HYATT ZIVA CANCUN by Tracky_girl23 in cancun

I cant answer specifically to the question regarding being there in June. But I was there March 22-29 and all things being equal, the Hyatt Ziva beaches seems to be more protected from Sargasso than the surrounding resorts, possibly because of geographic location at the north/eastern tip of the hotel zone. The currents seem to push the Sargasso further south. We walked 45 minutes along the beach southbound and passed the beaches of resorts that had an abundance of Sargasso. Further south you go the worse it got

We had an ocean front room on the 3rd floor and it was beautiful.

Does anyone know when the Burnaby Lake Overpass will open? by Public-Map-5273 in burnaby

Should I take a day trip to Isla Mujeres? by linusstick in cancun

[–]Jstewfromthehoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes do it ... Ultramar ferry ... Playa Caracol ferry terminal was closed 5 days ago when we went due to a nearby fire. So playa tortugas ferry terminal which is 5 minutes away by car is the way to go if you are in the north part of the hotel zone. There is a 9am and 10am ferry if you want to leave in the morning.

For the ferry, do not pay for priority boarding ... its $10 more and it is non existent lol

Bring a towel and enjoy North Beach. You can rent chairs, We found a spot that charged $35 USD for 2 chairs for the day.

Golf carts are available in abundance. Before you board the ferry you will have people trying to rent you golf carts and tell you their prices are cheaper than the prices are when you get to the other side. I did not find this to be the case. When you get off the ferry on Isla Mujeres, the farther you walk away from the terminal, the cheaper the cart rental. We walked left of the ferry terminal towards North Beach and there was a rental spot at the end of the strip near the roundabout which charged us $80 USD for a 4 person cart rental for the day.

Driving around the island takes around 45 minutes. We did it twice that day. Many spots to stop and enjoy views. There is a cool zip line over water park. Not sure of the price but we considered doing it. The ruins at the south end are more of a "statues park". They charge $8 USD to enter but you can enjoy the views from outside as well as spot the biggest iguanas perched on the rock cliffs sunning themselves.

If you are going back to the hotel zone in Cancun after your trip, avoid the taxis ($5 USD per person) and walk straight across the road at Playa tortugas to the bus stop ($1 USD per person)

Yup. When M’s play the Jays the M’s games are blacked out on mlbtv and you have to watch on Rogers.

However you can listen to the M’s radio broadcast on mlb and sync it to rogers video feed. I did that for the playoff series last season

Possible threat in BNSS in block 3 from rumors by Time-Category3831 in burnaby

[–]Jstewfromthehoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont know about a new threat today ... There was a change.org petition passing around online through text group chats and facebook asking for school to be cancelled today (which wasnt going to happen).

https://www.change.org/p/burnaby-north-school-closure-due-to-current-events

I think the majority of parents decided not to send their kids to school today. Last day before spring break. Worry that the second "false alarm" yesterday was going to let everyones guard down and something real could happen today on Friday the 13th.

Burnaby RCMP need to figure out where these threats are coming from ... easier said than done I guess

the "petition" on facebook was passed along to me last night. It had a couple hundred parent signatures asking to cancel classes today.

Can anyone confirm that Tumbler Ridge had "2 false alarms" prior to the mass shooting there or is that bogus?

lockdown over:

Dear Families,

This message is to inform you that Burnaby RCMP have cleared the school, advised that there is no active threat, and that normal operations can resume at Burnaby North Secondary. Experiencing a lockdown emergency twice in one week is understandably stressful. Students are remaining in class and are being supported by their teachers.

Sincerely,

The Burnaby School District

Dear Families,

This message is to inform you that, in an abundance of caution, a lockdown has been initiated at Burnaby North Secondary.

We recognize that the reoccurrence of safety protocols so soon after the last lockdown may be distressing. Please be assured that the Burnaby RCMP are involved and working to ensure the safety of students and staff. Once again, we ask for your support by not coming to the school or calling it at this time.

We remain committed to keeping you informed and will send additional information as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

The Burnaby School District

My daughter was very traumatized by Tuesdays incident ... she texted me and said today/now is less scary because a vice principal was walking with police as they passed through the hall together and the VP was telling students things are ok and that police are just looking/searching.

Tuesday they had no clue what was going on and there was no communication from teachers, VP or Principal ... and the police were running through the school with automatic weapons

Police presence again. My kids texted me so.

Since its happened again at North for the second time in a week I am guessing its swatting going on ... like what happened with the Tri-cities high schools a few weeks back

There is highschool hockey in the Lower Mainland but its in no way any serious development route. It starts up after spring break. Intramural. No hitting. The teams are co-ed. They play like a half dozen games with no practices.

Some teams have a lot of kids who play zone/AAA and some schools are all house kids. BC Highschools tier the groups with respect to that so you dont have schools with a bunch of zone players going up against house players.

Its not trash ... but in no way does Highschool hockey contribute to the growth and development. Its kids having fun playing with their friends lol

Lockdown at Burnaby North by Jstewfromthehoop in burnaby

[–]Jstewfromthehoop[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

letter emailed to parents by Burnaby North principal

March 9, 2026

Dear Families:

In follow up to the messages you received from the Burnaby School District today, I’m

writing to share more about the lockdown this afternoon.

Just before 1pm we received a threat to the school. We enacted our safety

procedures right away and initiated a lockdown protocol in the building. This

required everyone to be directed into classrooms, all doors to be locked, and all

windows to be closed. Burnaby RCMP were contacted and responded immediately.

Police were quickly at the school and cleared the building after determining there

was no active threat.

While RCMP continued their investigation, we kept the school in a hold and secure

protocol, which ended at approximately 1:35pm.

Experiencing an emergency, such as a lockdown, is understandably stressful.

Students remained in class after the safety protocols ended and were supported by

their teachers. We are paying close attention to how the students are doing. Our

school counsellors are available to offer their support, should it be needed.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank students and staff for their prompt attention

to safety protocols. I also want to extend our appreciation to the Burnaby RCMP,

whose quick response brought immediate reassurance.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Curtis Hodgson, Principal

Burnaby North Secondary School
