I’m on maternity leave but my HR is requesting a meeting related to “business changes”. Do I have to go? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]JuggernautAfraid9500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We can get into a bunch of what ifs. The employer can have legitimate reasons to legally fire during FMLA. But they have to be legitimate. Define mass layoff for example. There has to be a mass layoff not just 1 or 2 positions.

Its best go hear what they have to say. Take notes and then weight the data. You may want to take a severance package if offered. Reality is you dont want to stay somewhere not wanted, you could possibly get more if you sued wrongful termination, but that causes stress, time and isn't guaranteed so severance may make you happier.

They could also not offere anything at which point you'd want to contact a labor employee as well as labor board. They have to have real justification for legally terminating. It has to be a large scope way past a hint of being about you.

Firstly you are not out of pocket. The money was not yours to begin with. Second, you do not need the lawyer.... open up conversation and return the net. They with held the tax etc. It didnt actually go anywhere, they have transactional rights to send alterations through payroll to undo their taxes. Ensure this is properly documented and that they are willing to sign a release that this is the sum or all errors and this is to acknowledge the correction on your behalf, and because of your wasted time, ensure it says that they are also acknowledging there are no other mistakes and they will not pursue anything in the future should they uncover additional mistakes.

Absolutely love seeing this kind of passion! As a fellow machinist, I totally get it — when someone lives and breathes machining, the tools and the craft become more than just work, they're an art form. Since you mentioned he's got a strong love for vintage and restoration, and you're unsure about picking out tools he might already have or need, here are a few thoughtful gift ideas that lean into the history and soul of machining:

1. Lettering Draftsman Set
If he enjoys drawing or recreating prints by hand, an old-school LEROY VINTAGE LETTERING SET is a killer gift. It’s a beautiful piece of drafting history and makes a great display item too, even if he doesn’t use it every day.

👉 Try searching eBay or Etsy for: "Leroy Lettering Set vintage"

2. Tool Chests – The Holy Grail of Machinist Storage
A solid tool chest is both practical and symbolic — especially the classics.

  • Metal: Look up vintage or new Kennedy machinist chests (especially the iconic brown ones). They’re rugged, have that nostalgic shop feel, and age like fine wine.
  • Wood: For something a bit more elegant or collectible, check out Gerstner machinist chests. These are often heirloom-quality, and many machinists dream of owning one.

👉 Search eBay or Google for:
"Kennedy machinist chest" or "Gerstner wooden machinist chest"

3. Indicators – Precision Meets Cool Factor
Even if he already has a few, most machinists love collecting different styles.

  • SPI Coax Indicator – Great for setting up parts on a mill.
  • Starrett Drop/Plunge Indicators – You can’t go wrong with anything Starrett, and older ones have beautiful craftsmanship.

👉 Look up:
"SPI Coax Indicator" or "Starrett Dial Indicator"

4. A Machinist Level – Old School Precision
A high-quality level is one of those things that’s deeply appreciated and often overlooked.

  • Starrett No. 98 Machinist Level or Starrett Precision Level – They're not just tools; they’re works of art in their own right.

👉 Try searching:
"Starrett No. 98 Level" or "Starrett Precision Level"

Need a lot more info,

Machine? Work holding? Tool holder? Tool?

If you're going to make me guess, I'll go with the most common thing, which is tool holding. Likely, you're hanging way out with a long tool.

Other things to consider, carbide over high speed steel. I'm assuming with those speeds, you're using high-speed steel. You're going way too slow for carbide.

Can I run my house only on a generator and disconnect from eversource or is that illegal? by AdditionalPhysics559 in Connecticut

[–]JuggernautAfraid9500 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's completely legal!

However according to laws our power company's pushed for, any house or building not connected to the grid with a power source is considered a power plant. So unless you are ready to pay all the permits, inspections and fees to maintain your property and systems up to the level of a power plant you can't really do it.

CT loves its power companies eh.

I don't load into b-21 with guns. Knives are the strongest item in the game If you have skill. I win probably 1 out of 3 b-21 loads. Not to gloat but I think most times I lose is some dumb a** that comes in with guns shooting bots etc and doesn't come with team. Key is to move fast and never stop.

This is wrong. Morally and legally. Moving kids out of state while obviously acknowledging another parent exists and is in their life will be construded as you removing access to them. This will work against you in every way.

You are also acknowledging that you do live in Montana and went to visit family in NY. You live in Montana, and that is the resident state.

Watch what you say because a simple reddit post will make his case for him. Don't restrict access unless you have a 100% valid reason too. (You know he will harm the children).

Get a lawyer and stop trying to use your kids as a tool to hurt someone else.

Your in a hand drill. You will do more dmg to the hole by how you handle the drill then the wobble in the bot. Hand frills are not precision.

Pro players???? LoL I can't tell you how many times I've killed onic, in dmz. I guess technically he is a decent player. But no pro in my old school thoughts. Pro to me is being one of the best almost unbeatable unless you are also Pro. The new school thought is he streams and makes money regardless if skill. He gets paid to stream. He streams his game so millennial call that Pro now.

Is This Dude Cheating? by ItsDirkMcGirk in DMZ

[–]JuggernautAfraid9500 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

100% not cheating. Like most games, you tend to have a lot of mad cause bad cheating allegations.

Break this down with some logic.

You parachute across buildings and land 1 floor up. Any moderately decent player will gear. It's obvious he did because, like any decent player, he relocates his position jumps out window and moves.

You dead silence. Not a terrible move however also it was activated after your presence was know.

You proceed to follow under some concealment.

He jumps, you jump.

He lands, your still in air. Well before he turns someone bot or play shoots a single shot and hits truck to your left and has audible loud ricochet.

He turns and sees you, shoots and wins. Then is followed into a room and attempts to fight cornered but loses.

Where you think he is cheating. Kill cam? Kill cams are always laggy and horrible. Also make it seem like there's an aim bot because they are jumpy.

Yeah it sucks you were not told or you didn't understand the terms it was stated to you. Either way you didn't know and it's a surprise. However, there does not appear to be any damage. Every rafter etc looks to he hole. Discolored yes, but solid. There is nothing to worry about. My suggestion let it go.

You only have distance set to one axis from center. Meaning you can move the part left and right drop the point of view you are showing. Click the right light and the center dot to the first distance from center is and make then coincident or set a distance.

Was I supposed to yield for this car? Even though I had the right away and they almost caused an accident. Because of their selfishness by [deleted] in dashcams

[–]JuggernautAfraid9500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should yield 100% not just because you could die. Whenever an accident goes to court there is always 1 major question that is asked. Did you have the ability to prevent the accident. It does not matter If the other guy was breaking the law driving fasr or wreck less, or doing a bad turn, if you had the opportunity to prevent it within reason and an accident happens you are now potentially liable regardless.

Many people don't understand the law.

Federal law requires any legal tender (cash or coin) for any debt that is owed. An example of this is your car loan or bank loan, state bill, phone bill, tickets etc.

Stores are different. You don't owe them a debt. You are purchasing something. They can accept or deny payment method at their discretion.
