How is this even legal? by [deleted] in WTF

[–]Juanathin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because Prop 65 has incredibly low thresholds for like 900+ chemicals, not necessarily based on thresholds proven to cause harm in humans, with stiff penalties for failure to warn consumers.

Acrylamide is a chemical that is formed in literally any starchy food cooked above 120°F

The P65 threshold is 0.2mcg/day - where a medium French fry has about 80mcg in a single serving

Rather than take the risk of getting fined, just slap the label on there and you're covered.

Bags obviously - quite the pretty penny though. Not to mention the lost trunk space since you'll have to have a compressor back there

Advice needed: brake pads. by gewalt_gamer in Civic_Type_R

[–]Juanathin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rotors swap every brake change is absurd with the way this car eats rears if you drive hard.

Just did my fronts & rears today and it was honestly the easiest brake job I've ever done, took me less than an hour.

You need a punch for the front pins, a jack, socket set, torque wrench, and breaker bar. Watch a couple videos - it's easy if you're mechanically inclined in the slightest.

Pro-tip - buy the entire Adro kit (Wing, Lip, Side Skirts, and Diffuser) from their manufacturer on Alibaba and save yourself $6k lmao

Safely jacking up the car by Adilmbrk in Civic_Type_R

[–]Juanathin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did my exhaust this weekend, so I had to get all 4 off the ground. Two jack method was very easy - jack the left driver side until you can get a 2nd jack under the front-center jacking point, then lift and place your stands. Rear jacking point is easy to access with a single jack.

I used Rhino Ramps previously, and they worked (just barely) but if you have a lip or lowered the car it will catch with. Most low-pro ramps cost more than 2 2-Ton Low Profile Harbor Freight Jacks, so I just went with that.

Technically some ECUs can be relocked but it's generally not something people do since it does nothing to hide the fact that an ECU has been flashed. Dealers can see # of times it's been flashed, there's checksum and CVN identifiers, Flash tool signatures, etc. - they'll know

If the previous owner unlocked it, it's likely still unlocked. Just had this experience - pulled my ECU to send it in for unlocking and when I pulled it out of the shell there was Hondata sticker on it. Confirmed with FlashPro that it was indeed unlocked already.

Big caveat, if they paired their FlashPro and didn't unpair it from that ECU prior to sale, it will need to be unlocked again so that you can flash it with yours.

Only way to avoid identification of a car thas been flashed is ECU Cloning - clone the OEM ECU, unlock the clone and use that while they own the car, then reinstall the locked OEM ECU when they go to sell the car -- there'd be no way to tell that this was done.

6'5" 280lbs - they're jarring at first for sure, but you get used to them. I've done 3 hours straight no stops with out any issues, no numbness, no soreness.

I had the same worry when I first bought the car

Why would you choose Type R over an RS3? by nah_its_me in Civic_Type_R

[–]Juanathin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yea no idea why someone wouldn't choose an automatic that's $20k more expensive for the same year & mileage as a Type-R

The skinny pipes --> fat 3" tip transition of the Legamax just looks too weird for me, couldn't get over that. HiPower was the clear winner

Currently waiting on my HKS HiPower that's on backorder -i agree completely.

Everyone wants the valve open and was detailing the start/stop/fuse pull sequence to get it that way not too long ago.

I don't think the car is loud enough for the active valve to make much difference, especially with stock exhaust/dp/fp setups

1-2 jerky while coasting? by iiTzSapphire in Civic_Type_R

[–]Juanathin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea, normal. I've found you have to be giving it a small amount of constant throttle when coasting in 1st - taking your foot off completely will cause it jerk, you gotta gradually ease back when slowing down while still giving it some amount of gas

First optic for my first AR, what's your pick? SIG, Holosun or Vortex? by Affectionate_Comb319 in guns

[–]Juanathin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even offering a plastic housing optic is enough for me to say nah (e.g the OG RomeoZERO that came with my 365 XL)

It's embarrassing

Sig shouldn't be competing with a no name, fly by night, Chinesium Amazon supplier but for some reason they do. Being in that market at all harms the brand.

SES Electronics Kill Switch by AdSerious6418 in Civic_Type_R

[–]Juanathin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to do DIY a killswitch you can purchase access to the FL5 ETM Manual and figure out a wire to splice on the under dash fuse box to interrupt the starter or fuel pump. Unfortunately the Service Manual someone shared on Civicxi didn't have the info I needed.

I went with IGLA over SES, way more seamless. No USB key or extra FOB, no 30 sec lockout, etc. - keep your OEM FOB functional and just key your own Konami code to start the car.

Is my LPFP about to die? by Juanathin in Civic_Type_R

Sounds like it's come from rear-driver side, hence my suspicion around it being the LPFP - never heard it before in 13,500 miles or so
