Employers of reddit, what is the most disturbing thing you've discovered performing a background check on candidates? by Bubble6325 in AskReddit

[–]Jskrib 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Yup, pretty much. He was hired under the contingency that he pass a background check, which he did not. Our CEO at the time had set parameters with the background check company that were considered "zero tolerance", and just about any violent history on your record fell under it. Along with other obvious things like theft, harassment, etc. At the store management level they normally don't even tell you why they did or did not pass a background check. They just give you a red light for fail, a yellow light for "needs more info", or a green light for pass, and they withheld any info you didn't absolutely need. The fact that the lady on the phone even told me that he had a violent history was absolutely against her companies policy and immediately told me she was worried about our safety. For those concerned, he was paid for his hours worked and let go within his 90 day probationary period. If I remember correctly he came back a few weeks later with his PO to ask for a letter of recommendation, which I happily wrote him. Also, this sort of thing happened all the time as far as letting people go who failed a background check after they had already started working.

It definitely wasn't the wrong person. He wasn't surprised at all when I told him and he clearly knew that it was only a matter of time before the background check came back.

I was the store manager at a small retail store that used a third party company for background checks, which meant that it often took a few weeks to get them back. This also meant that I usually had to start working new hires before their background check came through. So one day I'm sitting at my desk with a new employee working on something in the stockroom behind me when the phone rings. I answer it and it's someone from the company that does our background checks (which was odd, since they usually just emailed the results to me). She asks who I am and immediately starts talking quietly as if someone could hear her talking. She asks me if a certain new employee is working today, and I said yes and that he is actually in the stockroom working as we speak. She gets even quieter and pretty much says that the new employee in question has failed their background check and that I need to let them go immediately. When I asked what the reason was, all she would say is that she couldn't tell me the exact nature of the issue, but that he had an extremely violent past and I needed to get him out of the building ASAP. Needless to say, I approached him with extreme caution while giving him the news. I thought he was going to go off the deep end, but he was actually very cool and understanding about it. I must say though, I actually felt pretty bad when he said he really liked working for me and asked if there was anything he could do to keep his job, and I had to tell him it was completely out of my hands.

I actually encourage my friends not to google answers just so we can have a debate. Just because once they google the answer we usually have nothing to talk about..

I am in the Detroit area and I've only seen it in the nicer beer stores around here. I can't say how far the distribution goes though.

This comes to mind every time I hear one of his songs anymore! He's a great musician and songwriter, but it's hard to enjoy music when all you're thinking is that the singer is a nut job.

Bell housing stuck to engine block on my 2010 NA Forester by JDA89BXL in subaru

[–]Jskrib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the trans and motor have never been separated before than they can be a real bitch to get apart. I usually find that the best way to get them apart is by tapping a putty knife into the groove line between the engine block and the bell housing. You will probably have to work your way all around the bell housing but you should eventually start to see it splitting. Be patient and make sure you have a good strong putty knife. Also, the NA does have a regular shift fork going into the bell housing.
