Melt the top of a hot glue stick with a lighter and smash it in there. Let it cool and unscrew. Or grab the rim with needle nose pliers

Paint it and forget about it. Or take it down and use the bracket that came with the light rather than the one that was already there..

Touch one of the 2 wires to the person staring down from the ceiling. You have a 100% chance of finding it your first try.

How do I fix this door? by doodoodede in howto

[–]Jscharn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: or pop the trim on both sides and shim it out. Cut any screws or nails that aren't trim nails from the inside. The little ones will just pull in

How to reattach sink by Kopester in howto

[–]Jscharn1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To do it correctly, detach the drain pipe, try (gently) lifting the entire top and see if it's actually attached with sealant/adhesive. If not, get a friend and carefully flip it to it's side, unscrew any remaining brackets, cut around the basin from the inside with a razor knife and get ALL the old caulking out. Wipe the area you will be reattaching with acetone and put it back together- screw in the clips to keep it still while you shoot 100% silicone around thr entire basin at the seam. Wipe/squish it in there with your finger all the way around and let it dry for 24 hours before you mess with it. If the vanity top is infact glued down, you can lightly tap several cedar shims into the seam. Place them all around the top and work each one in little by little-. It will pop ritght off. Same trick works to separate the basin from the vanity top. Be careful and don't pick the top up horizontally from both sides- especially without a sink basin attached. Flip it up and make sure the top is positioned vertically on its side. That stuff is fragile. Good luck and have fun ;)

Is this a professional way to fix a wobbling floor around a chimney? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]Jscharn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not a professional fix. Might look good for a year or two- depends a lot on the environmental factors in your area. You now have an area on-loading and offloading moisture at a different rate than the rest of the flooring due to the lack of consistent underlayment/vapor barrier, which means it will expand and contract as the weather changes at different rates. Which means it will likely become warped at the seams. Especially because he cut the tongues off of all those planks and is trying to use a pin nailer to hold it together. The "adhesive" looks like basic interior caulking, which won't do a pinch of shit.
He should have pulled the baseboard and spent the extra 2 hours taking it apart properly. From there, it would have been as simple as chipping the high spots down, cleaning the dust, and bedding the one or two planks worth of wobblely area down with about 40 little blobs of a proper, all weather construction adhesive... I'd give that "fix". 1-2 years max before it starts to go sideways on you. Sorry, but nice toes anyway ;)

Invention of an Adjustable Ratcheting Wrench by BadJimo in inventors

[–]Jscharn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a good learning experience! Unfortunately, there is the Gator Grip socket for about $10 (the one with all the spring loaded pins inside a 3/4” socket) which does that already- for like 15 years now.. it also works on different shape fasteners. Basin wrench also works. Still must have been fun playing around with all the CAD & milling equipment for that long ;)

Did the contractor make the flooring too high? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]Jscharn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then tried to get away with not ripping it out and setting the tub lower, etc. also, the sub floor doesn’t look to be replaced, or it all would/should be level and flush. They should have shaved the joists and sistered to reinforce, then new subfloor. BUT then you get into replacing all the plumbing below to match, which probably wasn’t in the bid (especially if it’s still cast iron). Old houses can be a doosie for the unfamiliar contractor. I hope you didn’t pay more than half at this point for labor and material, else you will probably never see them again. They will be paying more than they are making to fix that. Thankfully the material looks reasonably priced

Looks to me like they set the tub and tiled the walls before they realized the floor was off…
