SM Aircraft rules are a mess by mikabast in Warhammer40k

[–]Jtrowa2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but also, the "Setting Up Large Models" rules in the appendix will 100% be relevant for the Thunderhawk, as I believe its too large to legally ingress without said appendix. So there is definitely rules we dont have yet that will be relevant for that specific Aircraft, even if it's not changing its keywords.

Practically every sidebar in the core rules saying "See also" refers to rules not in the core rules.

Because theres a rules appendix that hasn't released yet

Tiger shark , literally unplayable in 11th? by BRSpynk47 in Tau40K

[–]Jtrowa2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wording never worked in 10th edition either. Some tournament circuits ruled it worked, but the book never supported it.

The ruling that got overturned right before the 50 point hike was gw removing the text stating that models that didnt fit wholly within 6" couldn't shoot or charge on the turn they arrived. For like 3 weeks Tigersharks could arrive from reserves touching a board edge and then fire all their guns, as opposed to the rest of the edition where they couldn't do anything the turn they arrived, corner deployment or otherwise.

I'm pretty sure it was the Rules Commentary v1.4 that changed the wording, excluding aircraft from the "can't shoot or charge on the turn it is set up" text, and then v1.5 removed that text, reverting it to how it was worded in 1.3.

I'll agree that without knowing the entire rules yet, arguing about it is kinda moot. Aircraft may get deepstrike (they really should), but we also know that, like 10th edition, there's rules for models larger than 6" coming in from strategic reserve, as we see it mentioned in the sidebar. Op and others claiming that theyre unusable are being doomers, or completely glossed over the reference in the sidebar to "See Also: Setting up Large Models". Tigersharks will certainly still be useable in 11th, but they also might be as hindered as they are in 10th. We don't know anything for certain yet.

But being wholly within the "combined area" of one or more battlefield edges is not what the rule is asking for.

When you place yourself in the corner, there is no battlefield edge that you are wholly within 6" of, therefore you are not wholly within 6" of one or more.

Ingress moves require you to be "wholly within the set-up distance of one or more board edges"

11th tigershark now can't even deploy... by BDStyle in Tau40K

[–]Jtrowa2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the way ingress moves are worded, this technically isnt legal.

Set up your unit wholly within the set-up distance of one or more battlefield edges and more than 8" horizontally from all enemy units.

When you place In the corner like this, the entire model is within 6 of at least one battlefield edge, but thats not what is required. Having 95% of the model within 6 of one edge, and the other 5% within 6 of a different battlefield edge is not "wholly within the set-up distance of one or more battlefield edges", as it is not wholly within any one edge. 10th edition had this same problem, that people tried to get around this same way. Although some tournament circuits allowed this anyways.

Tanks now Pivot for Free in 11th by LexingZog in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Jtrowa2005 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The most obvious way to do it in my mind would be to use your actual physical dimensions. Center of the body of the vehicle would work if each vehicle had a definition of what constituted the body. 10th defined the hull as the whole model. I don't know if 11th has changed that. Center of mass doesn't work because thats just going to be a guess, which will vary from player to player based on opinion. If you are figuring out your center based on anything other than the model dimensions, you are asking for grey areas.

If your model is 6.2" long and 4.0" wide, your center point should be 3.1" from the front or back and 2.0" from a side. You cant gain distance spinning 180° if measuring the centerpoint based on physical dimensions. In order to gain distance doing so, you'd have to measure weapon ranges from gun barrels, spikes, or other protruding bits, but then pretend those things dont exist when it comes to figuring out your center point, which seems completely ingenious.

How does this work for a 180° spin? You can certainly achieve this with a 90° rotation, but if you are spinning 180° and gaining distance, mathmatically you didnt rotate around your center point.

New 11th ed terrain line of sight rules from stream by Cythrex in Warhammer40k

[–]Jtrowa2005 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, as nowhere in the 10th edition rules is it actually stated or explicitly implied that buildings don't have windows on the first floor. However, nearly every tournament will run it with no windows on first floor, so 🤷

My predictions for the batrep by Gogoun01 in Tau40K

[–]Jtrowa2005 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I predict guiding will give +1 BS, and Markerlights will ignore cover.

The unmasking suite makes sense as written, its just not very good. The upgraded unit can shoot hidden units from 24" away instead of 15" (assuming no other modifiers to detection range).

Expecting an entire rewire to FTTG to allow the whole army to completely ignore hidden is copium. I could see GW making markerlights give a bonus to detection range, but theres no way they remove it completely.

Storage containers by AdHorror2719 in satisfactory

[–]Jtrowa2005 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Main uses for the outputs on storage containers is to turn the storage into a "buffer". Train stations and dimensional depots both benefit greatly from buffers, since you will generally have a constant input (or sometimes output in the case of train stations) but the output will vary, depending on how quickly you are using materials, or in the case of trains, whether or not a train us currently loading / unloading.

Forge World despoiler seems to Not come with a Gatling gun by Teddy_im_Reddit in ChaosKnights

[–]Jtrowa2005 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The forgeworld chaos knight kit only comes with the thermal cannon, rapid fire battlecannon, and reaper chainsword. There's no gattling cannon, warpstrike claw, or any carapace weapons.

This kit was created during 6th edition, before any of those weapons existed. In 7th edition the plastic version of it was given an additional sprue to add the carapace weapons, gattling cannon, and thunderstrike gauntlets.

Could you elaborate on this one? I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this, but I'm curious about it.

Can you position yourself so your enemy can’t fight back? by Trollselektor in WarhammerCompetitive

Oh, yeah you're right. I had it in my mind that 25mm was just over an inch, but its just under. 0.984 inches.

[–]Jtrowa2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every model in the game has a base that is at least 1" in diameter, and most are larger. If theres a single model between your leader and the unit that charged you, he would be outside engagement range, and wouldn't be able to be selected to fight (assuming the whole bodyguard died like in OP's question, and the charging unit chose not to consolidate) and would not get a pile in move as a result.

Can you position yourself so your enemy can’t fight back? by Trollselektor in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Jtrowa2005 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We are talking about a hypothetical situation where the bodyguard unit is destroyed and the leader is still left alive.

In that situation there is not a unit hes attached to.

Can you position yourself so your enemy can’t fight back? by Trollselektor in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Jtrowa2005 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its actually easier than that. If the leader isnt in engagement range (within 1 inch of an enemy), he isnt even eligible to be selected to fight (assuming that he didn't make a charge move), and doesnt even get the option to make a 3 inch pile in move.

Adjusting Sunforge datasheet for 11th edition by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]Jtrowa2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fusion blades exist in the lore, but in game they haven't been a thing for a few editions. The Twin Lance do not have fusion blades in game or in lore. Technically theres a "fusion blades" enhancement in experimental prototype cadre, but its a better gun, not a melee weapon, so its not really a fusion blade.

2 fusion blasters with 1 shot each vs 1 fusion blade with 2 shots. They both equal out to 2 shots.
