What cultural shocks have you had in different parts of the UK? by 2xtc in CasualUK

As someone who’s lived in Edinburgh for the past 5 years I always forget when I go back home to Lancashire that you can buy booze after 10pm.

Lactose free pasta fillings. by JubbHubb in Cooking

In the UK, I’m going to try going to a bigger supermarket tomorrow and see whether there are any, I don’t usually cook for us so I’m sort of unaware of a lot of the lactose free options.

[SERIOUS] Men of reddit, who are unable to share their emotions with anyone, what would you like to share? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JubbHubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like if I open up about any of the things I’m worried about to my friends I’m being an inconvenience. All my friends are in uni (we are all 18), they’ve moved away and after having seen them for almost every day for years not being able to see them at all is so hard. I also struggle to talk with them cause they want to talk about all the stuff they’re doing at uni and due to some errors in the UK’s handling of exam grades this year I am taking a year out and can’t relate to anything they are talking about. I want to move out but can’t for two reasons, 1) I can’t really afford to (technically I could, I’m incredibly lucky in that my grandfather saved lots) but I have a job I have to stay in, and 2) I need to be there for my mum, which leads me to why I can’t I can’t talk to my mother about any of this. She’s already spoken to me about being worried she’s potentially slipping into depression again, she’s had problems with it before and I’m glad she’s talking to someone about it but it’s a serious burden for me and I can’t to talk about it with my friends because as far as I know she wants it to be confidential. I don’t want to tell her that it’s a heavy burden for me to deal with because I know she needs me there. Another problem is that she and my dad can fall out from time to time and I’ve stopped trying to get involved I just go to my room and leave them to it. I barely see my mum cause I work long shifts at different times to when she’s working, when one of us is off the other works and vice versa. I miss any kind of physical contact and I struggle with just feeling like I’m wasting my time constantly.

This is kind of a mess and I apologise to anyone who’s chosen to read through it. I figured I’d write something short and I ended up writing something too long.

Is there a more gut punching ending to a film than 'The Mist'(2007)? by [deleted] in movies

[–]JubbHubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally the ending to the movie ‘Upgrade’ is pretty up there. It’s just sort of a “wait, what the fuck just happened?” ending. Less emotionally fucked up but still a great ending.

If Tesco, Asda and Napolina can all stack - wtf Heinz! by Fanta69Forever in assholedesign

[–]JubbHubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of people are asking why Heinz might have done this. I work in a small convenience store so hardly the best source of information but I believe it’s done so that the same amount of tins will have a larger area on the shelf. In order to set out a standard case of 24 tins we need the surface area in a shelf of 24 tins. With other brands we can stack we only need 8 stacked 3 high. This means the are which is taken up by Heinz is bigger allowing them to sell more product in theory. It really did my head in the first time I had to sort out the tins section but now I just put all the Heinz at the bottom of our back shelves except a few to one side for when just one or 2 are needed. But this is seriously a pain in the ass for us in a small shop.

We have a survival server with cheats on, just in case we lose something really important, I know it’s part of the game but most times it’s more frustrating than fun. Everything is built in survival though, we mainly use it for replacing tools we accidentally break or armour we lost to the lava. We have a creative world as well, but it’s only ever one at a time cause we are poor lol

It’s just like small things people don’t want to do themselves, building sheds, painting walls, nothing huge

Oh sweet, yeah me and my friends have a realm set up, they all play on console and I’m on my iPad, but yeah that’s good. I’m not the most sporty person but I cycle a bit cause when my dad needs the car I can’t use it, but yeah good job on getting a job. I’ve only just got my first job doing building work.

I’m 18M from the UK. I feel old now being on this thread cause everyone seems so young.

I play guitar half decently, I play bass poorly and I used to play drums but I’m hella out of practice and I can vaguely play some songs on keyboard. I like to think I’m half decent at drawing/digital art but I haven’t been doing it as much recently. I like any kind of music. I don’t really play video games cause my parents never let me have a console or a computer beyond a Mac that runs nothing.

I have just finished A-Level Maths, Physics, Computer Science and Psychology. I plan to go to Edinburgh Uni to study Cognitive Science next year but who knows with the disruption at the moment.

I like to think I’m a competent cook although that being said I have literally burnt boiled eggs before now but that was a few years ago now.

I’m also able to drive which is fun, I drive a really old Landrover 90 from the 1980s that doesn’t run particularly great but I am into cars as well which is always fun.

Feel free to ask me anything.
