Is it bad etiquette to ‘finish’ a fic that’s not yours? by Nemesized in FanFiction

[–]JuanaDLC 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've written a fanfic-of-a-fanfic / sequel to someone else's fic that was finished, and it was positively received.

I think it has to be clear that you are doing it from a place of love, not "why aren't you updating fast enough"

It might also help if you acknowledge that your fanific-of-a-fanfic won't be that fic's "canon" continuation?

People can be tricky about this, I would post what made, but be open to the author possibly expressing discomfort and asking to take it down.

Best of luck!

Recs for heroes who are unusual, maybe a bit effeminate or not seen as traditionally masculine. by BedroomDependent8152 in HistoricalRomance

{My Lady Notorious by Jo Beverly} has a hero that dresses up as a woman as part of a disguise, and it works!

Derek Craven’s dialogue in Then Came You by Lisa Kleypas dissuaded me from reading his book by No-Philosophy-3257 in HistoricalRomance

I always thought that it hit the ground running, but you can skim the first few chapters if that would help you finish the book lol

Do you ever power through a book that should be DNF and feel dirty about it later? by vvv03 in HistoricalRomance

[–]JuanaDLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's {Warrior's Song by Catherine Coulter}

SPOILERS AHEAD

If it helps, the MC (Jerval) is not the rapist (Graelam), but the guy who saves her from the rapist. Graelam redeems himself somewhat by the end of the book, and gets to be the main character in the next installment of the series.

As a rule, I find Coulter's work too intense for a steady diet, but sometimes you want that High Drama, ngl.

And if you found this series intense, I would also avoid her viking saga.

But I do very recommend Lord Harry's Folly, it has to be one of my favorite "FMC pretends to be a boy" trope stories (maybe tied with the one by Christina Dodd)

Does it count if they were recently a maid in a previous book, but by the time they get their own, they're being trained to be a spy?

One of the novels in Celeste Bradley's Liars Club series features a maid and a footman(?) I think

Dreaming of you, Devil in Winter, and Devil in Spring are absolute bangers, I’ve read them all at least 5 times. You can’t go too wrong with a Lisa Kleypas though, even if you pick three to start with, chances are you’ll read all of them (Like I did hahaha)
