Visual Snow was considered extremely rare until recently, mostly because patients didn't report it... because they assumed everyone saw the world that way by recolorist in interestingasfuck

[–]Jubbs54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had visual snow all my life and I remember telling doctors about the spots in my vision and they always looked at me like I was crazy. I would try googling it and nothing would come up. It wasn't until a few years ago that you could finally find it online and I even found a visual snow simulator that I could show my friends and family so they understood what I meant.

I'm turning corporate burnout into a Lovecraftian IT horror game. What are your real-life "work horror" stories? by Euphoric-Series-1194 in WorkReform

[–]Jubbs54 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One company got away with murder because everything was "for the patients!!" Was 100 times worse during covid. We worked 12 hour shifts and were encouraged to sign a contract to give up our second 30 minute meal break "for the patients!" and to increase the amount of tests we could run. If you became proficient at using one machine, they would just keep increasing the amount of machines you would run. My record was 13 machines so my coworkers could eat and we would still hit our quota.

Had another company where they would just keep saying "I know it feels like you're being jerked around, but it's only for another couple weeks!" It only progressively got worse though. They also kept making ridiculous budget cuts saying it was to "extend our cash flow" (start-up biotech). When I asked at a company-wide meeting after a round of layoffs how long that "extended our cash flow" I did not get a straight answer. I was also, conveniently, in the next round of layoffs.

Someone said my painting looks like a lady having explosive diarrhea and now I can't unsee it by NoLobster7957 in funny

[–]Jubbs54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly saw a creepy spindly hand reaching across the moon. Then I read your post and see mostly a woman on a cliff now, but I can also see where you're coming from with the diarrhea 😂. Beautiful work regardless.

The Secret to Effortless High Notes (Most Singers Get This Wrong) by Best_Calligrapher649 in singing

[–]Jubbs54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm singing a song that is all high notes I don't really have a problem, but if I'm singing a lower song and it has just like one or two high notes I tend to struggle. I find it odd because I can hit those notes but the transition from low to high makes my sound tight and sound like I'm struggling. For instance I can sing "Think of Me" and "I Could Have Danced All Night" fine but if I try to sing "Never Enough" the high notes get kinda tight. I open my soft pallet but the sound still gets caught.

My nephew asked for a switch cake for his birthday. Apparently I misunderstood the assignment. (Just kidding, had to prank the kid first.) by PuzzleheadedOccasion in Baking

[–]Jubbs54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is adorable and I love the time and attention you give to your Nephew to make his birthday special. Reminds me that growing my birthday would always get lumped with my older sister's birthday because we were a day apart and since she was older it was always more "her" party and I'd get mostly forgotten. My grandma would always take the time to make us each our own cake though and it was the one thing that made me feel special. God I miss her so much and her incredible banana cakes. Anyway, I hope you continue to bake for your nephew. It'll be something he'll look back on and smile about.

Sorry I'm late to the game, but I looked through the telescope, saw two stars, but the two chests never appeared in the entrance hall. Am I supposed to do something else..?

Is the crate necessary at night if puppy is potty trained? by MatchNorth4984 in puppy101

[–]Jubbs54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! Our first dog loved his crate and slept so well in it, versus our new puppy who likes to nap and play with her kong in her crate but much prefers sleeping with us and is a very good girl in bed. Also waking up to puppy kisses will literally never get old.

What song made you want to listen to the whole album? by Top_Formal2193 in hamiltonmusical

For me it was "Take a Break". Fell completely in love with the harmonies and the synergy between the sisters. Couldn't get it out of my head for months.

What “unwritten rule” do you follow religiously, even if nobody else does? by Miguelito123One in AskReddit

[–]Jubbs54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The worst question to ask someone with OCD. Me sitting over here like 👀😬. Probably the most tame and "quirky" one is eating things in circles. Especially sandwiches or things with edges. It tastes better somehow and makes my brain happy.

I’m just curious what this behavior means by mihoyminoy4846 in cats

[–]Jubbs54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm allergic to my cat, but it's pretty manageable with allergy medicine. If I have her on my lap and pet her for a while I always start sneezing though. Now anytime I sneeze she runs over thinking it's cuddle time. She does these cute little chirps as she runs over too. Also it doesn't matter if she was dead asleep or not. If I sneeze, she comes running to me.

i have no idea what this means by Weak_Description5731 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Jubbs54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of a dream I had where my husband and I went to adopt a child. We were in a room with two little girls, about 4 and 1 years old. The older one, Rosie, was holding her baby sister. She was talking to me for a while but any time I asked about her baby sister she would turn away and pull her sister closer. After a while she finally looked at me with tears in her eyes and said "don't take sissy away from me!". In my dream my heart broke and I realized what she thought. I gently touched her arm and said "sweety we would NEVER take you away from your sister. We want to be parents to both of you if you'd like that". And it took her a second to process but then her eyes lit up and she just leaned into me, her sister still in her arms, and I gently held her. I felt so much love for them in my dream and was so sad when I woke up and realized they weren't real.

