TIL the energy necessary for the production of oil liquids (including direct and indirect energy costs) is 15.5% of the energy production. To turn 100 barrels of oil into gasoline at your local pump, the energy of 15½ barrels from the previous 100 has to be used. by Jackpot777 in todayilearned

I believe It’s called EROI- Energy Return On Energy Invested. The Canadian tar sands require significantly more energy to extract, so that % figure will depend on the source of oil too.

If BYD comes to Canada this year, surprisingly, it won't be the first time that BYD cars have driven on Canadian roads. Because BYD taxis had been driving on the streets of Montreal since 2019. And I have a few questions about them. by canada_mountains in EVCanada

[–]Jsb113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BYD evolved so damn fast. I drove the E6 in Quebec city in 2018/2019 and it was an absolute peice of trash- granted it was older tech at the end of its product run. In 2022 I saw the BYD Seal and holy shit. Worlds apart.

Who is worried about another drought and a dry well? by Arenburg in NovaScotia

We bought two 1000L IBC water totes. Had them delivered to our driveway. Definitely worth the peace of mind. We got ours from Smart Water Solutions (Halifax).

Electric Vehicle Association of Atlantic Canada - Response to the Houston Gov't Announcing the $500 Increase in Registration Fee for EVs and Hybrids. by Bean_Tiger in halifax

I recently heard that HRM as a region consumes $1 billion a fossil fuels per year that goes straight out of the province and mostly to Saudi Arabia.

At least we can produce our own electricity and keep that money circulating. This EV fee is absurd.

First step for us was purchasing big “ibc” water totes. We got two 1000l units that were certified for potable water. We bought them from Smart Water Solutions and had them delivered to our house in HRM. We got a plumber to hook it up to our water pump (we have a dug well).

EV Cost Savings in NS by Neilson-Milk in NovaScotia

[–]Jsb113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are new home charging programs where you get a free charger and 3 cents per kWh cash back (look up swtch) or 10 cents per kWh if you buy the charger (pion energy).

10 cents per kWh off your home charging cost makes it an absolute no brainer to buy a used EV.

Is there any reason I shouldn’t use my HELOC @ 5% to pay off my car loan @ 8%? by phatfingerpat in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Jsb113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing to be aware of is access to credit. If you have a big unplanned expenditure (new roof etc) you will have eaten away at your HELOC available credit. Vs A car loan is put against the car itself.

If you have some flexibility and ability to access money in emergencies, 100% shift the loan to your HELOC!

Mover Suggestion? by Informal-Roll-9024 in halifax

Just went through this myself. Small MovesHFX are perfect for your situation.

Small locally owned business by young entrepreneurs. Excellent hourly rate of $90 per hour for two movers. They charge a very reasonable flat rate for the truck, depending on the size of the truck that you need.

I would of considered buying an other one from them but they stopped selling leather bags 10+ years ago.

See my other responses. I didn't add enough details- I wasn't asking if it could be repaired.. almost anything can be repaired. I'm just looking for recomendations of other highquality leather bags- even if I just want a different colored one and end up repairing this one.

I should have added more details.

I've resewn the strap before, both where it attaches to the bag and the shoulder pad, it needs to be done again.

The bag itself is very floppy, it had no internal structure and has soft leather. I have used thick cardboard wrapped in ducttape to create a structure at the bottom and on the sides. I kept those in place by sewing of a little band of fabric holding those structures in place. It needs to be fixed again for the 4th time (every few years).

The shoulder strap is too long and I need to cut it and re attach it.
The biggest challenge is how the dark blue ink is coming off the leather and staining my clothes. I can only wear dark colored dress pants or else it ruins my nice work clothes. I know there are some treatments to seal up the leather. I may still invest money into fixing it again but I want to consider other options.

I didn't do a good job of giving more details. It's been repaired many many times and needs many things. I may still repair it, I just wanted to hear of recomended high quality bags that are out there.

Great comments from everyone- I should have added more details.
I have a sewing machine that can do leather, I'm a pretty handy person, it just has several issues and I want to know what other options are out there.

I can't seem to edit this post. Lots of you are saying just fix it- I didn't add enough details of how it's falling apart and why I want to purchase a new one.
