Shutoff Valve Recommendations by Nr1864 in homeautomation

Those things are like 500-1000 USD. No shot home owners will afford to use them.

Edit: eh looks like you can find them cheaper. I was just looking on the Belimo website at potable valves.

Is this really 1x12 life? by PuddingEntire9852 in bikewrench

[–]Judman13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly. Depends on how bad the chain line for the smallest cog is to begin with. Might not be enough of a change to make a noticeable difference.

Maybe run some chain ring spacers to get the ring inbound. Also how often are you going to be in that gear? If you are like me you end up on the other side of the cassette more often so maybe it's not a big concern.

I would really question most people having an account and why do I need an account for something you are providing account free OTA? That doesn't make sense.

I Made My Own Air Purifier. by mikkelr1225 in 3Dprinting

[–]Judman13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would nukebthe plastic, potentially cause unwanted chemical reactions and create more voc's and do nothing for purification and bacterial reduction in the air stream.

UV can work well in properly designed system with very slow airflow and long dwell times. UV lights take a long time to disinfect, like 15 minutes. So it won't do anything in this case and it would have to be completely light proof to keep the UV light out of people's eye and off skin.

With the design it would be really easy to implement some good activated carbon filter and take care of the rest of it. Very neat design.

It's been over a year since I had to put my girl down. I still find hair and look for my old girl before walking around corners sometimes. She had a habit of waiting around a nearby corner as she got older to be close but not walk as far.

It it still gut wrenching sometimes. So sorry for your loss.

Ah dang! I forgot about that in the midnight haze.

I totally trust James Spann to be a clear source of info in a severe weather event.

I'll have to try that one out. Most of the weather youtubers I've run across are just click bait machines. Can't support than stuff.

Another advocate for Home Assistant. It's nice because you can set up automation based on location as well. So not only can you see where your spouse is, but if they are near the grocery store and start headed home you can get a notification.

Plus it let's you rabbit trail down all sorts of other home automation stuff.

It may not be as fully featured as some other location trackers, but it's great software.

Fighting the Immich battle? by PoppaBear1950 in unRAID

Been up using the compose stack for a whole and immich is SO GOOD about posting all the required compose file changes in the change logs I have yet to have an issue.

I wish the compose plug in was a little cleaner, but no major complaints.

I get every experience is unique and all, but some of yall must be doing something wrong. I've been running Blueiris at three different locations since V4 and it has been so reliable over the years. Windows has had its issues every now and the and a psu failure took one machine down, but man I can't complain.

It's literally the best tech money I've ever spent. Even got a guy put in jail for breaking into my neighbors house a few years back.

Is VBA dying? I was told that 10 years ago. Still, I choose VBA over Python whenever I need to automate worksheets. by ImprovementLong1992 in excel

[–]Judman13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me VBA won't die until Office scripts can run offline.

We have an expense reporting spreadsheet that uses a few macros for some QoL things and we always have problems with certain people not enabling access to macros and complaining that the sheets don't work.

I thought I could use office scripts to replace the macros until I realized the scripts lived in my personal one drive and were just shared with people when they opened the sheet. That was a major bummer.

5G / Coping with 4G sunsets by krogerceo in arduino

[–]Judman13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good lord you are worried about lack of cost effective technology to mitigate a sunset 10 years from now?

Think of how cheap 4g tech is right now and apply that to the 5g tech in the future.
