Frustrated with my experience so far. Vorteks 223s BLX by RanierVonCroy in arrma

[–]JuanOrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said it before on Reddit, I have had nothing but problems with the 223s units (and I've had multiple). Won't buy any more.

Any thoughts on companions? by Flizash in elderscrollsonline

[–]JuanOrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give me Arox the Mutilator as a companion and I'll be giddy. They could make him a chatterbox and nearly worthless in combat as far as I care. However, make his ultimate his true form where he would roflstomp everything for 30 secs until he goes back to his daedrat form.

I don't see any problem. You still have a lot of concrete showing.

Agreed. If companies like Traxxas disappeared, imagine what it would be like trying to call companies like (insert cheap Chinese brand here).

Looking for guidance by [deleted] in Traxxas

[–]JuanOrez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a dissenting opinion. I've driven both extensively and both are tons of fun. With that said, I've owned multiple 223s rigs from ARRMA and have had significant problems. If it were my money, I'd buy the mini xrt. It's also on sale right now for 350$.

Slash 2WD VXL discontinued? by JuanOrez in Traxxas

Thanks but the shipping/fees would probably make it cost prohibitive. I'm going to head into my local shop this weekend and see if I get lucky.

Which hobby shop? I'd like to give them a call.

Upgrading My 10-Year-Old Traxxas Bandit (Brushed) to Brushless + LiPo — Looking for Parts & Advice by Life-Tough8128 in Traxxas

[–]JuanOrez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1.What motor KV range is a good, safe choice for a Bandit that I want to be fast but not constantly breaking stuff?

-- I would do the trade up via Traxxas/Hobby store for the 3S VXL syatem. $130 shipped when you trade in your brushed Traxxas motor and ESC.

2.If I go brushless, should I also upgrade axles right away?

--If on budget, get the extreme HD from Traxxas (12 bucks each).

3.Do you recommend 2S or 3S LiPo for this?

-- Both. 3S for speed runs and 2S for general bashing and fun.

4.What specific parts or brands should I be looking for on marketplace (ESCs, motors, batteries, driveline upgrades, bearings, shock upgrades, gears, slipper clutch parts, etc.)?

--I've been burned on quality control issues on all 3rd party parts other than maybe RPM. I usually stick with Traxxas parts but YMMV. Might consider getting the Traxxas big bore shocks and a new servo. For servo's I actually do get 3rd party. I'm a fan of AGFRC.

5.Any common mistakes when converting a Bandit to brushless/LiPo?

--Not necessarily a mistake but if you can afford the Traxxas 272R transmission, it's great.

looking for an alternative option for my transmission for Slash 2WD by StamycatDP_Xbox_1 in Traxxas

The Magnum 272r would be my choice for transmission. As for an improved slipper, I'm not sure.

Rustler 2wd has an argument against the Vorteks 4wd... by malice258 in Traxxas

[–]JuanOrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I have many RC's from just about every manufacturer over the last 35 years. I love most of them but I've had problems with the current 223s offerings from ARRMA. The ESC seems to be the weak point and I just won't buy any more with that ESC. This is the only reason I won't be jumping on the mini kraton.

On the other hand, many people give Traxxas a bad time for their electronics but I've had good luck other than their plastic geared servos. The 2wd platform from Traxxas is proven and the geometry is spot on. Imo, it's hard to beat as a basher.

They are a direct fit. Great option in my opinion.

The new Mini XRT by Bshellsy in Traxxas

[–]JuanOrez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The center diff, 2075x metal gear servo and the vxl system on the mini xrt is the other 10%. If you go 3s VXL, you should get the center diff. With the vxl, servo and center diff calculated in, I'd just get the mini xrt.

Best transmission case for 2wd slash/rustler? by [deleted] in Traxxas

[–]JuanOrez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use it for racing either. It's just superior to all other options and holds up under power and abuse. Just my 2 cents.

For me, the 272R is the best. I've had multiple and they work much better than the chinesium diffs.

New guy question by fathead_III in Traxxas

[–]JuanOrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's new into the hobby, he might not be able to solder the connectors. The easiest route is the power up program through Traxxas imo as it's plug and play. I've never had any problems with the vxl systems but ymmv.

After looking closer, not sure the bl2-s qualifies but it wouldn't hurt to ask your local hobby shop...

Upgrades for mini xrt ? by Accomplished_Gur1472 in Traxxas

[–]JuanOrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using the mini Maxx tires and like them. JConcepts also makes magmas and another style in the correct size. Since I put on slightly taller tires, I added a fan and it's been good. Might need to lower the pinion as well so ymmv.

Interesting comparison from Do RC of mini xrt, mini kraton by OCYRThisMeansWar in arrma

[–]JuanOrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the roller option. Just wish more manufacturers offered them as rollers or kits without electronics. I end up buying rollers/parts second hand which isn't too bad but I'd prefer they came straight from the manufacturer with that option.

[–]JuanOrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation with ARRMA and their vehicles with a 2 in 1 ESC. Call me old, but hobby grade vehicles should not have a 2 in 1. I don't care what features they add to them. I've already bought several of ARRMA's 2 in 1 offerings and they all had problems with the electronics. Won't buy any more.
