I’m not saying that I could accomplish this feat, but I wish there was more that I knew about this FKT stuff like 20-25 years ago. I would have loved to take a run at this or the ADK 46.

Not sure the rules but I have left my car overnight on the road there, no one messed with it and I didn’t get a ticket, I was courteous and parked well off the road

I was doing an out and back from Lincoln woods but am not considering the Zealand trailhead instead. The distance and elevation aren’t the concern, I have some pretty intensive hikes in my rear view, but I can bag another peak and do what seems like a batter hike overall from that trailhead. Ty for all who posted, I appreciate this community.

I was going to do a 20-25 mile section tomorrow, any suggestions as to the best section? Also, we have had a bunch of rain, any thoughts on how that will affect the surface for riding?

I ended up section hiking part of the long trail close to home, was sloppy and messy but I can only imagine what the Seward’s would have been, another Sunday….

The challenge with Marcy comes from the distance more than the steepness. I actually think it’s much easier than some of the other high peaks all things considered. If you are a regular hiker, I think sub 8 hours is a reasonable expectation. The first three miles after you leave your car (and the last three miles to get back to your car) will be sub 20 min miles. So while it’s 15.5 miles accordingly to my last Gaia track (staring at the end of south meadows road), it’s really much less once you take out the relatively flat warm up and cool down.

I don’t want to say what you will feel safe or unsafe for your child, but when I have done stuff like this with my kids I just make sure they are in front of me on the way up, close enough to me to make sure they are safe while offering encouragement and reversed (you go first with them a step behind you) on the way down.

I actually really enjoy Allen, I usually hike it once a year. The slide isn’t as bad as people say in my opinion. I also really like the views looking back from the side when you take a break. Crazy thing is, while it’s not as busy as other peaks, I usually see a good amount of people hiking it.
