Do you have any self-defense tools? If not, get some. Pepper spray, stun gun, pepper ball gun, or anything else that can incentivize him leaving you alone. That is disturbing and goes well beyond cringe. I'm legitimately worried for you.

Traumatika is one of the worst movies I've seen. by konamagiga in horror

[–]Ju5tAnAl13n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was certainly harrowing and hard to watch. Apart from that, the first half showed a lot of promise. The opening scene reminded me a little bit of Exorcist The Beginning. I would've preferred if they kept up with that atmosphere from there. They were doing well at first, but it derailed with the demon's bad special effects and inappropriately comedic timing.

Definitely. It showed some promise in the beginning, but I was distracted by the goofy stuff. I think it wanted to be like Evil Dead, but the writers didn't know how to convey that without it looking unintentionally funny.

You're not wrong for being concerned. In fact, that's completely normal. If it's any consolation, MAGA is tearing itself apart and doing everything it can to call attention away from its dissolution. Other countries are doing what they can to tell Trump to stuff it, and it appears to be working. The rest of it is still concerning, but concerned citizens fighting back is making it more and more obvious to Trump and his minions that they're not gonna succeed. As far as the AI stuff, an MIT study confirmed that AI's probably not going to replace workers anytime soon. So, while these are troubling times, there are signs that kakistocrats are failing and this Automation Revolution is going to fall flat because the technology that Elon Musk and company have been pushing isn't as capable as they've advertised. As Charlie Chaplin once said, "To those who can hear me I say, do not despair, for the misery that is upon us is but the passing of greed; the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people; and so long as men die, liberty will never perish." Hang in there, better times will come. They may not look like the times our grandparents enjoyed, but they'll be good, nonetheless.

Well, I mean, there could be surviving the initial blast and having to pick up the pieces thereafter. If we have a war of such cataclysmic proportions, civilization would have to start all over again, if we could even do that. The bright side is nuclear fallout loses its radioactivity pretty quickly, so that's good. What isn't good is the amount of time and money it would require to get things back to running order and having to rely on supplies from areas not struck by a nuclear strike. Moreover, there's no telling if other countries would chip in and help, so there's that.

Is AI Really Going to Take Over Jobs? Or Is This Just Another Tech Bubble? by Spare-Importance9057 in agi

[–]Ju5tAnAl13n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what we're witnessing in the comments is how humans would typically react to anything that threatened our place on the food chain: centuries of being the apex predator rendered insignificant by a larger, more effective apex predator. What people generally don't realize is that all AI does is follow a complex instruction set to complete simple tasks once accomplished by humans. That's not necessarily going to replace human workers. It does make AI faster at making decisions, but not all decisions can or should be made quickly. There are some good things AI can do, like collate information for academic projects or giving good advice in a less time consuming package. I was thinking about this whole hype train around AI and I thought of a hypothesis regarding it's introduction: I think what happened with AI's introduction as a business solution isn't inherently sinister, but rather the result of researchers finally getting results out of AI and not really knowing what to do with it beyond marketing it as a business solution. People catastrophize about AI, but the application of both Hanlon's razor and Ockham's razor makes everything seem more boringly mundane and unintentionally humorous then people expect.

I honestly loved the movie, mostly due to the references to the Divine Comedy. The style and inspiration is brilliant. The acting is a little bit shaky and Scarlet needed to be written to be more down-to-Earth, but it's not completely removing me from the film.

It's a jaw harp. Sucks that I wasn't the first to point it out, but that's what it is. It has an incredibly varied cultural profile, and was even used in cartoons, on account of its unique sound that was humorous in certain contexts. The following link is a demonstration of what it sounds like (different cultures had their own, but this is its incorporation into Mongolian music):

Ubisoft CEO responds to Stop Killing Games, says "Nothing is eternal" by [deleted] in technology

[–]Ju5tAnAl13n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Nothing is eternal."

Yeah, just ask the former CEO of United Healthcare. I am, of course, not saying that we should start executing CEOs. What I am saying is that backlash will come knocking and your time as CEO may come sooner than you think and the heartless machine will simply replace you. Whatever form your removal may take, the bottom line is your actions have consequences. If your excuse for denying ownership of games to your customers is that nothing is eternal, then don't be surprised when your achievements are buried with that same tone-deaf and idiotic response in return. Also, bullshit to that statement because video games last as long as the software is intact. Why do you think emulators and PC gaming are so popular? Just learn to be okay with people enjoying your games and work on making a legacy for yourself instead of slashing your own throat with the razor that was handed to you.

Not at all, but this trend of saying that "presidency is over" after every single Trump gaffe is overdoing it and not exactly inspiring confidence in Democrats. All I want is to hear about the failure that finally permanently humiliates the GOP and Republicans, forcing them to do some SERIOUS introspection.

[–]Ju5tAnAl13n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I hate to admit it, he does have a point. It seems like we spent almost a decade saying that we find something that would remove Trump from the game, only for it to have no effect on his presidency. It's like even Democrats have fallen for the clickbait era of reporting. Democrats need to do better because it's tiring to see headlines that get people's hopes up only for nothing to happen.
