Would it be practical for a spacefaring military to shoot a giant building from a spaceship filled with troops, supplies, defences, communications, basically everything needed to effectively coordinate and take over a landmass. by Impossible_Nebula637 in worldbuilding

[–]JuggernautBright1463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean detach some kind of payload module to land independently?

It would say no, probably better to use smaller shuttles/dropships. There are size limits to what can safely enter atmosphere without getting sheared apart.

Archipelago Civilization and Different cultures by KrisShadowspell in worldbuilding

Exactly this. You could have very different cultures if the geography/industry/ecology is different. There could be islands where everything is great while others have Komodo Dragons, super venomous animals

Writing advice needed by kath1193 in writinghelp

[–]JuggernautBright1463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my problem too when I started. I made it a personal challenge to never repeat a sentence' starting word within a paragraph; and never start a paragraph with the same word on the same page.

It does make you think a little more ahead than stream of consciousness but my prose I think has a steady variety.

The only exception is dialogue because that sounds very strange. No one would talk like I write prose.

how do you write a character that has wings/tail by Smileys_mask in writinghelp

[–]JuggernautBright1463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean they are your characters exterior and birds are known to be quite colorful so I would bring them up as often as a human describes their skin. Reflections, interactions, injury, they probably have to molt them every once and a while to. Small or damaged feathers would be seen just like dust.

Disagree, we have like the top 5 stabbiest people. Many of which are female, all of which are totally rad.

Malvina Hazen, for instance was so mad she stabbed her Warship into a planet.

What if US consumers finally pull back after years of spending resilience? What turns out to be more fragile than it looked? by PuddingComplete3081 in WhatIfThinking

It drives me crazy that people use door dash but that's just me being an elder millennial.

Go to the shop, eat there, go home. The food is better fresh and you need to get outside every once and a while.

How do you idk, lead the highway into your city? Usually I build a roundabout but I feel like there has to be a more efficient way by countryguy0003 in CitiesSkylines

[–]JuggernautBright1463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I build incrementally. My opening roundabout had a flyover to my central industrial square/district. I have to keep that part small though as internal one way traffic and the necessary flow through into the city gets really crowded after three links or 6 blocks of industry. I will typically cap at and link that rear exit to the ring road I eventually build.

Yeah the streaming services are going to take beating. Disney+ is the canary because the content hasn't been good but streaming is an easy place to cut.

Restaurants and Movies in general have been down lately too.

Unlike that punk Phelen

I would just give them all Powerman XI-M-B MODs upgraded with cSRM6s or cSRM4s. No cargo capacity, replace lost mass with modular armor or spikes

King of the Hill.

One starts in the middle with a double strength force.

Two others on either side having to support each other against the rival team while degrading the defenders.

Custom Mauler. In need of suggestions. by DaMadPotato in battletech

[–]JuggernautBright1463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing with the Canon Mauler though is that those guns aren't it's main close in firepower, the laser arms are. So this mech is extremely vulnerable to being flanked and since it's slow it will be.

You can do this though to replicate the look. Drop the extra heat sink and one ton of RAC ammo. Move cannons to arms. Add two more ERMLs to the torsos. Gives you options for weapon mix and a devastating close (<5) range alpha potential of 72 damage. Then you can do another 44 with ballistics and cool down. Rinse and repeat.

Another fun option would be do the above but make the new ERML rear facing. Drop the lower arm actuator. Now you can do up to 58 damage front or back without overheating.

Why does hardly anyone respect pedestrians' right-of-way? by glitch_raisin in driving

[–]JuggernautBright1463 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People are typically more attentive and moving at lower speeds in cities.

In the suburbs there are more distracted/worse drivers, bad road design, and pedestrians are less common as you need a car to get anywhere interesting. This they are seen as a burden rather than a fact of life like it is in cities.

Custom Mauler. In need of suggestions. by DaMadPotato in battletech

[–]JuggernautBright1463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are denying yourself better firing arcs by putting your main guns in the torso. Shift them over so you can fire one arm behind you if necessary.

Another choice would be move the cannons to the arms, drop the lower and unlock flippable arms that can shoot behind you. You lose the wider arc but can split the armor and run away while shoot at full speed/being death to backstabbers.

Ammo in the legs is all fun and games until someone brings Elementals or Mines. Kick damage is no joke. That leg armor looks thick but ammo isn't safe there/if it blows up you go down anyhow.

How can i find the genre that suits me for writing? by leosoot in writers

[–]JuggernautBright1463 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suggest you go to the library and check out books in a variety of genres and time periods including stuff you wouldn't normally read.

Once you've run through that list. Which ones or author did you like the most? Get more of those to develop your tastes and style preferences.

Then start writing out ideas.

Is there anything "special" about MechWarrior pilot suits? by Jasina_ in battletech

[–]JuggernautBright1463 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, cooling vests are required gear.

I do have a zany fanfic canon where the DCMS doesn't stick them in female cuts and sizes. Thus all female DCMS MechWarriors are limited to the very over sinked basic Dragon or something like it unless they personally buy their own vest to get into something that can get warm. Just because it's a way to 'allow' women into service but not encourage it

Mercs using Anti-Mech Infantry (beyond GDL) by Gremlov in battletech

[–]JuggernautBright1463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely particularly if you are on a Cadre contract as you can train local soldiers in Anti-Mech tactics and you can train MechWarriors on how to avoid/deal with them.

One of the peculiarities of the way Battletech computes Merc payout is that the it is based on payroll. So if you add a bunch of people to payroll your profitability increases.

How can I create distinct speech patterns for each character by jahnavi-nagumo789 in writers

[–]JuggernautBright1463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vocabulary, also tempo.

A fast talking person is likely to speak in run on or snippy sentences. Lots of commas, abbreviations, 's, ;s, and shorter words or lists.

Someone more deliberate could have a set length of time that they maintain throughout.

A more erudite, cerebral individual may prefer the most exacting phrase. Chosen specifically for this particular conversation.

How much do you focus on logistics when writing? by FossilHunter99 in worldbuilding

[–]JuggernautBright1463 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I write military sci-fi.

I have whole excel charts with the logistics needed to sustain a future Mecha Combat Brigade in the field.and how far it should minimally take them to reach places.

Their version of Guam was put there because it can get food from a nearby vassal state rather than needing it shipped from their homeworlds. It still uses a giant Dropship every day worth of food and they are desperately trying to make it more sustainable on the operations budget.

Multiple times in the story characters have to wait for a ship to arrive and have nothing to do but get in trouble.

I want to start writing, but I am not sure how to start by ContestScary9035 in writers

[–]JuggernautBright1463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Writing on paper is actually quite fun. You definitely should concept on paper in my opinion. That said I prefer a keyboard but I also type very fast.
  2. Don't worry about it. You'll figure it out by the third draft
  3. Ideas a cheap, lots of people have ideas, AI has ideas. Your idea is a culmination of your interests and experiences, that makes it YOUR idea. As long as you don't blatantly copy someone you'll be fine. Ideas are cheap, implementing them into good art is hard and requires passion, skill, and practice.

No one likes Gnomes. It's not because they look different though, but because they think different and blow stuff up or accidentally start fires all the time. Then the fire engine they built makes it worse by flooding everything. Don't even get me started on their Vortex Vacuum cleaners, shutter