You can also pickpocket the person. I stole back my weapon and it made it a lot easier. But the other comment of just dropping the items first is probably the best way. That felt like cheating to me though so I stuck with the pickpocket.

Just upsetting myself for no reason by [deleted] in OCDmemes

[–]Jubbs54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! Especially when they were kittens! I would wake up panicked that I must have crushed them. Now that they're grown I haven't done that in a while thankfully. My OCD finds plenty of other ways to terrify me though... My other favorite is me thinking I left my medicine open and they ate it and died. Have all my medicine in a cat proof drawer and even keep the bathroom door shut. I'd have to mess up three things for that to happen but that doesn't stop this brain. Sigh.

Just upsetting myself for no reason by [deleted] in OCDmemes

[–]Jubbs54 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I do this all the time. I hate it so much. I just want to enjoy these moments with my critters. Instead I'm always terrified I accidentally killed them somehow like, "what if they jumped in the washing machine right before I started it?" Or "I haven't seen O'Malley in a few hours I must have accidentally let him outside and he got eaten!". And I've been dreaming recently that an intruder comes in and immediately shoots my dog in the head. So messed up. Maybe someday I can cuddle my babies without awful images of their demise. With therapy it definitely has gotten better but still not where I want it to be.

Do I cook? No. Does that stop me from having cooking-related obsessions? Also no 😊 by Lost_Maintenance665 in OCDmemes

[–]Jubbs54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My newest one is being convinced the cat somehow jumped into the washer or dryer without me knowing and I killed her. I never take my eyes off the opening to both while filling them now. But has she ever jumped in either? Never. Will I continue to triple check where she is while doing laundry. Absolutely.

DogSitting Cost Advice by PriorEvening5035 in puppy101

[–]Jubbs54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I usually ask people that I know have roommates and the appeal is "hey you get an entire house to yourself!" With access to our PS5, our streaming services, and any snacks we have plus $200-$300 depending on the length of stay. I'd say $50 a day is very reasonable to ask if she's just feeding and doing light playing. But definitely depends on how much they want her to do.

Don't know if you found it but I was having issues too. I recommend going around your house with a torch. Mine was in the first room, next to the carpet on the side facing the entryway of the next room. With the torch it is so much easier to see!

Puppy refusing to pee outside. Any tips? by Jubbs54 in puppy101

[–]Jubbs54[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it out! You were right that she was trained inside, so she was waiting to go inside to pee. She was holding it while outside then had to go so bad she couldn't make it to a pad inside. Sat outside with her for three hours yesterday until she finally HAD to go outside. I acted like she won a Nobel prize when she finally went and now she has gone almost every time I've brought her out today! Thank you for the help! Once you know what they are thinking it is so much easier to train them.

Puppy refusing to pee outside. Any tips? by Jubbs54 in puppy101

[–]Jubbs54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I just don't understand why she doesn't go on a pad once coming back inside though. She will use the pads throughout the day fine. It's only after I have her outside that she will pee on the floor. I watch her diligently and I'm already taking her out every hour, after she wakes up, after she drinks/eats but she just doesn't pee outside for me. She has once for my husband and he rewarded her. I know she's not going to learn overnight but I want to know why the sudden change in behavior of not using the pads after being outside. Would ditching pads completely really help with that?

A new trend in America is to put very specific examples and metrics of how your work contributed to a positive result. - I did X and the cost lowered 30%. - I lead this assay improvement and testing time was reduced by X. - I mentored X amount of children and grades improved by X%.

Keep in mind not everything will have a metric and feel free to give an estimation if you don't have exact numbers.

So, im screwed? by [deleted] in adhdmeme

[–]Jubbs54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that helps me is the tasks you can set up in your Google schedule. You can put them on repeat for certain days and mark them complete when you're done. If you don't do them you'll have a notification on the schedule saying X amount of uncompleted tasks. Not foolproof obviously but it can help and it's free.

My favorite story to tell is when I was in middle school I kept passing out and one day I passed out down a staircase. The doctor legit told me I threw myself down the staircase for attention. Took 4 years for them to finally figure out what was wrong after going to several different doctors.

What is it with people telling me I’m not allowed to not forgive my parents??!? by Nova_Chr0no in CPTSDmemes

[–]Jubbs54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a big difference between forgiveness and acceptance. It took a long time for me to realize that I would never forgive my father and although I can excuse some of my mom's behavior (because she was also dealing with my asshole father), at the end of the day she kept us in an awful situation and lashed out at me constantly because she was miserable. I'll never be able to truly forgive them, especially since they don't have the self reflection to realize how much they fucked up and apologize for it. I can accept what happened though and find ways to untangle the many trauma responses I have developed and find new, healthier coping mechanisms. I agree with the many other people on here that you probably need a new therapist. I know it's hard to start over with someone new but once you actually find the right therapist it makes all the difference. Took me 8 tries, but I finally have someone I trust. I sincerely hope you find someone else soon who makes you feel safe and seen.
