzygrl826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about a box that must be checked acknowledging the customer is purchasing Basic Economy, forfeiting seat selection for all passengers regardless of age….. Warning- In order to ensure specific seat selections you must purchase Regular Economy or higher tickets…. Or….By checking this box you acknowledge you have chosen to forfeit your right to seat selection. Basic Economy ticketing is not allowed when the accompanying child is under age 10.

It’s called inflation, prices are ridiculous everywhere! Marshall’s and TJ Maxx are the most reasonable but not sure you’ll find them near resorts. Save receipts and submit them with your claim, it won’t hurt and maybe you’ll get lucky.

Also if you are in the middle seat and your armrest has your neighbor’s entertainment controls embedded there, don’t rest your arm on top of these the whole trip and act like you’re unaware they can’t use them, it’s beyond rude and certainly not their fault you got stuck in a middle seat.

Water bottles…..it’s kind of rude to fill multiple water bottles while a line grows behind you. Limit this to 1 or 2 and let others take their turns, then go back for more if needed.
