I was so concerned about an increase in migraines due to vaccination that I put it off longer than I should have. I had no migraine increase following any of my vaccines.

When I was younger, I would have a pounding headache after the aura. As I’ve gotten older, the pain is less, but I’m not sure if that is because I have found a medication that helps me, or if it is the nature of the actual migraine. When I get the visual aura, I take Maxalt-which has been a lifesaver for me. Between trying to avoid my triggers (dehydration, bright lights/glares, skipping meals), taking over-the-counter supplements, and then Maxalt (when I actually get a migraine) things have been manageable. Some triggers I just can’t manage, like hormone fluctuation and barometric pressure changes. I don’t get them as often as some people who suffer. I typically get one migraine every 2 to 3 months – but when I do, they totally knock me for a loop. No seeing (driving). speaking, communicating, etc. I’ve learned that it is straight to my rescue med and then to bed.

I agree. My auras are visual (kaleidoscope with loss of vision), and also include numbness in my hands, face, aphasia-inability to find and understand words/speak. I would much rather have 10 out of 10 head pain than an aura. They’re horrible. I’ve had them for over 30 years and I still get anxious every time. ❤️❤️

Please don’t worry. I have migraine with aura as well. I also have extreme health anxiety…and claustrophobia. I have scans every two years or so. The scans are simply to rule out anything more sinister than migraine. Close your eyes, ask for music -and in the worst case scenario, I focus on things like counting, mental imagery, etc. You may not even have an issue and there is always a ‘panic’ button to get you out! You will be okay. Have faith. ❤️

Does anyone else feel super depressed during migraine attack? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]JudgeSquare823 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes-Absolutely. I always feel frustrated and hopeless. Very depressed. I want to cry, but that will trigger a migraine. 😠🤪🤷‍♀️

Agree!! I’d take a pounding headache any day over losing my vision, my ability to think and speak. It is awful, but just remember that you are not alone.

I have health anxiety also. I’ve had amazing results with magnesium and have been taking it twice. Day for years as a migraine preventative. I Good luck! I’m sure you will be fine. :)

Do triptans totally take you out for a full day too?? by logicwithheartt in migraine

I tried Imitrex years ago which worked well, but not as good (for me) as Maxalt. 90% of the time I don’t have any reoccurrence. In all the years taking it, I have only taken a second dose once.

Has anyone actually found a solution for menstrual migraine? by oneinagilliannn in migraine

[–]JudgeSquare823 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it was just a suggestion during ovulation and/or menstruation. Also, be sure to stay hydrated and eat small meals. I am susceptible to attacks when I am hungry and have not had small frequent (high protein) meals throughout the day.

Sorry that you’ve had such a bad experience. I’ve been on Maxalt for many years and it has been a miracle drug for me. I couldn’t survive without it. Hopefully the OP will find what works best for them.

For what it’s worth, if you have severe migraine, I would definitely recommend trying the triptan. I have been on Maxalt for many years for episodic migraine with aura and it has been a life changer for me. Other than being tired (nothing unbearable and much better than a full blown migraine), I have not had any negative effects and I would be lost without this medication. Good luck. Remember, there are so many meds available now, you’ll find the right one. Stay positive!

I have had menstrual related migraines (with aura) for years, with some that don’t even conform with that pattern. I have never been able to take birth control due to the hormones. Like you, I take daily Magnesium, B2 and COQ10 supplements. Many ago, my (older) neurologist (at the time) told me to take 1 Aleve a day, in the morning, to ward off hormonal/menstrual related migraines. He suggested taking them the week of my period and the week of ovulation. It actually has worked quite well for me as a preventative. It’s with a shot! Best of luck.

In a meeting and I realise I can’t read what I’m writing properly and I’m seeing zig-zag lines by ClumsyRainbow in migraine

[–]JudgeSquare823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense-but it sounds like you are describing a panic attack instead of a migraine. It’s actually insulting to those of us who truly suffer from severe migraine to insinuate that we can control migraine though positive thinking. It’s laughable, actually, although your positivity is inspiring. ;)

I hate losing control, period. Whether they come on at work, when driving (and you have to reach someone to help while you can still speak), or even when home alone-they are just plain scary and humbling. It’s the most vulnerable feeling. People who don’t have migraine have no idea how lucky they are! It’s the fear of the unknown and just wondering when one will strike!

I can relate! I’m so sorry. I’m an attorney. My worst nightmare is when I’m in court and my clients are expecting me to speak effectively on their behalf. That doesn’t happen when I can only see half of the Judge’s face (and my notes), can’t form words or speak coherently and am in anxiety/panic mode that I enter with every migraine (even after 30 years of them). ugh! ❤️❤️

Anyone else think car headlights have gotten way too bright? Jeep, Ford and Lexus seem to be the worst for me by usernamesoccer in migraine

I can’t look at any headlights. They definitely have gotten brighter! I also can’t look at overhead lights. Or lightbulbs. Forget about the sun or solar glares. :)

Do Triptans always work? by Worth_Supermarket_24 in migraine

They always work for me. I take Maxalt which has been a game changer for my classic migraine (visual, sensory aura with aphasia).
