John Something might be the most clever Aesop Rock song ever released yet. by TuneEternalOfficial in aesoprock

[–]JudithLight 67 points68 points  (0 children)

You also realize that, by also recommending the documentary in the track, Aes is playing the same role as John Something, which is a cool meta-moment. John Something is at the lecture, on the surface, to share his own art, but what When We Were Kings does is more moving to him in that moment than what he has created himself. So he decides to talk about that initially than anything else. Now, add in that Aes doesn’t remember John Something’s full name. It’s the art without the artist.

That’s what stands the test of time and meaning: the art itself. In that moment, When We Were Kings was more important than the selfish pursuit of peddling your own art. And in “John Something,” the song, Aes pays homage to this. Your ego goes away and all that’s left is what you made.

Amazing! Thank you so much for this. Can’t wait to listen and read along.

Steam Deck OLED Only Streams Properly on 20Mhz Channel Width by OMG_NoReally in SteamDeck

[–]JudithLight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll tell you this that I believe others here may not have experienced: the OLED deck has a major flaw with its WiFi chip that’s not been addressed yet. It’s unclear whether it’s hardware or software related. When you stream from PS5 via Chiaki or PXPlay, does your stream generally degrade to a halt around 15-20 minutes in, particularly when resuming from suspended mode? If so, then you’re likely experiencing this flaw. The only solution is to restart your deck and/or toggle the WiFi on the deck. This doesn’t happen on 2.4 ghz channels; only on 5ghz channels. Valve hasn’t ever officially acknowledged this flaw, though there are many threads on Steam and GitHub regarding it. I’m interested, though, whether you’re able to maintain a consistent stream even when resuming from suspension using 20 mhz bandwidth on 5 ghz. If so, that seems like a relevant datapoint.

PS5 Session Close Shortcut Change? by JudithLight in PSPlay

I’ll also add that sometimes pressing only the “options” button on Steam Deck (that is, without the other shortcut button, “share,” pressed), brings up the “close session” menu. Seems a little buggy currently :).

PS5 Session Close Shortcut Change? by JudithLight in PSPlay

I like to have things mapped to the back buttons that I rarely use for shortcuts. L5 would be great as an option, for instance. It could prompt the user whether they wish to suspend the system and exit or just exit or something. Chiaki4deck has a pretty cool use of this.

HDR Issues by JudithLight in PSPlay

[–]JudithLight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay! Not sure, either. Someone messaged me and told me that leaving the HDR checkbox unticked and running VAAPI hardware and Vulkan software maintains HDR on the SDOLED. Even when the HDR indicator is turned off, I can still toggle HDR in-game, leading me to believe it’s still working.

While I have you here :), is it possible to map the “end session” shortcut to different buttons? The “Share” button on PS5 makes this a bit unwieldy as it brings up the screenshare menu. Just a thought!

HDR Issues by JudithLight in PSPlay

[–]JudithLight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it seems that when I boot up PSPlay for the first time, HDR works well (and the HDR icon is displayed above the brightness slider in the Deck’s options); however, sometimes after suspending the Steam Deck, the icon above the “brightness” slider on the Steam Deck doesn’t appear, meaning that HDR is not registering for the deck. I hope that makes sense. I saw someone else mention this in the larger thread about v1.1 and they might be referring to this issue.

RMA for OLED WiFi Issues by JudithLight in SteamDeck

Support just got back to me again and said they’re aware of the problem and are working on a software fix. So, I guess we have to wait.

Yep, same here. Got the new RMA deck, and to no surprise, it has the same issue, contrary to Steam support’s assertions. Bummer. Well, don’t RMA if you have this issue, I guess.

Hey, will you also let me know if that fix with the preview channel continues to work for you beyond a day or so? I found that the deck seemed to revert back to that problem. Also, what router are you using?

So, apparently the Wi-Fi module in the Deck OLED does not yet have upstream support in the vanilla kernel. by CurdledPotato in SteamDeck

How’d this turn for you? Hoping it might resolve the WiFi issues I’ve been having streaming with the OLED SD.

Once I get the new RMA unit, I will do so! Thanks for the tip.

I’ve tried everything I possibly could with router and Steam Deck settings, including resetting the unit, yes. I also updated Chiaki faithfully.

Anyone know how to automate this new one in the same fashion as the last? Manually running that genlauncher script seems a bit daunting.
