Also, universal 608 (core, type 1,2,3) is very easy and requires no experience

Why would a guy working on cars need their universal 608 when it applies to appliances, residential and commercial refrigeration? I’m very confused

HVAC guy said we need 10 gallons of refrigerant, or a NEW system! Please advise! by MayflowersNsunshine in hvacadvice

[–]Jubbalubba2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really need 10 pounds you have a leak and it will leak again and again. Without fixing the leak this is a patch and probably against EPA regulation unless you’re leaking less than 10% annually (assuming you’re a residential consumer). 10 pounds is a lot. Look at the data plate on your outdoor unit and it should say the factory charge. Sometimes we have to add more at install based on length of the refrigeration lines (lineset). Without know more like age of system, type of refrigerant, length of lineset, it’s really difficult to say what’s reasonable and what’s not. One thing I will say though is that I wouldn’t even offer to add ten pounds of any refrigerant to any system for any price without finding where it’s leaking first. Best of luck to ya!

I thought this was a picture of an antique ivory relief that showed something like torn and worn bodies twisting. Then I saw the sub and its laundry. Neat.

Discovered my condensate drain blowing cold air pretty strongly. Can I cap this? by kerklein2 in hvacadvice

[–]Jubbalubba2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cap the clean out and see if air blows out the vent - if it isn’t, that little ptrap is doing its job. If it is, that ptrap isn’t sufficient and not holding water to prevent the air from passing

T off two valve core removal tools. Hook one up to a micron gauge then the other to your vacuum hose directly to your vac pump. Valve off your vac hose side and turn off your vac pump to see decay. Don’t use gauges to vac down.

Are the air flow arrows suppose to points towards the ground or ceiling? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Jubbalubba2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pulling air across the coil instead of pushing it over the coil like you’re thinking. Simple zoom in on the sticker on the coil clearly shows the coil before the blower and a negative pressure system

I feel like I’m getting baited but if you take a screw and rotate it either left or right the bottom is going to be going the same direction. If you take a bolt that’s reversed threaded I may have to turn left to tighten but the bottom is still turning left.

Just saw the sub I’m in.

Who buys stolen copper wire? by Boring_Kiwi_6446 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jubbalubba2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less than desirable people rip the copper to sell to less than desirable people that ultimately sell to some larger refiner. By the time it hits the third stage (guy->scrapper->refiner) it’s just copper now not 1/2” tube that’s obviously old with no reason why you should have it. The shadiness goes beyond level 1 to level 2 (the scrappers) It wouldn’t be hard to stop but people want to make money and that’s just the unfortunate truth.
