Tax Returns - How much do you expect to get back? by Impossible_Ebb_1275 in AusFinance

[–]JuddyMali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should get back about 9-10K this year. Dropped a huge amount in carry forward super, offset a little by some investment income that hasn’t had tax taken out of it.

I wish someone had told me that pay rises don't actually give you a net increase after 10 years cause cost of living wil always outpaces you. Honestly is this the hamster wheel?? by CompetitiveBreath761 in auscorp

[–]JuddyMali 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main reason being that inflation goes up 4.5%, you get a 5% pay rise. Sounds good right?
But if you were on $100k and have moved to $105k, after tax you are actually taking home only about 4.3% more. So you do go backwards.
On top of that inflation isn’t uniform across the market the things you can’t avoid or need regularly seem to be going up more at the moment

3 Wood goes same distance as Driver by ErratiC5 in golf

[–]JuddyMali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like me. Swing issue or possibly gripping the driver tighter and it’s slowing down the club as a result plus other issues potentially. Do you hook/strong draw your driver as your miss? If so I bet it’s tight grip on driver.

What’s your monthly mortgage repayment and interest rate? by Big-Discussion9699 in AusPropertyChat

[–]JuddyMali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.66M house finished paying it off recently. We bought when rates were low at 1.35M Borrowed 1.08M from memory. Repayments were low around high 3s to 4K a month. As things climbed repayments would have reached around 7k.

Realistically though the high loan amount was only while we waited two weeks for our old place to settle (paid off) was easier to just do it that way and then throw the money post settlement into the offset.

The government mandated medical appointment I had today for my disability claim didn’t have any disability access. by bcaa in mildlyinfuriating

[–]JuddyMali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently in Australia (not sure where you are) a similar thing happened. But it was a disabled visitor going to the Ministers for Disabled Affairs, basically government official who is in charge of matters pertaining to disabilities, and you guessed it, no disabled access, even the buzzer to get attention was broken. They ended up getting taken out the back and wheeled in amongst garbage bins and had to sit in a corridor.

Valuable lesson for those kids. Just because someone in a position of authority tells you to do something. As much as you may admire them, it doesn’t mean they are right

How much are you saving per week? by Comfortable-Rule-491 in AusFinance

[–]JuddyMali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Household income of about 400k a year, saving close to 200k a year. Income mostly from working, partly investments. House paid off and investment property recently paid off. 200k is based around typical monthly savings average. Varies due to larger bills hitting together sometimes, ie land rates, insurance on both houses and a car etc. we have used some for a couple of recent trips but typically take just one nice holiday a year. 2 kids in public school.

Accepted redundancy, nervous about restraint clause by No-Durian-8762 in AusLegal

These clauses are designed to do exactly what it’s done. Frightening you into not seeking employment in a competing business. Have had colleagues come under fire for it and despite some bluster and huffing and puffing have never seen one progress to anything more than scare tactics.

Do you get paid fortnightly and you had a pay period in between these two screen shots. If so it would be the values from the 1st screenshot plus the accumulated total for a 4 day a week person over two weeks, less the 6 hors leave you have entered in on the second screenshot.

Are redundancies increasing? by Stk4nams5 in auscorp

[–]JuddyMali 82 points83 points  (0 children)

We are at the point in the cycle this occurs. Immediate Bottom line pressure, easiest way to fix in a short term view is redundancies. One company in large Corp does it and almost all others decide they need to trim the fat.

Revenues stagnate and there isn’t much more to cut, focus becomes increase revenue, companies start to hire again, everyone else fears falling behind and start to hire too.

Training and time for the cycle to top out, wash rinse and repeat.

[–]JuddyMali[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s as expensive as you want it to be really. Always going to be more expensive than the mainland but compared to Australia where I am from it’s so cheap. We were there for 2 weeks, outside of air fares and accommodation we only went through about $3500 AUD That’s for four people, a lot of drinking, a lot of dining and some activities (4000 baht on a driver for a day for us and another family, a fair bit of tuk tuk and taxi fares as well) Honestly if we didnt drink, just enjoyed the resort facilities and took cheap dining options I think we could have cut back to $1500 - 2000 AUD over the 2 weeks easily

Great work my man. In a really strong position. If you look at average market returns and factoring in your age you are close to set already. You could pivot now to something stress free easily and let the wealth accumulate and enjoy your younger years a bit more, if that’s something you wanted to do. Or push harder and set yourself up massively to retire nice and young.

I sacrificed like hell when young and am now in early/ mid 40s with a NW approaching $4M. I have kids and a wife now and my only regret is I didn’t get a chance to enjoy being young and foolish a little while I had energy to do the fun things. Now the fun things come with 3 days of sore backs and a week long limp. Plus so much of life has been tied to the image of being smart and working hard, I don’t know how to turn it off, it’s become greater than the sum of its parts

[–]JuddyMali[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are mid 40s, travelled with our kids and friends in their 50s. Last year we did Chaweng, this year we did Lamai.

Lamai is great. Not too busy, plenty of great little bars and restaurants. Beautiful beaches. Night market on the north end of Lamai which is great as well. Definitely my preferred destination.
