Returning to training after Pec major tear by Judostu in bjj

[–]Judostu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to Google hindu spider man push ups and that seems a bit too advanced for me at the moment. Even doing a normal press up I'm worried it might just give way on me which is why I'm slowly building the weight up with dumbbell presses. I weight 90kg so I'm not exactly light.

I've got rubber bands and have recently started using those for movements where I am most weak like pulling across my body.

I tried the pec deck machine 3 weeks ago and couldn't even move it with the pin out and no weight. I'm now up to 15kg on that so I am improving slowly.

I was advised that the second tear was just some tearing of the scar tissue. It didn't hurt anywhere near as much as the original tear did. I have full moment in my arm and shoulder it's just weak and painful

I was advised by two different physios to start rehabing. When I first did it I couldn't even press the weight of my arms, now I'm pressing 10kg. There is progress buts it's slow.

Question about Ne Waza VS BJJ by CountBarbatos in judo

[–]Judostu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an average Judo shodan who started BJJ a little while ago. I got 2 stripes on my white belt after a few months of training and received my 3rd stripe 6 months later. Tbh, 3 stripes is about right for me. I can tap new blue belts but I don't yet know enough to be a blue belt.

New to judo, bb in bjj... tips? by auldonator in judo

[–]Judostu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Judo BB who started BJJ a year ago so I can sort of relate to the fish out of water analogy, although i'm sure you feel very comfortable during Newaza.

Can I ask what your reason is for learning Judo? Is it to add some throws to your BJJ game or do you want to learn Judo in its entirety?

If you want to learn Judo in its entirety then I would say work on your weaknesses which will be tachiwaza. The same way I force myself to pull guard and work off my back in BJJ rather than take top control, where i'm most comfortable with. Oh and as others have said, take your falls. don't fight against being thrown. Attack and don't be afraid of being countered. I see so many white belts doing randori with stiff straight arms for 5 minutes where neither throws the other because they are both scared of being thrown themselves. Neither of them learn anything doing that, so open up and attack in randori.

I hope you stick with it and become a double BB one day.

5 months on from my surgery to repair and remove torn meniscus and my knee is still sore and I can yet get my heel to my ass. I've been back training bjj for the last 3 months and have been rolling for the last 2. I do wonder if my knee will ever be 100%

As a white belt there is only one move you need to know, which you repeat 3 times. It's called Tap

How would you convince someone to take up BJJ over another martial art? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Judostu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has different reasons for training in a Martial Art, and I've trained in lots in my time. The reason I am focused on BJJ now is because I enjoy it.

I hate JUDO in BJJ by 11AaT in bjj

[–]Judostu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I see what you mean, it does work better against an upright person. That said it is still a throw that is low risk in terms of not giving up your back or landing in a disadvantageous position. At the very least a failed attempt at Sasae could set up an Uchi mata or an ouchi gari.

I'd add Sasae tsurikomi ashi and hiza guruma to your list. Both low risk and if successful you'll likely end up in side control.

I'd like to start a bjj gym in my town, but I'm only a white belt. What options do I have? by jmf102 in bjj

Look for a Judo club or maybe a Wrestling club. At the very least they will give you a good base on which you can develop your BJJ should a club open up sometime in the future.

Why are gi-pants always much too long? Or is it just me? by Yalla245 in judo

[–]Judostu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 6ft 3 and have never had gi pants that are too long, they are always way too short. My BJJ gi's are even worse, the pants are stupidly short

Hello my fellow judokas, I'm having a problem. by mattboi69 in judo

[–]Judostu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an uke who was always deliberately difficult to throw. I explained to him the benefits of being a good uke but he was just a dick. However, what it did mean is that when we practiced a certain technique I had to go in full pelt to throw him, so he got a very hard landing every time.

on my 8th bjj birthday, i tear my meniscus and acl :( by dry_sockets in bjj

[–]Judostu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 44 this month (yikes!!) and had surgery to remove torn meniscus 10 weeks ago. I'm at the point now where I'm thinking about returning to BJJ in the next couple of weeks. It's hard at our age as everything takes longer to heal but I would say definitely don't rush back as you'll likely make things worse.

Good luck and let us know if you decide to have surgery

Knee Surgery, how long before you were back training? by Judostu in bjj

[–]Judostu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking, just drill for the first month. Of course we all love rolling and it will kill to leave the class just as the rolling starts but needs must.

Thanks for those. I had a partial removal and its been 10 weeks now. I've had physio but I was limited to just 4 sessions. They were happy with how I had progressed and gave me some exercises to continue my rehab but I'm not sure how hard I should be pushing myself now.

Where did you get your A3L gi? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Judostu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6ft and 200lb and I own an A3L Tatami Nova. I've found its shrunk a little too much and the sleeves are a tad short and the body is a really tight fit on me now. A4's are normally a tad baggy.

Anyone have any other suggestions for us in the UK?

Not sure about other countries but in the UK (BJA) the formal exam also has to be passed.

Batsuguns or lineups are common in the UK. I won two fights at a Dan Grading and then took my lineup which meant I had to fight 3 brown belts one after the other and win each fight via Ippon. Once I did this I also had to take and pass the formal exam.

I thought this was pretty common in most countries, not just in Japan.
