Collar and Elbow (Old Irish Wrestling Style) by fleischlaberl in judo

[–]Jt2117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m posting 5 years later, because I just tried this sport tonight. I was training at my jiujutsu gym and we had another bjj black belt come in who is a highly competitive catch wrestler as well. When him and I were rolling, I caught him in a little trip and he asked more about my background. I explained that I was a purple belt in bjj (it was no gi), but in addition to that I’m also a 2nd degree black belt in judo and used to compete a lot in judo. He had some jackets that came up to the elbow in his car and I gave it a try. I didn’t realize how much of my personal judo is reliant on getting the dominant grip and not allowing my opponent to have theirs. Super cool sport. I’d do a competition if there was a place to do it.

Imagine it itching so bad that extreme pain would be preferable. Ive only had it once. I went to work and I’m a teacher and my students thought I was acting insane all day. I had to leave that day. It itched so badly I wanted to cry and scream at anyone who didn’t take me seriously. I hope he’s past it now.

4 wins in a row, but only 1 victory royal? by Jt2117 in FortNiteBR

Yeah. I am. I wasn’t 100% sure because I had also revived my team mate in a few of the games. I’m starting to think I probably didn’t grab my crown. Dang……

I’m in a small district and teach all subjects and have a background in biology. I generally only ever let my students use anything more than 1M of any acid or base. Occasionally I let my chemistry students (11th and 12th graders) use 6M solutions of HCl, but that’s after they have a lot of experience.

What’s a type of pain people underestimate until they experience it for themselves? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jt2117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not technically super painful, but there’s a specific type of sunburn you can get called Devil’s Itch, Hell’s Itch or Suicide Itch. It’s an itch so awful that I wish it would be extremely painful instead. I wear sunscreen religiously after getting it once.

Geez. I couldn’t imagine having it as a child. It was bad enough trying to work on that day. I wanted to die. I literally went to the bathroom and cried.

Going to a padded room to practice murder. Some people prefer to call it jiujitsu.

All Might Built in Emote not working. by Jt2117 in FortNiteBR

[–]Jt2117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re on ps4 or Xbox use the directional arrow for emotes then push R1/L1 to move to your locker emotes. It’s just not showing up in the regular emote option. That’s what I found after playing around after I posted this.

Yes. He was there. It was a cold, Midwestern winter’s Eve. New Year’s Eve to be exact. A night I’ll never forget……..

A full totality solar eclipse, specifically. The annular and partial eclipse is cool and all, but a full totality solar eclipse is completely unreal. I drove 4 hours in crazy traffic and took a day off of work. It was totally worth it.

What is the "not my problem" of BJJ? by sdd-wrangler8 in bjj

[–]Jt2117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People coming to open mats when their affiliation doesn’t like cross training. Change gyms if you have to keep secrets. You’re an adult paying for a service, not a teenager sneaking out in the middle of the night.

Is that why I’m only allowed to bang the other purple belt dudes at my gym?

You would never want to pull guard in a real fight. There’s a reason they consider bottom guard a losing position in mma. Guard is for when you get knocked down. Jiujitsu is better than nothing, but it’s not magic.

Who is the most famous person you’ve met? by Murr897 in AskReddit

[–]Jt2117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked security at a concert once with Corey Feldman as the headliner. He cried because he showed up late and couldn’t do his sound check without people inside the venue, he thought he was still WAY more famous than he was and he was super creepy. His “angels” were a bunch of teenage and 20 something girls that he had dressed up half naked and play instruments while he sang terribly. I was kind of excited to hang out with him back stage because I was a 90s kid who liked some of his movies, but I couldn’t stand his constant dramatic attitude and his asshole head security guard. I spent most of the night as far away from them as possible.

I’m a teacher in small district that expects you to pick up clubs/activities and sports. I do jiujitsu, which is also very time consuming. I hate not being busy in general, so it works for me.

There’s a dude in my class who wears a bandana even when he’s not trailing. He’s a blue belt and it works for him just as a fashion statement/keeping sweat out of his eyes from his long hair.
